Hi, if I have a Gyre Sage out, and I cast Avatar of the Resolute do I get to determine the order of counters placed? I think both happen at the same time so I get to choose the order. What I've been doing is, having the Gyre Sage evolve first and putting a counter on it from the Avatar of the Resolute coming into play, and then putting a counter on the Avatar of the Resolute because I decided to trigger his ability second and with the Gyre Sage having a counter now he will get one too.
I just want to confirm that's right, or does the Avatar trigger coming into play and is done and over and afterward Gyre Sage Evolves which is too late for the Avatar to get a counter. Thank you!
Hi, I've been playing magic since the 90's and wasn't aware there was a rule change in 2010. I've been reading the combat rules now, and not sure I see how I can do something I've been doing using prior to 2010 rule change involving a Nettle Sentinel and Giant Growth.
What I could do was, my opponent declares attackers, I would then cast giant growth on my tapped Nettle Sentinel to untap them, and then declare them as a blocker. Now it looks like the rules say they choose attackers, I choose blockers, if my Nettle Sentinel is tapped I can't declare it as a blocker since it's tapped. Then I get to cast spells, and now is useless casting giant growth on the Nettle Sentinel to untap it since the declare blockers step is over. Is that the case or can I still cast giant growth after declaring attackers so I can untap it and declare it a blocker? Thank you
