To the guys who actually believe box mapping discussion should be banned, a few facts:

    1. You'll be only closing your eyes. Anyone could open a thread about it anywhere else. I'd open a reddit, invite the most active members here and make it private, and guess what? Box mapping would still exist. Box cheating would still exist (re-sealed packs, algorithm-calculated packs, so on and so forth). The only consequences would be you'll be unable to see the data and crunch it by yourselves to at least raise awareness among your peers and make yourselves scam-proof.

    2. If you notice someone is abusing the technique and scamming customers, report it to Wizards. There's no larger tool against "rogue stores" than this: the very possibility of going out of business or not being able to sell M:tG anymore puts a strain on any store-owner, and most of them will not risk themselves over the possibility of predicting a few boxes.

    3. Injecting false data is time-consuming for both of us, and nothing but a nuisance (since it would be easily comparable to data we already know it is verifiable). If you have an entire box worth of data, why don't you let us help? Do whatever with the packs left as long as it is fair: invite your friends to have a draft night, gift them to a newbie, teach someone to play! If you don't have data and you're making the whole box up, your data will shine like Mirrodin's five suns in the sky, easily figured out and discardable.

    4. If you have been paying at least attention to the most recent map techniques, WotC has been changing his randomization methods regularly since Mirrodin to prevent abuse. Ultimately, this is a good thing: if they ever come up with an unsolvable riddle, bam! Instant fairness for all of us, so you can go a buy a few packs anywhere with no issues. Unless the stores re-seals the packs… oh, well.

TL; DR: Go ahead, rally against mapping. Don't act surprised when you end up seeing something like mtgmap.com, and most of us still trying to crack the code…

    Position in the case unknown.

It had 2 displaced rows, one in each half (3 and 9) but otherwise it was a straightforward box.

The pattern ended up being (as per Vinzito's method) 3, 1, 4, 2, 5 (Zegana, Boros, Gruul, Orzhov, Dimir).

    (3) High Priest of Penance
    (4) Aurelia, the Warleader
    (5) Nightveil Specter
    (1) Watery Grave (Knightwatch)
    (2) Lazav, Dimir Mastermind (Experiment One)

To the headmasters of this project (SynthB, Vinzito):

Shouldn't be easier for all of us to use the collector number instead of the card name when posting the boxes? It certainly makes data input and possibly data process faster.

Also, what will it happen once we have solved this expansion? I understand you Vinzito wrote an App for iOS, but what about non-Apple users? Will someone post the "solved map" for us mere mortals to use? Windows app? Mac app? Android app?

I'll be posting 4 boxes of data as soon as I finish opening them, which should be fairly soon (using Vinzito's method of row fixing).

Okay, I have seen this "intervening if clause" used several times. Can you please link to the rules that mention said clause?

So this and Entreat the Angels is good?

If X>3 you'll only put 3 counters on it and draw 3 cards, it does not matter how much do you pay for X. (Evolve is a conditional ability, if the conditions for putting it onto the stack are not met on resolution, the triggers will be removed).

Due to Evolve's wording, the Reanimangel combo will not be able to abuse it since it is a conditional triggered ability, which means it will check for the legality of the trigger twice: while entering the stack, and on resolution. At any of those times, if the [if] clause is not met, the ability will be removed from the stack.

    I. E. You cast Angel of Glory's Rise, and it's triggered ability goes to the stack. In your graveyard you have a Fiend Hunter, two Precint Captain, one Riders of Gavony, one Fathom Mage and one Borderland Ranger.

The six creatures enter the battlefield at the same time. The Evolve triggered ability on Fathom Mage triggers 5 times, twice for the Captains and one for Riders of Gavony and Borderland Ranger, respectively, plus one for the Fiend Hunter. When you start resolving the triggers, you can only put two +1/+1 counters on the GTC rare, and it even depends on how do you send those triggers to the stack.

You'll need to put those triggers on highest-to-lowest-power/toughness order: first the Riders' one, then Fiend Hunter, then the Ranger and both Precint. The last one (Precint's) will resolve, putting one counter on Fathom Mage and triggering its second ability. Once you draw, the next two triggers (Ranger's and the second Precint) will do nothing as now, Fathom Mage has the same power as both. Then, the next trigger (Hunter's) will resolve, putting a second +1/+1 counter and netting you a second card. The last trigger (Riders') won't resolve since now the creature is a 3/3.

The card is a Johnny one, with some potential in limited but practically useless (given its current context) on Constructed Standard.

EDIT: For clarity and correctness. Reference for this is the 603.4 rule in the Comprehensive Rules.

Pretty sure you need vigilance to make this work in some way.

EtI's deck should be fairly easy to make, just ramp into Omnisicience, cast Laboratory Maniac, then Thought Scour (targeting you) for the win.

    Basically, a Simic deck.

  • posted a message on Can the populate effect be countered by removing the token to be copied?
There are a couple of points worth bringing to attention here:

    - A player cannot destroy any of your tokens between the first part of the spell resolves and the populate.
    I. E. At the end of her opponent's turn, Melinda casts Eyes in the Skies with no creature tokens in the board. Her opponent cannot destroy the token before the populate resolves, but after it comes into play, because there's no way to interrupt any kind of effect during resolution. Not even "game-checks" resolve there, the game waits till an action is completed to check for state-based effects.

    - Since you choose which token to Populate only during resolution, the only way an opponent can make sure you won't copy anything is either by:

    a) Removing from the game all targets of the populating spell/effect.
    I. E. Charles attacks with a Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius to Melinda. After attack-declaration, Melinda casts Trostani's Judgement, targeting Niv-Mizzet, in response. Melinda has a 4/4 Slime token and two 1/1 Bird tokens in play at this time. Charles casts Dramatic Rescue, targeting Niv-Mizzet, in response to Melinda's white spell. Neither player does anything after that, and Dramatic Rescue resolves, making Trostani's Judgement fizzle. Niv-Mizzet ends in it's owner's hand, Charles gains 2 life, and Melinda puts Trostani's Judgement from the stack into the graveyard without resolving its effects.

    b) Removing every token you control. This is self-explanatory.
