I guess in a weird way this card reminds me of Molten Rain...2 effects put together that on paper seem pretty nice, yet just isn't good enough to see competitive play...although I do think this is a step up from Molten Rain...just saying
I'd venture to guess that we're far enough ahead of Future Sight where we just might not any exact reprints, but cards that look like they were inspired from mechanics in Future Sight. Heck, even Phosphorescent Feast underwent a change before seeing print in EVE
Are the 3x Heartmender that important? It seems like The lieges, blessings, and Shields (if you add them) are enough to beef up the persisters. I think I would maybe:
What deck would want this? Of course we still have to see ~250 cards, but an aggressive R/B deck would probably prefer Ashenmoor Gouger or Flame Javelin...something that gets more bang for the buck (i.e. lowering life totals ASAP). Still...seems solid for a sideboard.
Most people I know have creatures. For the combo aspect I have direct damage via lighting bolt etc.
Combo? Anyway, I would move closer to Molten Disaster, Earthquake, Pyroclasm, Sulfurous Blast (and the like) and farther from spells that hit only one target. That should significantly reduce the number of cards in your deck and eliminate many of the white wrath-type effects you have/want. But yeah, as others have said, R/W is the way to go. You can even pick up the new R/W PW from Alara, even though it'll prob have a nice big target on its head as soon as it hits play.
If you want red in there, I suggest either Power of Fire or my personal favorite Arcane Teachings. I mainly prefer the Teachings because I have a playset of Needle Specter and I'm too stubborn to make a B/R Wither deck without it. Plus, it makes all of your guys stronger on offense, since many Wither Creatures are low on power, or they can just ping EOT and let Crumbling Ashes or Kulrath Knight take them out of the game. My deck looks like this at the moment (purely casual, and struggling to make it finalized).
There should be enough -1/-1 counters going around to make Blowfly Infestation only a sideboard consideration for tokens, and I guess Everlasting Tormentcan be sided in for lifegain...I dunno, just not a fan of my creatures getting counters put on them because of it when most of my creatures powers are only 1 to begin with, and with Crumbling Ashes around. I really really like the Wither mechanic, and I hope that someday it can be somewhat competitive.
Whoops, my bad. But yeah, you get the point. Still needs some help to make it a competitive winner. And for the casual crowd, Seedborn Muse and/or Murkfiend Liege has a new friend.
The Djinn makes for good times with Electrolyze and Schismotivate, and can be brought out EOT with the Liege...but really, it's the early drops that are most effective with these cards. How is Crackleburr working out? It seems like a nice card, but I always wonder if there are ever enough creatures/mana available to make it worthwhile
Not to mention this card loves 3 of the better auras from SHM/EVE...I'm just curious to see what kind of manafixing we'll get...I personally hope we get some decent mana artifacts at uncommon, and take a break from rare dual lands
