Here's the thing about character design: if it's not immediately obvious who your character is, it's a bad piece of character artwork. The fact that this thread is even necessary at all pretty much rules out this being any known character, let alone Narset.

So, something they've clearly been setting up for years is growing infighting inside the guilds. As far back as Family Values (or earlier?), we've gotten bits and pieces of stories about in-guild conflicts:

-Teysa plotting against the Ghost Dads.
-Vraska and Mazirek's coup against Jarad.
-Ral working for Bolas behind Niv-Mizzet's back.
-Feather getting stuck in a bubble and Aurelia taking over.

I can't imagine all of these doesn't add up. Seems like a fair assumption that they're dissolving the guilds when Bolas nullifies the Guildpact and we get all-out war.

There are four oldwalkers mentioned in this story and every single one of them is a colossal ass.

Let's hold off judgment on Azor for more than two lines of dialogue. But I'm not optimistic.

All I'm saying is "I'm gonna read the gorgon's mind and immediately needle her about her PTSD" is not the friendliest version of hello.

Oh, sorry for the serious reply above. Didn't realize Rancor Crank is a recurring joke, seems to post once on the best card in each set (Search for Azcanta, Fetchlands, Brimaz) with the same "Maybe in limited, never in constructed, waiting for REAL spoilers" schtick. I hadn't seen it before so I didn't know it was a scripted comedy act I was heckling.

The fact that someone takes the bait every single time is half of what makes Rancor Crank funny. You've contributed to a proud legacy, friendo.

Guys, there are plenty of playable dinos outside of a dino deck that can effectively make this Rampant Growth. Yeah, we aren't getting Rampant Growth in Standard anytime soon (if ever), but we just gotta make peace with it, like Bolt never coming back to Standard.

I'm perfectly okay with this card existing; development needs will always wax and wane, and right now ramp is powered down. That's all cool.

What I don't understand, otoh, is why they decided this card was worth a preview?

...Nothing gets me excited for an upcoming set like a strictly-worse Rampant Growth.

And the cards are numbered in order of the deck, Vraska first then Angrath, and there is no cards slot for a land in the numbering

This is the information I needed. Fair enough. It seems very strange that they'd do this in this situation.

Somewhere in this thread someone made the point of Teferi needing 'some other way' to gain a new spark. I was just catching up on the Amonkhet story - and in it Samut gains a spark from Hazoret after she saves her. There's nothing in the story to suggest Samut was born with a spark - it happened after she saved Hazoret. This suggests there are other ways to become sparked other than being born with it (Karn being able to be given them by other planeswalkers seems an exception since he's not really a living creature).

You definitely misread that. The spark ignites during a moment of great emotional intensity; Samut's came from the pride of being acknowledged by her God. She was born with a dormant one, same as anybody else.

Seeing your signature picture i ask myself. Has the Symbol on Karns Chest changed?

Now that you mention it, in direct comparison to his last appearance, it really looks different.

Still looks like the same 3C^ to me; this artist just gave him a bit more defined pectorals than normal, so it's split down the middle.

Unless he actually has a crack in his chest now where Venser put the new heart in?

Who says Azor lost his spark, anyway? All the artbook says is that he imbued the Sun with his spark's power and that he's not immune to its effects. Doesn't mean he burnt the thing out.

I could see Jace/Lavinia working too, but most likely their respective stations would prohibit such an affair, or would certainly make the whole arrangement look very shady. People would assume the Azorius are getting favored simply because one of their officers is in bed with the Guildpact; classic political scandal.

I can only imagine that when Jace finally makes it back to Ravnica and the whole plane is literally on fire because the Guildpact went MIA for months, Lavinia's first instinct is not gonna be "yo jace dtf?".
