    Hey all,

I'm in the Game Design program at Full Sail University. A lot of it centers around video game, but it does a lot of "design" in general. I've decided to use my knowledge to try and create a fun card game - and I've decided to chronicle it in the form of a blog. I'd really like some feedback from you guys. You can read the blog here.

Thanks in advance for your opinions!

  • posted a message on What other CCG's and TCG's have you tried?
I've tried a lot of them, but I love the LCG format the best. I play Call of Cthulhu and Star Wars pretty regularly. I also play Lord of the Rings very casually (it's a cooperative game, not competitive).

For those interested in getting to know Call of Cthulhu I suggest you visit their forums at CardgameDB.com, by the Core Set (from Amazon, cause it's cheap) and check out this new blog called Fear Itself that's about introducing Call of Cthulhu to new players and making casual players more competitive.

It's a known bug, everyone who has done the quest seems to experience it to some degree. I'm lucky in that I don't get arrested in the streets in Markath, but there's a Thieves' Guild quest I still can't do because the guards in the area I'm meant to sneak into psychically detect me as soon as I enter. Apparently you can finish the Mine quest an alternate way that does not give you this bug:
    Kill Madanach
By the time I read about that, I was too far progressed to go back and do so.

So there's no bed that I can sleep in to "wait" it out or anything? For some reason when I went in to the mine it did my last three or more Auto Saves, so my previous save has 7 less hours on it... I'm going to lose all 7 hours aren't I?

    Okay, so I've hit kind of a snag;

The following should probably only be read if you've done the Forsworn/Cidnha Mine quest.

I completed the quest to release the old king who was trapped in the Cidnha Mines. I had a bounty, and so the guards came for me. I wasn't even given the option to pay my bounty, I was just thrown in the mines. Now, all the people in Mines are gone - and all the doors are locked (requiring a key, which I don't have since when you get arrested you're striped of your ****). So I tried attacking some of the guards on the other side of the door, assuming that if I ran away they'd come after me - but they don't.
So I went to go reload and my last three auto-saves are from being inside Cidnha Mine. Anyone know anything I'm missing?

On the plus side, Revelations is supposedly the last one with Signore Auditore (the word "trilogy" was thrown around). They're keeping very closed-mouth on the "where to next?" side of things, though, of course. I imagine they want us to be all buhwah? over what happens with Desmond first, while dropping the hints for where Assassin's Creed III(?) ends up. :p

As far as Brotherhood goes, they imply at the end (with Desmond and the others) that we might be going to France.

They've actually come out and said that things like Civil War, Revolutionary War and WWI America is over done, so they don't want to do that.

Technically, the Wii is mostly backwards compatible but you have to buy the N64 and other games on the Wii Store.

I only had Wii, but no N64 (had PSX at that time). What am I losing in order to get more capabilities, wireless controls and newer games? OMG

The Wii has wireless controllers?! Bull****! Where?

Besides that, since we're talking about XBox games I'll recommend Marvel Ultimate Alliance. It's a dungeon crawler, with super heroes. It's really a lot of fun and four can play on a single system, on a single screen.

You can do split screen Borderlands, but I think it's only up to two players. Everyone else had great suggestions too. Halo (of which you can play Reach, Halo 3, and Halo 3 ODST now), ME3 will support four players as well - but that's a few months away.

For halloween I'm making a costume for Spider Man Noir (it's the only thing that I can think of that would be easy and not time consuming). I don't mind paying money, I just don't want it to take very long. I can get almost everything together for it - except the mask. Where do you find masks like that? I've looked all over. I've googled, and eBayed, and I've found a single website that does special orders.

    Can anyone help?

Vegas and a bunch of other markets have 4 bedroom houses in that price range.

If you want it out in 2 years, there's no vehicle that is going to produce more than chump change for you, especially since you need a SAFE investment ( not stocks ) to make sure you still have a down payment.

Like I said, chump change is fine - it making even a dollar is more productive and efficient then it sitting in a checking account making nothing.

Honestly, I'd recommend putting it in an IRA instead and pull it out in 30-40 years.

Thanks, but the entire idea is to have a comfortable and sizable down payment.

    Couple questions:

#1. How much does a house cost you would be looking at?
#2. How much down payment do you need?
#3. How much have you saved so far?

In my area 20% is required to avoid insurance fees against the mortgage.

The average for my area is $90k. I need something big, though. I have a 2 year old daughter, and I'm still pretty young and might have another kid in the future. That being said, I'm aiming for something that's 4bd/2ba at least. Assuming at least a 20% down payment on something that's $120k is $24k. And as of right now I have $5k (including this $2k that we're talking about). I'll be able to put $2.5k (or a little bit more) into this fund every 6 months. In January of 2013 that'll be close to $15k, just on my value. I don't expect to make up that $9k in interest, but I definite think that the change of the interest will help, considerably. This is all assuming the house is $120k - which is on the high side, I know but better safe than sorry.

Just put your money in some bonds. They will have a higher interest rate than your savings account or CD and are generally secure investments. There's no huge risk unless the entire corporation goes bankrupt but how frequently does that happen? Even in the case of bankruptcy, you have a higher priority claim to the corporation's assets than shareholders, who frequently get nothing.

(I wouldn't put too much money in bonds, however, because interest rates are currently low and when interest rates rise, the value of bonds decreases.)

I'm not really familiar with how this works. What are some average bond interest rates? And can I buy bonds out of any company?

That's actually part of the apeal for me. To many games these days hold you by the hand and pick u up when u fall. Minimaps. Waypoints. Questlogs. Some games flat out telling u where something is for no other reason then so you don't wander at all. Id say if your a player that gets frusrated by lack of direction then dark souls isn't for you. Hell I just starte2d exploring the gameworld with no real objective2. See what you think is a enemy and shoot it it turns out to be a npc u just pissed off and don't get to know his story now...because u don't know all the answeres or the whys and imo that's a good thing. Since the game can be complet2ed in different directions having a lack of direction doesn't impact you at all...less you go and avoid bosses.

There's a significant difference between having your handheld and being told where to go. I don't want a waypoint or a quest log or anything like that - but being plopped down in a world and being told "You can rest at Bonfires, later." Is something totally different. If there were an NPC at the beginning in the Shrine that was like "You could go to Undead Burg, which is that way." But there isn't. There's NO direction. I'm not going to stop playing it - I can figure it out on my own, and I'm going to go exploring anyways, but why the hell would I should I be motivated? I have no quest. I have no purpose. I'm just plopped by this fire, there's a guy moping, and that's it.

Honestly - all I want is someone there who says "This is an option - it's this way. This is an option - it's that way. Later." But there's NOTHING.

That aside - I love the game. I've backtracked a couple of times, tried out some of the different classes and weapons, but the game is amazing. It's beautiful scenery, awesome fights and the combat is pretty compelling.

PS, aedenwolfe, you're supposed to get frustrated. If you're a new player, don't listen to that - you're supposed to be frustrated and you're not supposed to know where to go. Don't let this discourage you from trying this game out.

So this game is pretty difficult. I'll admit, though, that a lot of the difficulty, I think, comes from the lack of direction instead of the combat difficulty (although the combat is pretty hard some times). I find myself at a loss of where to actually go sometimes. I've found myself spending an hour or so grinding, only to think back and say "What was I supposed to be doing...?"

I'm honestly not sure what you mean by this. How do you use the Doom combat system when you aren't in combat?

His stipulation was a combat system that you DON'T use when you're not in combat. Which actually doesn't make any sense. In what game would you use a combat system outside of combat?

    1) An interactive system that gives you responsibilities outside of combat-oriented gameplay (be it fiscal, dialogue, love/hate meter, factions, etc.).

    2) A character with a face, a name and a voice (one or many, as long as the characters feel real).

And that's it. This rules out Call of Duty, because the whole game is combat, and therefore can't have a non-combat system. Rules out Zelda, because Link is silent, and is always "assumed" to want to do the right thing (which isn't very realistic either). Rules out Starcraft due to the same reasons of Call of Duty. Includes original FF games (they all have at the very least a monetary system and all the characters are realistic and vocal.) I'm sure this is flawed, but I'm still willing to add a third stipulation if someone throws me a curve ball.

Current season I'm watching Fringe, Dexter (though I'm behind), Person of Interest, Big Bang Theory, Tosh.0. Although I'm interested in trying out American Horror Stories, Once Upon a Time, Terra Nova, Grimm and Alcatraz.
