All of this background D&D lore stuff is wayyyy beyond me. I enjoy reading about it
I wish there was as much depth in MTG's lore as there is for D&D...

D&D itself doesn't really have lore, but some specific places/settings do like Baldur's Gate, Dragonlance, and more.
I'm more familiar with the Dragonlance setting than Baldur's Gate. I can thank the countless bus rides between my house and college reading the Dragons of Autumn Twilight series for that wealth of flavourful knowledge

The collective lore of all MtG settings combined is a kiddy pool compared to the Forgotten Reams.
Well yeah, D&D's been around a lot longer than MTG, and MTG got its inspiration from D&D. Not sure what the point here is...

You'd be surprised at how many folks don't realize that, like I've folks when CLB was first announced be like how are they going to find enough major characters for this set and I'm just laughing my ass off because you could make 50 Commander Legend Forgotten Realms sets and barely scratch the surface.
Interestingly enough the Forgotten Realms is older then D&D in the sense that Ed Green would started building the setting and maps abd stuff back in the 60-70s's (this might be why there is so many naked Goddesses and sex in FR) and then TSR bought the setting off of Ed back in the 80's for dirt cheap.
And made it a shared world setting and hafit devour a few other settings so the lore just grows and growa.
Just to confirm, these were accidently placed in CLB Collector boosters? If this is even reasonable common for Whale Bait 2022 cards to appear in CLB collector boxes, that could be very, very interesting ramifications.
Looks like folks might be wrong about no chase cards in CLB, LMFAO.
WOAH! Of all the items for them to print! How long has it been since we had a reference to real-world mythology religion? Arabian nights?
Its not even the first time for this set, I believe Invoker of Silvanus or Battle Angels of Tyr is (Silvanus is a Roman God, Tyr Norse, FR uses some real world Gods, unlike most none metasetting settings).
I am convinced for creature types, they have a list and just want to have any combination to appear somewhere.
Elephant Angel ...
Its actually an important character in descent into Avernus, Lulu the Hollyphant. Hollyphant are basically Elphant celestials, so Angel Elephants makes sense.
Dude's so asking to be sued for this. Wasn't he also planning to sell this stuff for cheaper than most places sell it?
No, the set has 361 cards in the main part of the set, some of the cards we've seen (at least 3) are from the Commander Decks, a few are just different art styles of the same card, two are from the list, and I think 2 make be fakes he put in to jazz up the his sales pitch (Wrathful Dragon and Wyll's Reversal don't look like the rest and according to The Magic Historian, a couple were faked to make the boosters look more exciting).
All together of the 361 we have maybe a third, roughly, and only one none Commander Deck part Mythic, Nautiliod Ship.
So after watching the weekly MTG stream on this I think that it sort of leans toward my theory on what the replacement to partner will be. Blake said there will be no new partners in the set so I think there will be a new two card mechanic to mix and match races and classes. For example.
Elf Person 1G
Legendary Creature - Elf
Keyword for theoretical mechanic
2/2
Shaman Class thing +RU
This card begins the game attached to a commander you control with the Keyword for theoretical mechanic and remains attached in all zones.
Character gains the Shaman class
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery each creature that shares a creature type with your commander get +1/+1 and ward 1.
+1/+1
So they'd combine and this would be your commander.
Elf Person 1RGU
Legendary Creature - Elf Shaman
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery each creature that shares a creature type with your commander get +1/+1 and ward 1.
3/3
I'm probably explaining this really clunkily but the idea is you're creating a character like you would in Dungeons and Dragons. I'm sorry if this delves into the territory of dreamcard making but it's an idea that's been floating in my head for a while as a replacement for partner in this set.
It appears you might not be far off, not mentioned in the stream, but accidently revealed by packaging are Background Cards, which are "powerful" cards that allow you to customize legendary creatures.
Speculation is that Background cards are what replaces Partner. My guess is they are powerful Auras Enchantments that only attach to Legendary Creatures, and certain Legendary Creatures in CLB will have a key word that allows them to pick a Background to join them in the Command Zone, with the Background adding it's colour to the Commander. Cast the Background from the Command Zone and if it gets destroyed or exiled it just goes back to the Command Zone, where it can be recast. Or when chosen by a Commander, it adds a cost to the Commander and is automatically cast when the Commander is and attached.
Backgrounds are a mechanic in 5e D&D and includes stuff like Acolyte, Knight, Noble, Hermit, Sage, Outlander, Veteran, Mercanary, Dragon Cultist, Urchin, Pirate, Spy, Sailor, Merchant, Folk Hero, Artisan, Vigilanty, Guard, Gladiator, Criminal, etc...
I think it'd be cool if some of them give lord abilities. It'd be funny to make a noble tribal deck. I'm so excited to see what it's like.
If it does I think it will invovle batching of creature types
They're really letting just anybody be a planeswalker now.
In a very technical sense Minsc is a Planeswalker actually, he's been to the Demiplane of Dread in the Shadowfell, he's been to Hell and back, and more.

It protects itself so that whales can stop complaining the CLB doesn't have enough broken staple chase cards in it LMFAO.
