wow, this deck has been great, i have yet to side in spellskites, not sure when i really need it. livewire and rune pike havent been useful, but they would probably come in handy against control i guess. Online is all aggro like wolf run, delver, and humans. So i may take those out. been wreckin delver all nite, missteps and gut shots have been great against them.
Also, no one runs spellskites, unless you run into the mirror i guess. I love that the two bounce spells played cost 1 mana. missteps, blessings, and guile all combat this.
Im a bit worried about zombies though, i havent run into them, but i know they play a bit of removal and very fast deck, anyone ran into them?
im loving this deck, some aggressive mulligans, but this is workin out great. apostles are life savers. gitaxian is great cause i know if i should play creature with out extra mana open or not. so far, 5-1 on mtgo with the france list. any insights on sideboarding. Vs UR Delver and humans, I just put in 2 gut shots, and took out equipment because they can be really fast.
Played some random stuff too, which i didnt bother sideboarding for
I didnt see thalia...thank goodness! but that can certainly become a problem, I have 2 gut shots mb and 2 sb though
I wasn't a huge fan of Fumes during lots and lots of Cockatrice testing.
I almost and I mean almost every testing game sided in the additional Conscripts and just decided to keep it in the MB.
To make up for the Fumes I added an additional Slip in the SB.
Additional Metamorph for Frites.
Cut SB Lilys as they were never good.
Extra CoS in the SB for control.
Solemn was for having a 4drop that didn't die to Curse and could block pro-black. Added Extra Falk in SB to replace if more damage was better.
Vs U/B Zombies
Basic U/B Zombies but with MB 4x Obliterators and Blood Artist and 2-3 Killing Wave for some reason.
Game 1 - He plays Obliterator I pod a Metamorphed Geralf for a Metamorph and get a 6/6 Obliteratormorph and 5/5 Obliteratormorph. He then draws for his turn and scoops.
Game 2 - Outright aggro and his hand had two useless Killing Waves.
Notes - Gloom Surgeon was an all-star in the match up keeping him from attacking at all or always netted me his Ghouls and Graves.
Vs Esper Control
Great Player who has won 3 Gamedays in a row.
Game 1 - I slow roll a Caverns and Zealous so with only a Ghoul on board when he has 8 counters Gideon I play Caverns tap for Zealous use Gideon 0 and hit for 11.
Game 2 - His best play was copying my Blood Artist with Image to counter my Blood Artist. Close match up but he's able to secure it thanks to Gideon and two Lingering Souls.
Game 3 - He wraths my board twice in the period of the game and the second time my Metamorphed Messenger dies and has to copy a Pod. I have three pods in play now. I play Gloom Surgeon pod for Messenger for 2. Pod that for Metamorph copy Messenger and that is 6 in total. Then pod that for Falk and swing with it for a total of 12 damage in one turn.
Note - Lucky me didn't see any Curse of Death's Hold.
Vs U/W Human Delvers
Besides the usual it also had Bladesplicers and Restoration Angel. His SB was real strong siding in 2 Surgicals and 2 Steel Sabotages.
Game 1 - I win by playing a Blood Artist to have 2 in play then pod a Messengermorph for Falk then swing and sac my entire board for a total of 13 damage in one turn.
Game 2 - I attack into a flashed Angel and he blocks my Messenger. To be fair I expected it but wanted to get in with 4 damage with a Ghoul and Gloom but he then surgical'd the Messenger and proceeded to just swing in attacking me.
Game 3 - He plays Delver and I Slip it. Plays another and I slip it too. Plays Angel and I Throat it and just swarm him.
Note - Lucky me no Crusaders in the board.
what is your sideboarding like? Why the cavern in the SB? When do you put obliterator in?
I was playing someone on MTGO and was very intrigued by their list. Thoughts? Goal was to win in air or just chalice of life win with all the life gain
I feel like a lot of people dont understand the interaction. Cloning a field full of messangers is just as devastating, and easier to do. Plus they are more resiliant and dont die to an un morbid slip. I've tried both BR and BU and found mono black the safest route.
can you elaborate on this? What do you all think is the best approach in general, having messenger and pod in play, what would you do?
I currently have 3 two zombie decks this one and a br, i will likely use this one for casual play only since testing has not been done yet
Im liking this deck, but is their any value in keeping this a zombie deck? for this and abusing the ctp effects, I would certainly keep the messenger, but gravecrawler, diregraph, and ghoul, are they necessary?
It just seems like you are slowly going a different route, which I like, but I dont think this would end up being a zombie deck
Right now, with the meta as majority aggro, red is the way to go. I am keeping the cards for both decks, because if control decks begin to service, I will definitely be switiching back to blue.
I really wish blue had a good sac outlet. Having the Aristocrats are so beneficial being able to sac what I want, when I want, and of course reoccurring the gravecrawlers.
