Kelzam posted a message on Twenty things that were going to kill Magic. Before I exit from the discussion in this thread, let me make this clear: No one has anything to fear about posting their opinions. But, if you have a reputation for posting here solely for the sake of complaining about the game in nearly every post you make on a fansite, then don't be surprised if you're called out on it eventually.Posted in: Magic General -

Savage Dream Lord posted a message on [[Official]] Reserved List DiscussionPosted in: Magic GeneralQuote from ValarinPushing Legacy would cost Hasbro money. If Legacy staples got reprinted to the level of affordability, who would play Modern/Standard anymore?
They want players on the round robin of Standard. Not the "Buy a deck and never spend $$ on MTG again" train of eternal formats.
For the record, I have now met two entire play-groups that are completely off the grid. They play Magic regularly but don't buy cards, visit forums, go to hobby shops, &c. They both play with old Type 1 rules. I got into a rules argument with one player when I discovered that they weren't aware of the 6th edition rules update and were using batches and playing Interrupts as Interrupts :o. One guy had a Legacy deck full of duals and pimpness who commented that he didn't know new sets were still being printed and he had never seen cards with the new frame before. Then he whupped me 2 matches in a row without using sleeves.
This is exactly what Wizards doesn't want. These people are clearly fans of the game but haven't given a dime to WOTC in over 15 years. They already have everything they want/need out of the game. -

I'm also not surprised Hasbro would allow WOTC to willfully cost them money,

Spiritmongoose posted a message on FtV, MM, Mythics, and Jace, College TuitionPosted in: Magic GeneralQuote from Georg51You don't need premium product to stay competitive. That's what makes all of this so silly.....
There's nothing FTV sets that you can't find elsewhere for cheaper.
Agreed.
Apparently just because some people can't have something, they believe nobody should be able to have it.
All of these cards are available outside of premium products AND i'd like to add that the release of these premium products actually DECREASES the prices of the regular cards, making those cards MORE accessible to players on a budget.
...sooooo yeah I have no idea why anyone would ever whine about this. -

Galspanic posted a message on [[Official]] Legacy Huge Gainers...Simply stating a price change that doesn't actually need to be relevant at all since they are a small piece of the big picture. My initial response was just to point out that, while SCG bumped their prices, there are still tons of places where they haven't moved more than $2 in weeks. This is a "Huge Gainers" thread. Pointing out SCG's price is irrelevant to the topic when 93% of the market hasn't flinched. Once the rest of the world feels that it's worth more than it was a week ago, it might be worth talking about though.Posted in: Market Street Café Archive -

Sillia posted a message on Prices SkyrocketingPosted in: Market Street CaféQuote from SolonWaveI will say it again, if you want a healthy format for all you gotta make the staples available for the people to get at reasonable prices. Someone who really wants to play bob and goyf and doesnt have them is sol because they are too high. All i want is reasonably priced staples like bob and goyf and clique. It is insane to pay 150.00$ or 80$ for one card that you need 4 of in a deck to play! Its not healthy for the format!
That depends on how you define "healthy". Everyone not getting to play the deck they want in the format they want because of prices doesn't mean a format is unhealthy. Assigning certain arbitrary dollar value cutoffs doesn't really help define it. If $80 is insane, is $60 insane? Is $50 insane? If $50 for a 4-of format-staple card is insane, standard is clearly an unhealthy format. What is it about paying an extra $20-30 for a card that makes it go from acceptable to insane to you? That doesn't make sense to me. There's no hard cutoff that applies to everyone. It's a sliding scale of acceptability that varies with the person, and that's best explained via the demand curve.
To me, a healthy format is one that has strong, steady growth over time. By that metric, Legacy seems pretty healthy to me. Modern currently seems pretty healthy as well, despite the $150/$80 staple cards for certain specific decks. If anything, I actually look at the prices on the secondary market as an indicator of the health of the format. If the format was unhealthy (as in the number of people who play it is regularly diminishing), the prices would fall because there would be fewer people who want to buy them. -

davepalumbo posted a message on "Altered Print" Cardsto share some first hand info, I am a magic artist and have discovered my work being used illegally on several cards in the Alter Prints inventory. I would not speak directly for anybody else, though I do have many friends who have also found work of theirs being used without their knowledge or consent. So far I've only heard from a few people who actually had granted permission, most others (myself included) were completely unaware. Right now things are very muddy and it is possible that the new owners were ignorant of their illegal activity which at the least indicates a significant failure in confirming the legitimacy of the assets they were purchasing. If this is the case, I have yet to see any compelling proof. Some of the artwork (not mine) is actually owned by major gaming companies who never sub-license. As to my own pieces, most were personal works and all are piece which I am the sole copyright owner. To the best of my knowledge, my own work is being removed from their inventory. I hope that the new owners will clean out the inventory and rebuild it with legitimately purchased artwork, but until that happens, a large portion (to say the least) of these are being sold without compensation to or knowledge by the rightful owners of the artwork.Posted in: Artwork

Completely agree with your first statement. A lot of collectors don't post which I find is a pity.
The "best collection" is always in the eye of the beholder. While I see what time and money you put in your collection (fantastic) Occam it's not something I'd want to collect. The same goes for all the people collecting Japanese/Korean/German/Russian Foils...It does nothing for me and I would never ever consider buying such cards...And I am completely aware that what I do is considered a crime against humanity by certain people (getting Alpha/Beta cards signed). But I don't collect for them I collect for me.
Everybody's collection should be their favorite. If you have achieved this then you have the best collection. There must be thousands of those "best collections" out there.

And here is a complete "run down" of this card that I have.

With the 3 new Betas I am down to 61 outstanding signed Beta cards to have a 100% signed playset (one can dream).
BTW: Based on my post last week (Lorwyn set that need 1 more signed card). I was contacted by someone who has the missing card. It is currently on its way....Wow!

Getting foiled cards signed is not really a problem. A bit more careful than with non foil until the ink dries and then it's 100% okay.

Was finally able to finish my Alpha duals today (Thanks Paul!)...But rather than showing just my signed Alpha Duals I thought it would be nice to show all my duals (110 at the moment) in one go:
Alpha:
Beta:
Unlimited:
Revised:
and here is another special treat...A official Wasteland versions signed by the artist:

There is no Denise. It's Dennis. On the The Dark cards his name was misspelled.
Your sigs look legit.

There are still some cards that are on their way and the scanning is one hell of a job.
Trying to finish the 13-version by Mid December.
