I swing with the Thornling so it is a 7/7 double striker with the equipment effects and whatnot. Now...it goes unblocked. Let me see if I get this straight. First strike damage first, they take 7 correct? Now the Sword abilities stack, opponent discards a card, and I untap all lands I control right? Once this happens, say it untaps 3 lands I control, can I then tap for 3 mana, and pump Thornling 3 times with the +1/-1 making it a 10/4 so my opponent then takes 10 normal damage totaling the damage dealt to 17?
i'm thoroughly convinced that if you took the two ideas in this deck (overseer and scepter) split them up, and made a decks catered to each of those ideas, you'd get much better results. Aggro artifacts which is generally affinity mainboards zero removal and disruption and it has done well in the past. Scepter combo likewise is powerful but you need more room to make it work
Yeah I'm sure it would work better no doubt. This isn't supposed to be a tournament winning deck anyway. Hence the casual boards lol. Every deck on this board has a better alternative. I'm just trying to make this somewhat work in my group under the given conditions.
i'm not quite sure how this deck is being piloted but im pretty sure this isn't aggro, it feels more control to me. With only 16 (maybe 18) creatures this deck doesn't even abuse steel overseer
Well hence the thread here lol
But it's actually better than you think. I haven't really put up a list I'm actually using though cause I'm not sure on any of them. I'm still debating if I want Etherium Scupltor, more Sculpting Steels, Phyrexian Metamorphs, and put the Voltaic Keys back. The Scepter package is honestly mostly a group call cause everyone wants to play combo. But I refuse to stop playing creature based decks so I'll compromise lol. Either way, the scepter package isn't like it's totally random. Removal, the control to buy time for combo, the draw (which the deck needs) aren't really out of place as I'd probably run most of those spells regardless so I'm really just throwing in 4 scepters here. And with Tezzeret and the copy artifacts it does work out.
I'd honestly lose the blue, I mean there is so little of it and unless your using the original dual lands, which I doubt it is seriously gonna mess with your mana base.
I'd use these four spots to add an Eternal Witness, add an Acidic Slime (if problem lands are in your meta), add a fourth Stoneforge Mystic (if you can afford too), and than add a Garruk Wildspeaker if you don't have problems with lands or can't afford the fourth Mystic than add a second Wildspeaker.
The only green utility creature I can think of that you don't have but it's not overly necessary is Kitchen Finks.
Overall you need some more consistency your relying too heavily on Green Sun's Zenith you need to turn more of those one of's into two of's, as you don't need four of's with the Zenith but having two of's will greatly improve your consistency.
Ah yes, orings lol. Been out of magic for a year, already forgotten everything.
Yeah I do want a second Witness in this. That'll probably come from the 2x Beast Within/O-ring.
I like Garruk, but I don't want to sway too far from the theme. Yeah it relies on the Zeniths for utility, that's the whole point anyway. I'm not sure about the consistency issues yet, I'll have to test that out. But the equipment really doesn't care much what it's equipped to with Elspeth/10 Exalted creatures, so I don't think there is much worry there as long as the curve is correct and I'm able to play enough creatures when I need to.
You're right about the blue, actually originally, this deck was Bant. But I wanted to change it up. I'm taking a step back on the mana base by using vivid lands + reflecting pool to lower the power level of the deck a tad in my group. So that being said, the blue isn't going to be an issue. I'll probably drop the Trygon though since I have Silhana for "flying".
I wanted to run a Simic actually, but the last time I played mtg, I sold half my cards and Simics were part of that, and I don't feel like buying another. But besides, I'd rather run Rafiq over a fattie. Noble/Pridemage/Elspeth/Rafiq/Equipment is going to be bigger than any fattie.
I'd run another Mystic if I had one, but I don't, so that's a no go.
Depending on how creature-less you want to go, Gatekeeper of Malakir is really a staple card in this deck. Gives you an 'edict' and a body, never a dead card.
I think if you plan on playing with this for a while, you should really invest in some Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth if you can find them relatively cheap. But then between those and Cabal Coffers, it would run you up a lot. Tough choice.
I won't be playing against countermagic, so any utility creatures against blue is irrelevant in my deck. But that being said, there are obviously SO many green creatures, I really don't know everything that exists out there. So if you know anything good or just any ideas in general, let me know!
I've been looking into making a MBC deck for some time now, and some cards I wanted to run are Black Sun's Zenith, Phyrexian Obliterator, and maybe even Necropotence if your Meta is ok with you using it. :-P
Obliterators are too money for me lol.
My group wouldn't allow Necropotence, it would be a must run if your group allowed imo.
Hymn is good. But in my MBC build, I'm going to refrain from running discard. Actually tweaking it some more now. I'm going to try and wreck decks in this version now. But I have tried 4 Hymn/4 Duress/4 Thoughtseize/1 Mind Sludge build, and it was good, but I got bored of it.
Why? Chainer's Edict is sort of irreplaceable with flashback. I actually flashback a LOT, 7 mana isn't a lot. But Geth > Diabolic now lol, so that goes into my MBA =)
My last version ran Tombstalkers, which were good, but when I saw Sheoldred I was like omg I must play with this card in combination with Braids. And add to that Swampwalk with the Urborg? Awesome! Even though it is 7 mana, but damn, it would be fun. Karn looks awesome too.
Anyway, I feel like I'm so out of MTG right now that I'm really open to any suggestions and ideas you've got. So throw em out there!
Oh I also want to run Restless Apparition, seems like it would be pretty good in MBC, but I have no space. Braids and Gatekeepers are must runs for me.
UPDATE: Going for a remove cards from deck theme now. Cranial Extraction, Memoricide, Sadistic Sacrament, and Nightmare Incursion. It's too bad I can't run all of them lol. Well I can, but it'd be a little one dimensional. So I'm probably going to dedicate just 8 slots for these.
First off, I stopped playing MTG for about a year, so I know very little about the sets after Worldwake. But of course I've skimmed over the lists.
Anyway, at the moment I just want to tune my existing decks. But some interesting artifact cards have me wanting to change up one of my existing artifact deck. Namely Steel Overseer.
Keeping this deck somewhat budget. Even though I have most of these cards already.
That being said, I haven't tested this deck yet. So I've only conceptualized it in my head so I could use some suggestions if you have any ideas.
Do you think Voltaic Keys should be included? I had them in here originally, but I took them out, I'm not sure about them. Tezzeret untaps anyway.
Is there another land other than Seachrome Coast I can use? By that I mean a land that costs cheaper (in $). I also have Ancient Tombs, use them to replace Citadels perhaps? Blinkmoth Nexus any good here?
I feel like this deck would be really fast, but I also feel like I would empty my hand quickly, which was why I decided to run 8 card draw. Opinions here?
I feel like I want to run Meddling Mage here but it's not an artifact, and I don't own any anymore.
As far as the artifact creatures go, I know there's Memnite, Signal Pest, Frogmite (really don't want to run this, kinda boring), etc. I also had Etherium Sculptor in this list, but with only 16 creatures, I don't know.
Anyway, any suggestions and input is appreciated. Also if you have any other ideas for control in such a deck, I'd like to hear it.
You don't need to build around it though. It's such a 'throw in' combo. Much like PainterStone. I dunno, I kinda like them to be honest. Pulls a win out of nowhere sometimes. And let's not forget Natural Order can fetch more than Progenitus. I've gotten Rafiq with it and then attacked ftw on the same turn. Or fetch a Pridemage for a disenchant. It's been pretty darn useful. The only thing that has me considering otherwise is that drawing the Progenitus sucks (NO is still a good card even as a 1of). I'd need Brainstorm to put it back otherwise it's a dead card, only good for pitching to FoW.
I've gone down that road before, the Glare/Opposition/Dueling Grounds one. My problem with this card is that in many games they don't seem to do much. Which was really odd to me. I thought they would be incredible. Maybe it was just the wrong matchup, I could give them another shot.
But I still need to decide which build to run.

Ok I lied. Jitte is just maybe a LITTLE too good to ignore =/

I wish I could get a list of all the green utility creatures though. I'm sure there are far more than I've thought of.
spam warning.

Debating if I want to run Loxodon Warhammer though for the trample.

Staff of Domination is always fun in MBC.
I think if you plan on playing with this for a while, you should really invest in some Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth if you can find them relatively cheap. But then between those and Cabal Coffers, it would run you up a lot. Tough choice.
If you want, you could always run Magus of the Coffers, combo it off with Staff of Domination and win with the Consume Spirit or Exsanguinate.
Here's a rough deck suggestion on a budget:
3 Restless Apparition
4 Vampire Nighthawk
4 Sign in Blood
4 Innocent Blood
3 Barter in Blood
4 Consume Spirit
2 Corrupt
1 Mutilate
1 Memoricide
1 Panoptic Mirror
1 Phyrexian Arena
1 Promise of Power
3 Liliana Vess
22 Swamp
1 Umezawa's Jitte
1 Sword of Fire and Ice
1 Sword of Light and Shadow
1 Sword of Feast and Famine
2 Elspeth, Knight-Errant
4 Swords to Plowshares
3 Beast Within
4 Qasali Pridemage
3 Stoneforge Mystic
1 Gaddock Teeg
1 Jhessian Infiltrator
1 Silhana Ledgewalker
1 Trygon Predator
2 Eternal Witness
1 Dauntless Escort
1 Rhox War Monk
1 Oracle of Mul Daya
2 Rafiq of the Many
1 Acidic Slime
20 other lands

I've been playing with my MBC for some time before stopping and it was pretty much set and running very well.
Some minor updates I made has resulted in this:
4 Braids, Cabal Minion
1 Sheoldred, Whispering One
3 Chainer's Edict
2 Consume Spirit
2 Corrupt
1 Damnation
4 Sadistic Sacrament
4 Cranial Extraction
4 Phyrexian Arena
2 Nevinyrral's Disk
2 Sorin Markov
2 Liliana Vess
1 Karn Liberated
3 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
3 Cabal Coffers
19 Swamp

Here is what I've come up with at the moment:
4 Phyrexian Revoker
4 Steel Overseer
4 Master of Etherium
2 Sculpting Steel
4 Isochron Scepter
4 Silence
4 Path to Exile
4 Brainstorm
4 Thoughtcast
3 Tezzeret the Seeker
4 Seat of the Synod
4 Ancient Den
3 Darksteel Citadel
4 Seachrome Coast
1) No Mox Opals
2) No Orim's Chant
Keeping this deck somewhat budget. Even though I have most of these cards already.
