No. The text of Ensnaring Bridge reads "Creatures with power greater than the number of cards in your hand can't attack." It doesn't say "can't attack you." They simply can't attack, period.

    Erm, right. RTFC lol.

    Let me change it up:

Let's say I have a Teferi's Moat in play on Red.

The Mons's Goblin Raiders can attack my planeswalker, right?

    Just to confirm:

I have Chandra Nalaar and I have a Teferi's Moat in play set to Red.

My opponent can still attack my planeswalker with his Mons's Goblin Raiders, correct?

damn you with your logic I am so ANGRY

yea, i guess i just felt like i was getting away with something; i.e. "NOW don't you wish you used snow creatures?"

how about a switch to fanning the flames (god, i just can't resist a good buyback spell)
for that matter, it might become slaughter

    HEh, I hear ya

Go with slaughter if you find that at the end of the game you have a lot of life to spare, or if Fanning the Flames requires too much mana. So far I've been really happy with it in my Jaya deck, but I run both Extraplanar Lens and Gauntlet of Power.

thanks for the input! some good suggestions, but i have to disagree on a few points
    1) Taurean Mauler is a goblin; how is there no synergy there? besides, i only play group games, and he OWNS in group.
    2) Chill to the bone basically says 'destroy target creature', but you may be right about dark banishing (it's actually been removed and added a few different times )
    3) Oversold Cemetary - same as DB - i swear i've added and removed this card 3 different times while tweaking....weird i know..... seemed a bit redundant, but in a highlander deck, redundancy is king
    4) Urbog - definitely agreed, but i need to get another one.... it'll be in ASAP
    5) nevinyrral's disk - see above
    6) Beseech the queen - i think i said before that this'll be one of my next cuts....looks like you finally convinced me Wink
    7) zo-zu - he's just so hilarious! mostly in for that reason, but you're right, he draws a lot of hate. just kind of had him in till something better came along
    8) gamble - don't have one, but yea, needs to be in here
    9) Rolling Thunder - i need to get about 5 of these for my different decks. as much tempest as i bought back in the day, i don't have ANY Slant
    10) orcish oriflamme - right on! ..... now i just need an alpha copy so it only costs :1mana::symr:

so, here are a few changes i'd like to make

    -1 beseech the queen
    -1 zo-zu the punisher
    -1 dark banishing
    -1 swamp

    +1 rolling thunder
+1 oversold cemetary (in for good this time)
    +1 urborg, tomb of yawgmoth
    +1 nevinyrral's disk

i've also been thinking about dropping the knucklebone witch. it's really good in a normal goblin deck, but in all the games i've played with this deck, she's never been very impressive.

Erm, you're right about Taurean Mauler. Forgot he was a changeling.

As for Chill to the Bone, I always prefer reusable point removal unless it is particularly efficienct and powerful (eg. Terminate). Something like Royal Assassin or Fanning the Flames would be a better choice for that slot, imho.

    Cut
Dark Banishing - too much point removal, not worth the slot
Chill to the Bone - ditto
Beseech the Queen - too few swamps
Taurean Mauler - not really synergistic with the rest of your deck
Zo-Zu the Punisher - will piss people off for a minor effect that hurts you just as much (and you don't seem to have much in the way of land removal to make Zozu work for you)

    Add
Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth - belongs in all black decks
Rolling Thunder - I think you need more selective mass removal - something between your point removal that hits one creature and your mass removal that hits all creatures. This spell is fantastic and lets you selectively kill off other players creatures while keeping your own intact. Also see Plague Wind
Orcish Oriflamme - boost your tokens
Oversold Cemetery - another Wort effect
Nevinyrral's Disc - I'd like to see some sort of artifact/enchantment mass removal
Gamble - a great card to combine with Wort and goblin cards

    Nah. Again, too simple.

Kinda. It's not a physical answer like that. It's less of a math question, and more of a critical thinking question.

    The person knows the rules.

It's not that you're thinking irrationally, it's that you're barking up the wrong tree.

    Oh Gaaawd.

They write two numbers on EACH piece of paper.
They turn one piece of paper over, and you can see BOTH numbers right there.

It's simple, but not that simple ;).

Don't explain the rules to the person, so that in all likely hood they write down two positive numbers.
My ideas might be "wrong", but they aren't irrational. In the fact pattern, you don't require us to guess, nor do you (explicitly) have us tell the other person the rules.

RUN LOXODON WARHAmMER. It is the #1 reason to play a heartless hidegstu deck.

I concur. Plus, you need some lifegain to offset the damage your own deck will do to you.

    Quote from MellowMight

Equip on flameblast dragon? Good times.

Did that last night. Didn't last long, but made for some pretty huge life swings while it did Grin

You ask someone to write down two numbers on two seperate pieces of paper. The rules for these numbers are that they have to be real, and they can't be zero. Both positive and negative will work.

After they are done, they flip one over and ask you if the other one is negative or positive. What is the chance you will get it right?

Bonus question (only try this one after you posted the answer to the first one)=
There IS a way to increase your odds on this past 50/50. How?

I'm sure a couple of you will get the second question. MTGS'ers are pretty damn smart ;).

Turn over the other piece of paper and see if it's positive or negative.
    Your odds are then 1/1.

    Add
Viashino Heretic - better than Shatterstorm
Gorilla Shaman - better than Shattering Spree
Thieves' Auction - this isn't one of your favourite red tricks? It's my all-time favourite Smile
Rolling Thunder - 500000 times better than Fireball, Blaze, Disintegrate, etc.
Fanning the Flames - 40000 times better than Fireball, Blaze, Disintegrate, etc.
Temple of the False God - Like Scorched Ruins, but better (run both)
Flameblast Dragon - No love for this guy?
Ensnaring Bridge - A great way to protect yourself as you sit behind it and burn your opponents to death
Blood Moon - punish non-mono decks
Grab the Reins - fanTastic red creature removal, direct damage, stealy effect, and gives Hidetsugu haste
Nevinyrral's Disk - as a red deck, you need this
    Oblivion Stone - ditto
Kher Keep - not "why?", but "why not?"
Wheel of Fortune - a great form of red draw, esp. if it's the only card in your hand when you play it and everyone else has multiple cards in hand
Sun Droplet - how is this not in your deck already???
Darksteel Citadel - noticed you're running Obliterate
Mana Geyser - A lot of X spells, a lot of opponents, a lot of mana, what's not to like?

    Cut
Shattering Spree - Viashino Heretic is better
Shatterstorm - Gorilla Shaman is better
Fireball - Rolling Thunder is 5000000 times better
    Blaze - ew.
Demonfire - Can't be prevented isn't bad. Blaze with buyback is better, because reusable removal is king in EDH
    Disintegrate - see Demonfire
Isochron Scepter - not enough instants to make this work as well as it could
Flames of the Blood Hand - A horrible topdeck when facing down a big creature, an army of small creatures, or anything else. Little bitty removal like this is not worth playing in multiplayer, and especially not in EDH
    Fireblast - see FotBH
Pyroblast - too narrow. A horrid topdeck late game if your enemies aren't blue. Also forces you into making the blue guy at the table your enemy, otherwise it's a dead card.
Red Elemental Blast - see Pyroblast
    Parallectric Feedback - see FotBH
    Flame Javelin - see FotBH
    Lightning Blast - see FotBH
2 Mountain - for Citadel and Kher Keep

    Neat deck!

Ok. To make this easier, then, I am going to make all of the cuts right now. We can then debate based on the "new" list. Thanks NB.

No problem! Thanks for making this resource.

As for replacing cards on the current list with new cards, you could make a rule like a second poster has to agree with the change for the card to be replaced. If someone disagrees, then you can hold a vote or something.

    Here are some suggestions:

    Red
Cut Banefire for Fanning the Flames Fanning the Flames is reusable removal, which is especially useful in multiplayer games. Banefire is nice, but most of the time it'll just be a $20 Blaze.

    Black
Cut Skeletal Vampire for Visara the Dreadful Visara is also reusable removal on legs. Skeletal Vampire probably deserves a slot on the list, but I think Visara is more powerful.

    Blue
Cut Foresee for Control Magic Foresee is outclassed by a lot of the draw currently on the list. Control Magic is one of the best steal effects available, and definitely belongs on the list.
Cut Gifts Ungiven for Tinker Gifts Ungiven really requires a lot of support cards to make it worthwhile. Tinker is stupidly powerful and should probably be banned from EDH. Until then, it belongs on this list.

    Artifact
Cut Aether Vial for Vedalken Shackles Aether Vial isn't that great in this format, IMHO. There are better cards to get creatures into play for free (eg. Dragon Arch). Shackles is fantastic and gets around pro:U abilities.

    Utility Land
Cut Ghitu Encampment for Tolarian Academy Tolarian Academy is arguably the most powerful utility land available, in an artifact heavy deck. With two artifacts in play, it's better than Ancient Tomb. It belongs on this list.
Cut Mouth of Ronom for Tolaria West Tolaria West is a great tutor for cards like Academy, Urborg, or any other utility land or any other 0cc card. I run it in all my U decks.

How are we going about this? Should I automatically cut what people suggest if I agree? Are we going to have a few votes? I don't quite know how to approach this. Thoughts?

Let's go down to 25 cards of each colour. Once we're down to 25 it'll be a lot easier to organize and maintain. Then we can have discussions as to what cards should replace the ones currently on the list.

So I support norbert's suggestions. We can always put some back on the list later on, if people think they deserve a slot.

  • posted a message on Hokori Deck...could use some help
    Quote from PrideOfTheClouds
Winter Orb: Isn't that a little redundant when I play Hokori as a general that I can play over and over?

Static Orb: Does that overwrite Hokori, allowing my opponent to untap 2 lands?

    Storage Matrix: See Static Orb.

Depends on how much redundancy you want, I suppose.

But it's important to note that Static Orb says permanents, not lands, and so is arguably more powerful.
I'm not sure as to the layering effects and whether Static Orb will let you untap 2 lands even if Hokori is in play.
