Yeah, I guess, but some people are like "If you're not playing this exact copy of some pro's list then you're just a noob, and you shouldn't play magic." or "Don't bother running this deck unless you run four Tarmogoyf, noob!" Then there are those people who don't read where you are trying to go with a certain deck, and they end up suggesting something that would take you in a completely different direction. Oh well, like you said, I could just ignore them. Thanks again for your help.

Thanks, testing grounds, right! The only thing is what if I don't want others posting onto my thread - can I keep them out, or at least from posting?

My sig is getting a bit crowded with my decks. I would like to learn how to do the "show/hide" button for this, for quotes, etc... Also, I am considering creating a seperate thread somewhere so I can do the [deck [/deck thing for all of my decks, but don't know where I should do this. I know I've seen other people have this before with a link to it.

Any help provided would be greatly appreciated - and I know you will, everyone in this forum works wonders. Thanks in advance!

1.) If I have two Bramblewood Paragons in play and I play another warrior does it get two +1/+1 counters?

2.) After my opponent attacks me with his guys, but before I declare my blockers I play Gilt-Leaf Ambush. Do we immediately do the clash to see if the two 1/1 G elf warriors get deathtouch, or do I have to declare whether or not I will be blocking with them first?

2a.) Ok, in the previous situation, if we tie on the clash, do we do it again or do I just lose?

Thanks in advance for any help. I'm just a noob who would like to make sure he knows the ins and outs of his new deck before taking it to FNM.

Merfolk are good, and the only expensive cards are not going to rotate out, and will definitely continue to be used, so why not?

I disagree, Lord of Atlantis is a critical part that will go.

I think R/G Mana Ramp is the best deck, you only are a Bye against Reveillark and QnT, you can win against all the other decks.

That could be, but this also will be hurt alot by rotation. WoR, Siege-gang Commander, all the snow-stuff, and the Goyf will all be casualties when Shards of Alara arrives.

I just built this deck, and I'm planning on taking it to FNM. I've been doing some testing and have made a few observations.

1.) I always seem to want to play Nettle Sentinel turn 1 if I have it (over Llanowar Elves or Heritage Druid). Is this the right move?
2.) Turn 2 I would prefer to play Heritage Druid and another 1 drop to get 3 elves on the board, but Bramblewood Paragon seems to be second choice (over Vanquisher or Wolf-Skull Shaman - which I'm running as a 3 of knowing full well it's not part of the typical build).
3.) Is 3 Overruns the right number; I don't seem to be getting it as often as I'd like, but I'm definitely afraid to run it as a 4 of.
4.) Sideboard: Guttural Response comes in from the side against Fae and Merfolk for Overrun, pump effects, etc... Vigor comes in vs. RDW, Ramp, other Aggro - including the mirror - for Overrun. Grip comes in vs. Lark, maybe Fae? Obviously, Squall Line comes in against Fae.

So am I right, wrong, partially right/wrong, etc..? Any other important info on the playing of the deck I MUST know before taking it into the fire would be greatly appreciated.

Also other decks that will stay are the B/G elves (i dont think there is a card that rotates out in october).

Whoa! Not a card? Try Tarmogoyf. However, I agree that the archtype will stay mostly intact.

    Quote from roussos »
Doran deck or the various Rock decks will also stay because other than ohran viper ( which is in doran only) all other card will stay in type 2.

Umm...Once again you are overlooking Goyf.

The thing is, the Goyf is in many competitive decks, and all of them will lose him. It's just a matter of which can find satisfactory replacements. For example, it seems many BG Elves players are considering Talara's Battalion, Bramblewood Paragon, or just uping existing cards to playsets. None of these is going to take the place of the Goyf, but I think they will do a fine job of keeping the deck Tier 1 along with UB Faeries and other decks based heavily in Lorwyn and Shadowmoor Blocks.

What you should really consider is what else (other staples of the archtype that arn't really shared amoung many decks) might you be losing. If alot, like in the situation of RG Ramp, you had better hope for a big boost in Shards of Alara or you're in trouble.

  • posted a message on Flavor Text - Elves, Lorwyn/Shadowmoor Blocks?
Sorry if this isn't the appropriate place to discuss this, but I really couldn't find another forum that I thought it fit as well in. I have not read the books. The following is what I have gathered so far from the flavor text:

Elves in Lorwyn and Morningtide seem to all live in the Gilt-Leaf Forest. More specifically they live in a place called Lys Alana (some sort of central city in the forest I guess). There are multiple Gilt-Leaf Palaces, the greatest of which is called "Dawn's Light." Wren's Run is also a place in the forest. In Shadowmoor and Eventide the elves seem to still live in the forest, but they seem to be trying to turn it into a fortress (wooded bastion) of sorts.

Elvish society is hierarchical based primarily on beauty. Castes exist with "faultless and immaculate" classes at the bottom, the "exquisite" above them, and the "perfect" at the top. Eidren was a perfect of Lys Alana and possible leader of all elves in the past. Desmera might be a current perfect. (How many perfects are there?) Many different occupations/positions (warriors, archers, bowmasters, winnowers, elites, hunters, huntmasters, packmasters, seers, druids, archdruids, magistrates, artists, doyans, paragons(?), shamans, wizards, etc...) seem to exist within the society, many of which seem designated for defensive purposes (keeping the uglies out of the woods). In Shadowmoor and Eventide the elvish society seems to have become more warlike, with knights, cavaliers, dragoons, sentries, etc... being recruited in large numbers to battle eyeblights - both evil inside and , it would seem, outside of the forest.

So am I right, wrong, sort of right/wrong on any of this? Any details you could add to shape out my picture of how elves and elvish society is in these blocks?

I think it's a bit of a toss-up between Talara's Battalion and Wren's Run Vanquisher. They both put alot of pressure on an opponent early - maybe TB moreso. Vanquisher is slightly better late game. Overextending? Yeah, TB will do that, but that seems to be how this deck runs - and wins! Why don't we just wait until the dust clears and the hype (and backlash) regarding TB dies down a bit to see which really is "better." Just my opinion.

I don't have any experience playing these swarm decks but i have to ask in what way is heritage druid superior to devoted druid?

    Turn 1: Forest, Nettle Sentinel
Turn 2: Forest, Swing for 2 with Sentinel, 2nd main phase - Heritage Druid (Sentinel untaps), Nettle Sentinel/Llanowar Elves, tap all 3 for GGG drop Vanquisher/Paragon + Nettle Sentinel/Llanowar Elves or Imperious Perfect/Elvish Champion/Gaea's Anthem/etc... (and by the way, any Nettle Sentinels that were tapped, untapped when you played your most recent spell and are ready and waiting to be tapped for more mana).

It is possible with Heritage Druid to get your whole hand out turn 2, and likely to get it out turn 3.

Turn 3: Forest, Any creatures you haven't played yet, Bigger spells like Hunting Triad/Elvish Promenade - maybe even something like Vigor.
Turn 4: Forest, Better expect Overrun FTW!

Seems like a deadly fast start to me. Ok, that being said, they could have killed your Heritage Druid as soon as they saw his face, stopping all of these games, but the same could happen to Devoted Druid. I'm not saying that the latter is a bad card, I'm saying that Heritage Druid, especially Heritage Druid + Nettle Sentinel, is wicked fast!

Your list looks pretty good. I only have a few suggestions:

1.) Drop the four Boreal Druids for four Nettle Sentinels, they work great with Heritage Druid and are now played in most of the post-Eventide mono G Elf-Ball lists.

2.) Talara's Battalion vs. Wren's Run Vanquisher is a real toss-up. I prefer the Vanquisher personally, and if you don't already have the Talara's Battalions maybe you should wait till the dust clears and the hype dies down because right now they're like $10 each, compared to like $1 each for the Vanquishers.

3.) In this deck Overrun > Garruk Wildspeaker.

Yeah, the extra turn can make a big difference. Really though, Wrath is timeless. Besides, the idea of someone just being able to re-search for the stuff I just got rid of is frightening - that's why O-Ring makes me nervous, the idea of the thing I just dealt with coming back, scary.

  • posted a message on Cheap decks?
Yeah, RDW and G Elf-Ball are pretty reasonable. I would say you could get them for less than $80 no problem. RG Aggro and Ramp are not that bad either. If you don't want to get started on an expensive deck that you won't be able to complete without spending lots of money avoid WU Merfolk, GB Elves, UB Faeries, and especially GBW Doran Rock, which you will have to take out a loan on to afford - seriously though, no joke!

Could someone break down the various match-ups for this deck and explain why? Ex: RG Aggro, slightly favorable because we have similar size guys and speed, but better removal. Faeries, slightly unfavorable because etc...

    Thanks.
