I have to agree on your statements about the new core set.
I will focus on the major one (in my opinion anyway).
The art choices for the Slivers are quite awful; it isn't the artists fault or the way they are illustrated, it's just when I see them Sliver is honestly the last thing that comes to mind.

Got 2 boxes and 6 loose packs, 250 a box and 65 for loose packs.

only downside, I can't seem to find prices on promos on there. It also tracks Modern with updates constantly on price spikes and stuff, plus it has interesting articles about detecting trends. A few sets are missing (Chronicles and Time Shifted subset) but it isn't that big of a deal. I just wish the site was able to track Vintage and Legacy a bit more (maybe even EDH because a lot of foils are going up). There are a few errors you'll see because the date is automatically collected on various sites but for the most part it is a very reliable source when trading.

Local store near me must have about 20 boxes of seemingly unsorted cards. Found an Argivian Archeologist in there for a dime along with stuff like a Swords to Plowshares, Counterspells, Dark Rituals and lots of random Portal rares. I could spend a whole day there and still have more to look through!

I found 3 Crystalline Slivers, Sliver Queen, Helm of Obedience, Rhystic Tutor, Millstone and best of all a Grim Tutor in a misc cards bin! probably my best find ever

I've had a few real good ones.
playset of foil Grim Monolith for 24$ on eBay, beta Illusionary Mask for 50$, Legends Mana Drain (English) for 50$, Legends Moat (English) for 60$, and a bunch of smaller ones (25 cent Sterling Groves, 20$ foil Champions Divining Tops)

so far MBS has been really good for me.
out of 48 packs, I have pulled 10 mythics (no Tezzerets, but 3 Blightsteel, 2 Thrun, Glissa, Sword, 2 Hero of Oxid Ridge and Sphinx). I haven't had pulls this good since Shards.

My fatpack had:

Was weird getting 2 of the same mythic in the fatpack, but it was an awesome one so I was pretty excited! Also got a Go for the Throat and a Sphere of the Suns. Was so worth the money

got a box and 3 packs.
pulled a Thrun in my first pack (other rares were not noteworthy).
In my box I got 6 Mythics total:
Sword of Feast and Famine, Consecrated Sphinx, Hero of Oxid Ridge, Glissa the Traitor, Blightsteel Colossus and another Thrun!
Rares were decent: foil White Sun's Zenith, Black Sun's Zenith, Green Sun's Zenith, Inkmoth Nexus, Phyrexian Crusader X 2 and Mirran Crusader.
Also got a few other noteworthy cards, Slagstorm, 3 Go for the Throat, 3 Goblin Wardriver, 2 Sphere of the Suns and Island # 148 which seems pretty rare (only got one in my box).

You can do a few things with one; sell it to someone who needs it/wants it, trade it for something you can use or hold on to it and see if it is worth more in the future! Depends on what your needs are really.

anyway, from a value standpoint:
Fallen Empires and then Homelands. the sealed booster will almost always be worth more than the contents. Very weak sets without many playable/ desired cards.
It is noteworthy that Fallen Empires misprints with Wyvern backs are worth a bit, but good luck finding those (I'm not even sure if they came from Magic boosters or not).

Prophecy and Saviors of Kamigawa also come to mind. Besides a few fun cards, you could pretty much take out the commons/uncommons from those packs and toss them and hope you got lucky on the rare.

Honorable mention to Chronicles.

I saw the Lorywn/Morningtide ones for that price.
Such a ripoff, if they label stuff that is 3 years old as Vintage I bet they would label stuff 10 years old as Ancient or something. I bet they would price that stuff at double just to rip off people who don't know better.

It would be weird if they pulled a reverse Coldsnap with this.
Like, to expand upon Homelands or something. Then again, they could do that
with just about any standalone set pre Fallen Empires or whatever.

Yeah, amazon dealers seem like they charge money on shipping per item ordered and don't combine or something. I saw Future Sight boosters at .99 + 4.95 (don't know if that covers more than one ordered). I suggest sticking to local dealers and at least knowing you have a chance at that card you want. If they are that price at an actual store (which I doubt), I'd grab up as many as possible (who wouldn't?!)

That's actually very good!
Urza's Destiny boosters are worth a bit (I think 10$ last time I checked)
Scourage, Torment and Odyssey are great too, have fun!
