The End of an Era

Right now I'm in the complicated process of arranging meet-ups and I have to stall some quests while I wait for others to synch up with it chronologically. Right now I'm trying to slow down you and Landil while I wait for a few other characters' quests to move along. Sorry, I'll try to update more frequently.

If that's the case, I suppose by the time my exams are over and I have time to do a proper character, it'll be too late to catch up. Crying

And yes, I should actually be studying right now. :p

I guess I'll abandon the half-baked character in the character creation thread then. (I'll edit the post to reflect this when I have time.) Let my character stand forever resolute as a monument to my hatred of exams, and my epic fail-ness!

Don't be surprised if you see a guest reading through the threads now and then, though! Grin

EDIT: By the way, I'll probably by leaving the forum for some time, so, as a parting shot, can anyone guess who my friend is? Wink

And I think that the 'Dead Zone' is just basically a section of land that's particularly inhospitable. Think the Sahara desert, where you have a vast patch of sand, with better conditions on either side.

Well, inhospitable to humans, perhaps. But I believe that there were supposed to be some, as-of-yet unknown, kinds of creatures in there? Of course, if they were on the planet to begin with, they would have had much more time to adapt to the environment. Which puts us at a disadvantage when facing them, of course.

Does anyone know if there is only one Dead Zone in the whole of Disegreth?

Of course, we'll find out more on these intriguing topics when we actually go into the place itself.

I don't want to give a clear definition of accendo because nobody on Disegreth totally understands it. While I do write from the omniscient author perspective, I don't want to give away exactly how it works. Basically right now, we observe accendo as a kind of natural force that is emmited from the planet itself. Light is produced by fire and other stars and trapped y the planet's atmosphere, allowing it to be to be affected by accendo. Health, however, doesn't bind itself to any natural property, save maybe for some herbal remedies.

As I say, maybe there should be a list to choose from. All we have at the moment is fire, water, earth, wind and light. This could be sufficient for most times, but one problem with this would be that there are many grey areas, where an object can be classified under more than one element, e.g. lava, mud, mist.

And I don't suppose priests have divine powers, do they?

Well, if he wants to remain anonymous, it's his choice. Why don't you ask him why, instead of me? (If you can find him. ;))

But seriously, if humans came from Earth to another planet, shouldn't there still be the wreck of a spacecraft somewhere? If it's not too damaged, maybe some technology can be salvaged, so that we don't have to fight with crossbows and swords. After all, magic seems imbalanced:

"You see a figure approaching in the distance."
"I remove ALL air from that area."
"He suffocates. He dies. You win."
    -Awkward silence-

See what I mean? Hmm. Maybe I should get on finding that ship, once my character is in working order. Or maybe that mysterious weapon IS the ship! What do you all think?

It isn't about character creation, so I thought I'd post it here:

Hmmm... this is really pushing the boundaries. Healing isn't the speciality of the Nomeni because it's not something that generally would emanate from a planet. I like the concept of a healer but I think it needs to be executed differently. Let me think about it for a while and I'll get back to you.

Maybe you should have a fixed list of elements for people to choose from. Or give a clear definition of what Accendo is, so that people's concepts do not clash with your own. For example, when people think "Light mage", they tend not to think of actually manipulating light.

On a similar topic, I was discussing with a friend of mine, who also is a member of this forum (but declined being my official referer), about the level of technology on Disegreth. He said that most Earth technology would probably have been lost, but I pointed out that there were already robotic arms (echtelionv2). Perhaps you should also have a note on that, to prevent someone creating a Sancti Mechanic and spamming AT-ATs.

Anyway, my character history is on hold now, until I get a suitable element. If not, I'll probably make a Sancti mechanic (but not spam AT-ATs) or a Wind Mage. Wind mages seem best for deadly force. They suffocate people.

And I was wondering who that guest watching all the threads was!

Yeah, that probably was me. While I was going to the aforementioned friend's house to do a project for school, he showed me this forum and I've been lurking as a guest ever since. I know some other people who have been lurking, but they have told methat they will not join.

Heh, my first post in a Magic forum, in a thread for an RP with nothing to to with Magic. What does this say about my character (no pun intended)? :p

Anyway, I'm in the midst of creating a character. I'm trying to make a Nomeni support character, but none of the elements seem to fit, so I'm trying to make my own. (see below, under Element) I got the idea from reading about auras from emotions affecting Accendo in Avatar of Kokusho's thread.

I'm still doing the background, but I want to post the element here first, to see if it's okay. I'll edit this post later with the rest of the character information. It'll probably be much later though; I'm in the midst of exams at the moment. And someone ELSE I know should be studying too. You know who you are! Wink

    Nomeni
    Name: Nathaniel “Ozzy” Smith
    Age: 16
    Sex: Male
    Role: Support/Medic

Element: (I can't think of a suitable name)
Nathaniel has the ability to harness the latent “positive” energy around him. Gaining power from happiness, kindness, courage, righteousness, life, love, faith, and every kind of positive emotion or thing from the Accendo flowing around him, he uses it to heal, or bestows it onto others, giving them energy and strength (read “Buff”). He can also convert this “positive” energy into other forms of energy, but much is lost in the transfer. Thus, Nathaniel can do things like creating very minute amounts of heat or light. Among these abilities, he specialises in creating bolts of kinetic energy. A versatile ability, he can use it to aid him in pushing a heavy object, knock enemies over and immobilise flying projectiles, among many other things. However, doing this constantly or repetitively for extended periods requires a lot of focus and causes large amounts of strain.

Appearance: Messy black hair; Fair skin; Brown eyes; Plain clothes (White T-shirt and jeans, he's got a wardrobe full of them, and a brown cloak); Left-handed (though it's not immediately obvious); Once said to look like an “Ozzy” (thus the nickname)
Other items: Brown cloak, wardrobe full of white T-shirts and jeans (see above). He also always carries his two family heirlooms: a small, easily-concealable dagger with an odd, clear, unidentifiable crystal embedded into the hilt; a small bracelet of gold beads which was blessed by a Buddhist monk while on Earth, and was passed down to his mother from his grandmother. He has sworn never to let these two items go (I am so going to be made to let them go). Lastly, he also carries with him a small silver cross on a silver necklace, which he found one day on his way to school. He felt an odd attraction to it, and wears it around his neck. Strangely, the cross is in perfect condition, with no markings on it at all, though the necklace is already slightly tarnished.
