Opened trash in the draft so decided it was gonna be the 1 time I didn't value draft, since I didn't see any anyway.
Got passed Entomb, Shardless, Visara, foil Nights Whisper, 2 hymns and I don't know what else. I opened Void, Rorix and something else I can't remember.
The guy across from me popped a Wasteland and that was the best thing I heard of.
I prebought 2 boxes and I'm not sure what to do w/them. Boxes seem really hit or miss...
I decided to change up a bit after some testing. Out went the GPrison/Magus package, and in went 4 sweepers and 4 PWs.
Sitting behind Prisons is fine, but it doesn't win the game. And I always hated seeing Magus, even when it would help me.
I just felt like I didn't have enough threats. Anyone else feel that way?
I went 2-1 and split top 4 w/something closer to drmark, chalice and sup field in, planeswalkers out.
R1 vs Death's Shadow Aggro
G1 t2 Ghostly/t3 Ghostly, then landkill and a Magus to clean up
G2 he TSeize SSG to stop t2 Ghostly. I lose t4.
G3 mull to 6 into a t1 Chalice? I'll take it. Game over.
R2 vs Amulet Titan
G1 I never really see landkill against this guy. Saw 2 Sup Field, which does almost nothing. Chalice on 0 to stop Pacts slows it down, but a Titan takes me down.
G2 Chalice on 1 and 0 buy time until Assemble the Legion gets online.
G3 Mull to 4 but it was awesome. T2 landkill. T3 landkill gets countered. Ended up getting AtL out but he had Seal of Primordium. Dragonlord Dromoka beatdown.
R3 vs UR Delver
Both games went about the same. I baited out counters w/Sup Field so I could land Ghostly. Tied up his mana w/Ghostly and Magus until I could land AtL.
Takeaways:
Chalice does work, no surprise there. Sup Field seems kinda meh. I'm sure it's amazing t1 on the play. I know if I had seen it vs Death Shadow it would've helped. I feel like I need more threats. I may stay w/Chalice and move back to my PW base.
@drmarkb I had totally forgotten about Gifts targeting me! I don't have Halo/Leyline currently to combat it, but they seem like worthy inclusions.
I wasn't worried about the ThopterSword part b/c of Ghostly/Magus, but I didn't have enough disruption to stop Unburial Rites.
Therefore, I may be trying something closer to your build tonight. I've played w/Chalice in legacy, but never suppression field. We'll see how it goes.
How is going the naihiri´s test? I pick a playset but didnt arrive yet. My idea is to include 4 naihiri + 1 emrakul, and 2 ajani. How are you using her?
IMO, she is the truth. My FNM report from this past Fri is on the previous page. I won 1 game each match w/Nahiri ult into Emrakul. People were kinda shocked.
Yes, indeed. As long as you can kill plenty of land and have the right mana base, with plenty of early action (i.e. before t3) the rest of the shell just has to have synergy with itself, a decent curve with decent board options. Its when parts of the deck start antagonising each other it falls flat pretty quickly.
Your list is one of the tighter resto/kiki versions I have seen, lots of synergy, good curve.
I might add it to the primer if I get a minute and you keep getting results.
Good report, BTW.
Thanks! I'm shifting the list around a little, trying to improve. I'm going to try moving away from Resto/Kiki to lower the curve. I'm trying SSG and Crack the Earth, but I'm not sure if I'm going to like CtE.
Went 3-0 w/this at FNM. I'll write what I can remember.
R1 vs Grixis Delver 2-0
G1 I helix his Young Pyromancer, then blow up lands before cleaning up w/Anger while at 10. Nahiri takes it home.
G2 He gets a lot more lands but I'm destroying as fast as he's laying. I eventually get Avalanche+Kiki
R2 vs Infect 2-0
G1 He hits me twice to put me to 8 poison. I rip Nahiri to exile Blighted Agent. Nahiri wins it.
G2 I have the bolt for his t2 inkmoth swing. I drop Nahiri and he scoops.
R3 vs Amulet 2-1
Match of the night. G1 I don't see as much LD as previously, but could've won if I had ripped any LD to keep him off GG to pay for Pact.
G2 I destroy everything. T4 Avalanche/T5 Resto/T6 Resto
G3 Awesome game. I blow up early lands, then have a choice-destroy the only blue source or Slayer's Stronghold. I choose Stronghold. Right decision.
I get Ajani+Nahiri out but he has Prime Time+Spellskite. I bolt PT, helix PT(spellskited), helix PT(spellskited), Ajani helix PT to clear the board.
He double Pact, double PTitan but w/out haste he passes and Nahiri ultimates.
Takeaways:
Nahiri wins games. I was never sad to see her. My original idea for Nahiri was Resto+kiki, just get the one you didn't have. But I didn't do that combo all night.
Those 5 cards could be something else maybe. Ajani is still good, but Nahiri seems SO much better. I don't know if that's because she's new and shiny, but we'll see.
I'll probably go back to the more prison style I was running before-Magus/GPrison/GDD. I also have SSG/Chalice to maybe try that route.
I welcome any suggestions or questions. It seems like so many different builds of this archetype can do well!
Perhaps every so often (every 3 yrs or 5 maybe), WOTC could "reboot" the banlist. Unban everything, except for Top/Second Sunrise for time purposes, for a set amount of time. 3 or 6 months.
That way maybe they could get some ACTUAL data on what's overpowered, not just speculation or conjecture.
Yes, I know it'll never happen. Yes, I know the biggest problem with this idea is probably the fact that the secondary market would explode.
I based my Ok to unban cards mostly on cards that were legal but got too big of a share of the meta over time(Pod, Twin, DRS, Bloodbraid)
or cards that never had a chance in modern(JTMS, SFM). Some cards might be in the wrong spot, but I feel it's pretty close.
I think ideally Modern should have either Ponder or Preordain and Rite of Flame or Seething Song. As for Cloudpost, if Eldrazi Temple/Eye of Ugin is ok, Cloudpost is ok.
Feel free to agree or disagree, it's more of a thought exercise than anything.
Entomb
Rorix
Braids
***
Ichorid
Heritage Druid
Foil Nights Whisper
Those were the 6 loose packs.

Lost to UR Delver, but beat Mono B Vampires, Tron, and Deaths Shadow Aggro twice. God hands in both games vs Tron didn't hurt.

On the other hand, squeaked out a match vs Grixis Control. Lost g1 b/c I saw like 2 LD spells the whole game.
G2 hid behind 3 Ghostly Prison, then topdecked a helix the turn before I would have died.
G3 t5 Assemble the Legion, t6 Bust. He made land drops every turn afterwards and I didn't, but Tasigur was helpless before the Legion.
It would be a different angle for Bridge builds to win, plus a way to beat Lantern(I don't know how the matchup is).
I think it would take 2 of each card plus 3-4 Idyllic Tutor. As such, I don't know what would have to go.
Apologies if this has been tried and dismissed.
I toyed with the heavy creature build(3 Avalanche Riders/3 Resto/2 Kiki) but it was kinda clunky.
I had removed the Ajani altogether, but I think I'll switch them in for the Riders.
Glad to see others getting on the Nahiri train. I know it's not for every build, just another weapon.
Probably a bad question but I'll ask the more seasoned posters: Is the new Avacyn worth a look for some builds(obv not Bridge builds)?
I have a modern FNM this week(the local store bounces between STD and MOD). I'll try to report like last time.
IMO, she is the truth. My FNM report from this past Fri is on the previous page. I won 1 game each match w/Nahiri ult into Emrakul. People were kinda shocked.

Yes, I know it'll never happen. Yes, I know the biggest problem with this idea is probably the fact that the secondary market would explode.
I just find it hard to reconcile the fact that t2 Thought-Knot Seer is perfectly fine, but t2 Stoneforge Mystic is too powerful.
My banlist would probably look something like:
Blazing Shoal
Sensei's Divining Top
Second Sunrise
Dark Depths
[/card]Hypergenesis[/card]
Those are the definites. The probables would be(I would want testing to confirm):
All fast mana(Chrome Mox, Rite of Flame, Seething Song)
Broken equipment(Skullclamp, Jitte)
Artifact lands(I was out of the game during Mirrodin so I defer to others on Affinity's reign)
The 50/50s:
Dread Return
Glimpse of Nature
Mental Misstep
Ponder/Preordain
Punishing Fire
Dig/TC
The OK to unban:
Ancestral Vision
Bloodbraid Elf
Birthing Pod
Splinter Twin
JTMS
Stoneforge Mystic
Deathrite Shaman
Cloudpost
Green Sun's Zenith
Summer Bloom
Sword of the Meek
I based my Ok to unban cards mostly on cards that were legal but got too big of a share of the meta over time(Pod, Twin, DRS, Bloodbraid)

Twin
Company decks
Affinity
Burn
will be well represented.
SB:
2 Path
2 Defl Palm
2 Volc Fallout
2 Kor Firewalker
3 Molten Rain
4 Dest Revelry
Still trying to shore up the MB, mainly settling on the # of lifegain hate cards to run. I'm at 4 Command/2 Skullcrack currently.
