previously the rare was "locked" into the same configuration of commons and uncommons, meaning that if I opened 2 seeded RTR packs both with Deathrite Shaman as the rare, for example, all the commons and uncommons would also be identical.

With Khans of Tarkir, the rare became the foil pre-release card, and they were randomly selected. So while we still had the 8 different configurations for each clan, the actual foil rare was not locked to specific configurations.

Thats why the spreadsheet for Khans of Tarkir is organized differently from the other sets.

I'll be keeping it updated in the event that the seeded boosters are indeed new this time around

I'm still committed to the thought that the seeded pack commons and uncommons are the exact same configurations as from the KTK prerelease.

in the pre release primer article today, they said that there's 1 of 6 different promos in each box so that's a good indicator of the promos being FRF cards. That doesn't mean anything for the rest of the pack though, as the promo was seeded independently from the rest of the cards

We simply dont know what the seeded packs will be yet

I would not be surprised if the seeded boosters were the exact same as last pre-release. We already have 4 boosters of fate reforged, that is a large proportion of cards from a small set. The Khans seeded booster would provide you with most of the core cards you need in the chosen clan, without wasting as much card pool slots on off-color cards. So for all intents and purposes, I would be re-using the same KTK seeded boosters for the sealed pool generators.

I think they need to give the Chronicles excuse a rest. It's the same principle, but a MUCH different era. The Modern format was defined as a pool of cards that they are entitled to reprint at will. People need to expect that their $10 standard cards will not always be worth the super-inflated $70 they currently are. Modern card prices NEED to tank, there's no reason for modern-frame uncommons to be $10 and rares be $40-50. Mass-printing Modern Masters isn't going to crash the Reserved List and Legacy card prices, cards which ACTUALLY warrant holding their values. The "Collectors" that Wizards is afraid of pissing off are not collectors, they're speculators.

We have a large MTG community in my town and surrounding area, and our Standard FNMs and tournaments often push the LGS to max capacity. Our local pre-releases hit 70+ people and are hosted in a larger venue. We have tons of drafters and limited players as well. Yet whenever our monthly Modern FNM rolls around, we get maybe 25% real modern decks, $25 "enhanced" standard decks, and the rest are people just playing their Standard decks. We can barely scrape together 8 players for Modern GPTs and Modern tournaments. Modern is completely inaccessible to them. Even the few that are willing to shell out hundreds/thousands of dollars for the modern staples find it difficult to locate the cards in stock or in binders. It's a serious problem, and I would be very surprised if its an isolated issue. Modern Masters did NOTHING to increase supply and lower prices. It made Modern even less accessible than before it was released. That is horrible.

If Wizards wants Modern to thrive, they need to change their way of thinking. They need to make the format more accessible to the players who want to play it. Modern should be a player's format, not a collector's. Limited print runs won't help. 2.5x multiplier on booster MSRP won't help.

They added 20 uncommons to the normal set structures a bit ago, 185 is normal now.

thanks to everybody's help, we were able to identify 38 of the 40 configurations. With only 1 Jeskai and 1 Temur list remaining, I encourage anyone looking to purchase a prerelease box some time in the future to take note of their contents so we can finish the last 2 lists. Also, if any local stores are thinking of cracking their supply of boxes to resell loose boosters, try and convince them to hold onto the seeded boosters for possible missing lists.

you mean by making the colors horizontal instead of vertical? The rares are listed separately in this case because they are independent from the rest of the pack -- previously all rares would always have the same commons/uncommons with them, so it was important to keep them organized that way.

thanks for the help everybody. Just a reminder, I have no interest in incomplete lists or just the rares, as the emphasis is on the commons/uncommons and they are dissociated from the rare in this set anyway.
