The Empire is supposed to be the most horrific and oppressive regime ever established in human history. #grimdark.

I mean... the Imperium of Man is basically a universal sized Nazi Germany with Adolf Hitler hooked up to life support on a golden throne.
    Thanks for the answers!

I don't know much about WH 40K, it had just been my impression that between Tyrranids, Chaos Gods, Necrons, (Dark) Eldar, Orcs etc. the Imperium were the next best thing to the "Good Guys."

But as someone pointed out in another thread, there are no Good Guys in WH 40K... There is only war.

Yeah no good guys. Tyranids are the closest because they go entirely on instinct and therefore by psychological definition can't be "evil".

Beings you given nids a pass then you also owe it to da Orks. Da boyz dun do anything they weren't grown ta do. Ain't their fault da stupid humies don't understand theys tasty or have a proper brutal sense o jokes.

Yeah, they're a close 2nd. Their lust for battle being a choice doesn't look good, but they're practically angels compared to nearly everyone else.

Man, 40k aesthetics are so unpleasant. The "good guys" are even uglier and more unsympathetic than the bad guys.

Wait chaos, tyranids and necrons are more sympathetic to you than empire?
    Interesting take for sure

Tyranids are probably the most sympathetic of all 40k races since they're driven almost entirely by instinct as an invasive predator species. The Imperium of Man are basically space nazis, the Tau are every bad stereotype about communists rolled into one, the Eldar are hyper-douche space elves who started all the problems, the Dark Eldar are the same, but proud of the latter, Chaos are just violence junkies, Necrons are pure death machines, and the Orks are... well Orks.

Can't wait for this to exist in 6-10 months when I can actually play it.

What do you mean? Wizards already said the cards won't be getting functional reprints.

I am pumped to put this in Teysa tokens, if for no other reason than to kill my friend with it who mains Imperial Guard in the tabletop.

I just picture Avacyn and the angels of Innistrad looking up and going "Aw phooey" before being utterly vaporized.

This one looks like an Angel.

Living Saints aren't angels. Just humans who extreme devotion to the God-Emperor Of Mankind gave them supernatural abilities from The Warp.

Another Phoenix for Syrix tribal. Makes the curve a little bit less of a screaming nightmare.

It'll be an oddly cute foil.

I would be shocked beyond words if Liliana ends up on Phyrexia's team. My guess is her infection will be the test case for whatever plot relevant cure the heroes think of.

Did it really need both "non-token" AND "once per turn" on the draw effect?

Other than that, it's another of the long line of creatures that get played, the table sighs, someone kills it, and the game moves on. Kill on sight before it wrecks the table. At least in normal EDH. It is unplayable in cEDH but then again 99.999999% of all cards are.

My first thought was "I prefer Seb's art" which is often the case, but McKinnon sounds like he's possibly problematic with some of his beliefs. Potentially. I only know he was really into the freedom truck convoy thing at one point early on, but I long ago lost track of the thread. In any case, folks that can't (or won't, which is fair) separate the art from the artist can use an alternate card now, which is a good thing.

I can't understand how seb supporting people not wanting to get vaccinated would vilify him. In a world where we fight so hard for freedoms that don't make sense - to want the freedom to not be a guinea pig for pharmaceuticals seems like one that should be lauded and not criticized.

Maybe because it is the most scrutinized and tested vaccine since the Polio vaccine? People saying "it hasn't been tested enough" are denying the science, and it is almost always a cover for "I hate government involvement in the lives of people at every level".

People are allowed to have personal beliefs and opinions (however irrational, misguided, or fear-induced), and while we may not all agree with their politics, it's important to separate the art from the artist.

Seb is an incredible artist (he's also a musician) and has made many positive, irreplaceable contributions to this game. I for one appreciate his hard work, and personally couldn't care less what he thinks of truckers protesting or vaccines. It's completely irrelevant to how he should be judged as an artist.

Also, I'd like to point out that of all the artists I've met at events for signings, he was the only one who refused cash for signatures despite the fact that I had a decent stack of cards to get signed (regardless, he said he only charges for alterations), and insisted that I either spend what I offered him on more cards or give it to other artists who were there instead. That being said, I certainly look forward to seeing him again eventually (if/when Magicfest ever returns) to get many of his newer cards from the past few years signed as well.

I have zero problem with people expressing their opinion, as incorrect as his may be. It is when people use their platform to deny or deprive others of rights that I draw the line. Helping to spread misinformation about vaccines and risking the lives of the elderly, the very young, and the immunocompromised can certainly be a line that Wizards of the Coast can judge. I don't know enough about Seb's situation to say one way or the other.

This was weak even 10 years ago. No idea what wotc had in mind when they designed this and put it in the same deck as Kaalia

Considering how weak the original decks were, I think Kaalia was way more out of line power wise than Tariel was.

    FIRST LEGENDARY PHOENIX!!!

    LET'S F**KING GO!!!!

A little unhappy I have to get R/B duals for the deck in foil, but it's worth it to finally have a legendary Phoenix. The fact that it is somewhat playable is just icing on the cake.
