I don't think a vanilla 6/6 is game-warpingly powerful. That, combined with the fact that you could probably get it consistently (since you could have several copies of speciate cards in your deck) but probably not quickly/easily (it requires at least four speciations to get the Wurm), makes it feel not overly swingy to me.

Regardless, since the Wurms are the most exciting part of the mechanic and since this mechanic is not obviously broken, I think the current V2 deserves some playtesting before you move on from it- if it proves to be too powerful you can tweak it (and/or the cards you use it on); if it's not fun at all you can scrap it. V2 is a very unique and elegant mechanic and I'd hate to see it not get fully explored.

    Underground Shrine
    Land
T: Add C to your mana pool if Underground Shrine does not have a discovery counter. Put a discovery counter on ~.
T: Add W or B to your mana pool. Activate this ability only if there is a discovery counter on ~.

This way you can only get C ONE time, wich will make the card a little weaker

Adding C repeatedly isn't strong enough to warrant the additional wording that would be needed to avoid it.

Simple, balanced concept. One of the better dual-land ideas I've seen around here. Worded this way, it's still possible to activate the first mana ability while it has a counter on it; it just won't do anything besides adding another counter.

This wording is technically tighter, but has its own awkwardness baked in:

    Underground Shrine
    Land
T: Add C to your mana pool. Underground Shrine loses this ability and gains, "T: Add W or B to your mana pool."

    Thanks!

I intended the first ability to still be usable after its first activation, but it is kind of awkward that it continues to add counters for no reason. I think this would be the simplest fix:

    Underground Shrine
    Land
T: Add C to your mana pool. You may put a discovery counter on ~.
T: Add W or B to your mana pool. Activate this ability only if there is a discovery counter on ~.

I'd still like to use counters in order to avoid memory issues.

If I were designing for a set with DFC's then this would be the cleanest option:

    Hidden Chamber
    Land
T: Add C to your mana pool. Transform ~.
    ///
    Underground Shrine
    Land
T: Add W or B to your mana pool.

Had an idea for a cycle of dual lands. Here's the WB one:

    Underground Shrine
    Land
T: Add C to your mana pool. Put a discovery counter on ~.
T: Add W or B to your mana pool. Activate this ability only if there is a discovery counter on ~.

I'm thinking these would be generally worse than the painlands and the fastlands (since they can't color-fix for you immediately), but probably better than the shadowlands.

Nemesfém is supposed to be a cloistered scholar, right? So maybe something like this?:

    Nemesfém 3WUBR
Legendary Creature — Elder Dragon [M]
    Flying
Whenever Nemesfém deals combat damage to a player, shuffle Nemesfém into your library and draw seven cards.
    [7/7]

The shuffling here is meant to mirror his self-imposed exile into the lower depths of the maze (provided I'm remembering that part correctly) and the draw seven just seemed like an obvious Bolas/Ugin homage and an appropriate bonus.

So if you tapped Spite Fiend to activate its ability or something, you'd lose 2 life even if it did not have a corruption counter on it, correct?

I think you're nailing these designs.

    A couple of questions:

    Varos's First Mate 1B(U/R)
    Creature - Zombie Pirate
When a legendary pirate or vehicle you control dies, you may sacrifice ~ and discard a card. If you do, draw a card and return that card to the battlefield under your control.
    2/3

Which card do you get to reanimate here, the permanent that died or the card you discarded?

Is Port Raider (in the OP) supposed to be blue? I ask because he's a merfolk and he loots instead of rummaging.

First strike isn't double strike, but both are fine mechanics when used appropriately.

It costs a mere 1 to turn off cloak. Because of this, it's not nearly as difficult to deal with as hexproof.

I like this idea a lot, though it's probably towards the upper end of what you can do at common. (It should be fine, as long as you're spending your complexity points wisely.)

At a glance, the individual cards look good, though Goblin Gangleader seems underwhelming.

In most cases, this would just be a worse Cathartic Reunion.

Actually, one is strong while the other is weak. Cathartic Reunion is strong when you have useless cards in hand to discard, while it is unusuable without any other cards in hand. In contrast, Fresh Mind actually generates card disadvantage when you have to discard three cards to it, and it generates card advantage with nothing else in hand. They're polar opposites despite their similar appearance.

Ah. I missed the fact that you could cast this with an empty hand. Carry on then. Wink

The +1 one is really cool. The tap ability is interesting and probably is an effect that actually needs a tap activation to have the same functionality it currently does. The emblem seems really underwhelming. I do like the concept of a RW battlefield tactician planeswalker. Maybe he(?) roams from plane to plane helping rebels and such fight the good fight.

    What about this alternate version:

Blue Red Mill Spell Alternate UR
    Instant
Target player reveals cards from the top of his or her library until he or she reveals a basic land card or ten cards, then puts all cards revealed this way into his or her graveyard.

Against decks with few basics, it's essentially a strictly better Glimpse The Unthinkable. Instant speed mill spell supports draw go control.
This is an interesting idea, although it would need to be worded differently. Your current version would let me choose which mode (ten cards or a basic land), rather than specifying whichever comes first. Honestly, I don't know how modern templating would handle the "whichever comes first" clause. Maybe with bullet points?

"Target opponent reveals cards from the top of his or her library until whichever of the following is revealed first, then puts the revealed cards into his or her graveyard.
    - A basic land card
    - Ten cards"

    Or something like that.

    Interesting.

Another way would be to make it a modal spell where the opponent chooses the mode. What would the wording look like for that?

    Maybe this?:

    Target opponent chooses one-
    • (Option A)
    • (Option B)

I see what you did there. Smile

If we want to evaluate this as a real card at all, this is really brutal.

Whoops. Missed the "end of turn part". Smile Silvercut's assesment is accurate.

This is really cool. I especially like the "free equip" component on the -2. The pricing on the emblem might be a bit off, but the effect seems powerful and a good fit.

I like this a lot and I think you're right about this solving the major issues with splice onto arcane. I'm not sure about the spellcraft costs on these though; keep in mind that you're basically getting a free card from each of these.
