Decadent_Creed posted a message on Brawl 1v1 ChangesPosted in: The Rumor MillQuote from OKandrew »Sorry, but you all must be extremely poor to say that "Standard" isn't affordable, or what have you. Cards are at their cheapest they've ever been, aside from Multi-Format All-Stars like Karn, Teferi, etc. So, yeah, I am glad those cards are $30+ dollars, because otherwise, the game would be completely worthless from a collectors point of view. Especially someone who is buying Boxes at $90+ a pop. You people who can't afford to play with that cost basis, really shouldn't be playing Magic at all, and should maybe re-evaluate your lives, and possibly consider getting a better job/second job, because Magic is clearly NOT what you should be doing with your spare time, if that's the way you look at it in your budget...

FlossedBeaver posted a message on Promos: Vampiric Tutor & Nin, the Pain ArtistIt's okay if you don't like the art for a given card. It's okay to say you don't like the art for a given card. It's not okay to ignore all context to justify your thorough lack of objectivity. I mean, there's some pretty obvious precedent for tutor artwork, but it seems as though everyone slept through class while their teacher was showing them how to cite evidence. Has anyone here even played this game for more than a year? A quick history lesson:Posted in: The Rumor Mill
1) Beardo here is waxing contemplative over what appears to be a prune. He's gonna teach you about the local wildlife.
2) Sparkles?!? Enchantment! This happy, wizened gal just wants to show you how to party. Rowwwr.
3) Nothing screams 'arcane arts' like a couple of dense tomes and a single, menacing skull. The look in her eyes says 'I can show you things'; the look on her lips says 'somebody hand me that prune.'
Which brings us to contestant #4, our new friend from Ixalan. I get that some people like things on the nose - like, right on the nose, it seems - which must make anything more cerebral than a Deadpool film awfully hard to follow, but come on. It's pretty obvious that he's a pasty conquistador, which tells you everything you need to know about his outlook on [un]life. So what do all four cards have in common? Random duders surrounded by the tools of their trade, all the trappings that prove them to be subject matter experts in their respective fields. If the newest addition to this cycle doesn't qualify as a tutor, then I don't know what does. Pretending that you can't tell he's a vampire smacks of willful obstinance, but who am I to judge? I spend my free time gnawing through wood. -

The flavor isn't doing it for me but this is a reasonable attempt that will play well in the environment you have described.
Next week please focus on your top-down skills while retaining the elegant mechanical approach. -

They actually mention in the interview that Sanderson coordinated with Wizards Creative to fill a hole in their new character pipeline. Davriel is definitely getting a card in the next few years.

In before Tiro actually hates this card because it's not exactly what he imagined Arixmethes being.

This should be trademarked as the Rumor Mill's official tagline.

Me personally, I'd like to see them do more of what they did in Planechase and show us snapshots of the larger Multiverse from planes that maybe aren't deep enough to carry a whole set. Part of what makes The Mimeoplasm so cool is that it's a hook for Muraganda, a plane we're honestly probably never going to fully see. I would much rather get some rando from Kaldheim or Equilor and learn something new about those places, rather than get another dork from Zendikar who showed up in a flavor text once (sorry Bruse).
Of course, I'm also aware that Magic isn't made for an audience of me and only me alone, so I don't gretch every time a card gets spoiled that doesn't cater to my specific tastes.
