I know that when I was a new player a year or so ago, this would have been great for me. However, it is overpriced because I remember buying roughly 1000 cards on ebay for about 15 dollars. But when you're starting out, you really don't know what to buy, so this is really a great purchase.
That sounds nothing like this cube. Having awful cards be "good" is not really related to not having rares.
I wasn't saying that it was. I was just making the comparison that drafting with non-rares got me wanting to do it more. I was actually contemplating making a cube but as luck would have it, someone has beat me to it (not entirely surprised) and now I can use this cube as a starting point.
Almost EVERYONE was surprised at the announcement, because there were other nominated candidates who had done meaningful things to work toward the goals of the NPP.
Really? Like who? What did they do that would put them above Obama for the prize? I'm honestly curious, because like I said it's not as though I follow the race for the Nobel Peace Prize actively and know who the front runner were. Hell, I had no idea that Obama was even nominated or when the prize was going to be announced. I just happened to see that he won it and felt a sense of pride that I saw an American president win the prize in my lifetime. Not everyone can say that. I for one, as much as I hated him, would not complain if McCain had one and gotten the prize. I would feel the same way. It's awesome that an American president came away with the prize. You have to do something in order to get the prize. To say he has done nothing is ridiculous.
I've not really read much of this thread, but pretty much the gist of what I read it what I've read on so many other forums. So for those of you that don't think Obama deserves it, who do you think should have gotten it? Yeah, I'm pretty sure 99% of the people asked this question that complain about Obama getting it cannot answer this question.
And people seem to think that he's only getting it because of what he's done as president. Well while that has definitely had a big influence on it, a lot of you seem to forget that he was a senator prior to being president and a very good one at that. Hence the reason the democrats saw fit to nominated him to run for president.
Then of course there are people here that say "He's talking about doing this and that but hasn't done it yet so why does he get it for something that's not been completed?" Well, didn't MLK Jr win the award and all he did really was give a speech and fight for equal rights? Isn't this what Obama is doing. Giving a speech and fighting for what he believes in? What's the difference? Just because you don't see or notice a change, doesn't mean there isn't a change or that he hasn't fought towards a change.
The man completely deserves this award. More than any of the other nominations? I'm not sure, I cannot say. But don't say he hasn't done anything, because he sure as hell has.
Love love LOVE the idea. I've really gotta get this idea going myself. Always wanted to make a cube and I think a no rare cube would just be tons of fun.
We just randomly drafted packs that I threw together with another guy without reading what cards went into the packs. Went very well. Some cards were so bad that they would be a 15th pick in a normal draft ended up being like a 3rd or 4th pick in this draft.
It's a review I wrote up on boardgamegeek and would like to know what you guys think. It's written for MtG players, so what better place to show MtG players, but on here?
If by "proxies" you mean gold-bordered cards and Collector's Edition, then yes those are legal for EDH.
I can't really speak for everyone else about other proxies though, so that will just come down to what the majority of the group says. Usually, one or two are fine if you just ask, but don't be that guy with half his deck written on basic lands.
Bob and I were the only ones that played EDH a while back. Been a while since I would regularly go to FNM, so not sure if that changed or not, but since it was just us to I didn't work on getting together an EDH deck and he let me proxy pretty much any card. Especially since I printed cards off the computer and sleeved them up.
I'll put together a non-proxy deck (save for a few important cards) and then bring a proxied up one and see what people say.
I would say that targeted removal is better in more situations than edicts. Though I would still find room for Chainer's Edict cause flashback is pretty good.
I'm married and 35 and we play Euro Board Games 2-3 times a week with my friends ($50 one time cost for a game you'll play for years? Awesome!). MTG is another story...
I'm much the same way as you now. I was heavily into MTG and now I'm more into board games. Euro and Ameritrash and the occasional Wargame. I used to spend a lot of time on this site, now I'm on Boardgamegeek.com more.
But yeah, the reason I've gone away from Magic is just how competitive it is and how some people are so rude. I prefer a casual fun game and board games have become that outlet. So lucky to have found a new hobby like this. The only problem is getting enough people together for a fun game night.
Nope. There was a purple in every pack (essentially another rarity). Also Time Spiral in gneeral did well because it was a good set which followed up a Good block, so people wanted to play.
I wasn't making the rarity comparison between the two. Just the fact you can open old cards in a new set. I was just making the assumption that old school players were excited once again to open up an Akroma or any other great card from back in the day. The only real differences here is that TSP cards were type-2 legal and these cards in Zendikar packs are big money cards and will show up a lot less in packs. Still, the fun factor of getting that awesome old school card has to appeal to a lot of players, right? Just a small observation on my part.
Honestly, I think he means about 'unspoiled' ZEN cards.
Especially considering his phrasing. (Article was written days ago.)
While I can agree this is happening, WoTC hit it out of the park with this, because they knew even IF someone opened one, people wouldn't believe them online. (lo and behold) This is the sort of thing that will make prereleases very interesting.
The only question now is...are they doing this for the entire printing of the set?
I just got a PM from another member who opened a box after seeing this thread.
He got TWO. Bayou and Lion's Eye Diamond.
Didn't Time Spiral do well because of the chance you would get a purple? I started playing after Tenth, so I wasn't around for all that hype. I assume it was a big deal for long time players and they got excited. This is pretty close to that in a way, I guess.
I've been joking with my friends as each awesome rare gets spoiled that Wizards is just going to start shipping Zendikar boxes filled with cash instead of packs. Little did I know how true this really was...
That's about as close as you can get, I guess. It somewhat acknowledges that they are doing this. Two weeks, though? These cards are going to be public knowledge tomorrow during the pre-release and they're waiting that long to say something. =\
Damnation because having the option to clear the board is never a bad thing.
Spiritmonger is a good card. Not entirely sure, but I think this was the basis for the initial Rock deck.
If you splash white, you will have a lot of other options available to you.
Kicker cost is return two islands to your hand. If the kicker cost was paid, draw two cards then discard two cards.
Something like this?

I really wish I could make it to a pre-release.
