I absolutely love the Showtime show Dexter. It's about Dexter Morgan, a blood spatter expert in the Miami police department. Dexter's adoptive father, a cop named Harry, realized that Dexter exhibited the sociopathic tendencies of someone likely to become a serial killer. Harry decided to take advantage of Dexter's dark urges by training him to kill murderers who escaped the justice system and to avoid getting caught by the authorities. The series inspired me to create this card:
Card Breakdown
Name: I wanted to put Dexter Morgan, Dark Defender but didn't have enough space (this is a reference to a Season 2 episode).
Creature Type: He's a human who kills people. 'nuff said
Colors:
White:
-Dexter operates under a strict code he refers to as "The Code of Harry" that limits who he can kill. (They must be guilty of murder.)
- He kills to preserve the greater good.
- He prevents bloods spatter at the scene of his kills by covering the room in plastic sheeting.
- He is very meticulous and organized.
Blue:
-Dexter carefully observes, gathers information, and verifies the guilt of his potential victims.
-He makes great use of deception to conceal his activities as well as his sociopathic nature and fake normal emotions, of which he has almost none.
-He deliberately and precisely plans how he will orchestrate his murders.
-He partakes in a great deal of reflection about his life and actions.
Black
-Dexter willfully murders others to accomplish his goal of protecting others.
-He puts his urge to kill above the lives of his victims.
-He has an obsession with blood and keeps a slide of each victim's blood as a trophy.
Mechanics:
Shroud (U): Dexter is very adept at avoiding being caught or brought to justice.
Tap Ability (B,W): This was the cleanest ability that I could think of to embody retributive murder.
Power/Toughness: Perhaps I got a little carried away here, but Dexter is a skilled fighter and trained in hand-to-hand combat. (Update: changed from a 3/3 to a 2/2.)
Flavor Text: The best thing I could find in a 5 minute Google search that summed up Dexter as a whole.
Move the forge-tender to your sideboard and replace it with Wild Nacatl. Forge-tender is just a random dude against a non-red deck and the Nacatl could easily be a 4/4 in your deck.
Also, I don't think you'll be able to consistently activate the Bridge and this deck is too aggressive to support 8 CIPT lands. Replace it with forests or something else.
I'm not entirely sure teeg is necessary but you could try him out.
EDIT: You may also want to consider Qasali Ambusher, which could potentially be a 4/5 for free in your deck.
little running men and gouger not good to anyone? two 3ccs can really put pressure on a close match
Ram gang gets incinerated and inverted way too easily. The gouger would be good but thoctar is better and having RRR and RWG 3-drops just sounds like trouble. Although I admit the right mana base can probably pull it off.
Lush Growth isn't that bad for this deck. It is mana fixing to the extreme.
The best play he can do is turn 1 nactal, turn 2 lush growth fanatic, swing for 3. Then if they attack, he can sneak the ambusher into play. That would be 6 power swinging in turn 3. Not to shabby. Especially when he drops a toctar turn 3 too.
Thank you nonprophet for articulating perfectly my reasons for including lush growth in this deck. I also greatly appreciate everyone else's advice.
I think I will change the deck by dropping Goblin Assault for Woolly Thoctar, although i would still like to test out assault, since it could potentially mean an endless stream of 2/2 hasty dudes. I picked Hell's Thunder over Flame Javelin because its cheaper (in this deck at least), i can reuse it, and I can deal 5 with it if I have Sarkhan Vol out. I'll have to test it though since I've had great success with the javelin and it can kill creatures in a pinch. Personally I love Rip-Clan Crasher since I have a thing for hasty creatures, especially if they're warriors. However, I fear it would intefere with my t2 lush growth/one drop/ambusher plan too much to work in this deck. Chameleon Colossus is just an awesome card overall and can absolutely kill destroy black decks, so he stays. Also, I'm thinking with the mana base i'll have to use I could probably run 2 Sarkhan and 1 Anjani Vengeant. Personally I like Sarkhan better, but Ajani is pretty good too.
Notes
- Not sure about my mana base but it will probably be mostly basics to fuel the ambusher and the kird kitty.
-Haven't had the time to playtest this yet.
-If I had the money, it would probably be +1 Sarkhan, +1 Colossus, +1 FoD, and -3 Tattermunge Maniac.
Sorcery
Put a 3/3 black shadow creature
Blutsau, Sidereel.com has links to all the episodes in the series. That's where I watched most of them.
