I lean towards liking 1 vs. 1 more than MP because I'm actually not a fan of the "politics" that go on in mp games.
Let's say there are 4 people in a mp game of edh; I'm usually a control player. Player A plays some big spell that nobody else at the table wants to see resolve, so I counter it--now player A hates me. Player B just played some huge fatty, and since I'm drawing quite a few cards, I have an answer for that as well(removal, counter etc.)--now player B hates me. Both of these players are now putting their resources into attacking me even though either one of them would have been disappointed if the other player's spell would have resolved.
People just take it personally when you want to interact with their overall gameplan and attack you in response. They've always got the "Why me?" response, when they and everyone else at the table know why. At some point, most aren't trying to think of the most logical way to win the game(even with whatever Johnny/Timmy/Vorthos cards they are running); they are just trying to get back at you.
Having said that, I have been involved in some fun mp games and I do still join in on them, but usually nothing more than 4 players though, as I don't want to spend 4 hours on a single game.
