so this is actually a Modern Deck. its for competitive play, but the people over in the Modern section are douches....i never get any constructive suggestions, mostly just "you should make it more like one of these other decks that already exists"
I love the people here in casual[forum] because you have such a deep well of unorthodox card suggestions.

What do people think about lightning angel in this deck? Has anyone tried her?
Advantages: 4 toughness, and she holds off weenies while being a threat in the air. Great against delver and vendilion clique. Also great for nostalgia!
Hi, I'm just wondering what everyone's opinion is on running a budget version of this deck -liliana.
Doing without thoughtseize is not such a big deal, since your alternatives are at least comparable. But liliana is so much more powerful than anything like it that I can understand if this deck looses competativeness without her.
Note that Gravecrawler with Crack the Earth, while playable, is worse than sinkhole. Both cost 2 mana total, but Crack the Earth lets your opponent sac a creature if they got one. Still fine, but giving your opponent options is no bueno. (Sinkholes pretty bad to begin with, anyhow.)
To remedy the mana cost, perhaps an Entomb + Boodgahst direction would be better. Not running Gravecrawler will allow us to run less creatures, going more for control than aggro, and thus allow us enough creature removal to clear our opponents board so (hopefully) Crack the Earth gets one of their lands.
p.s. Flagstones of Trokier and Flickerwhisp make the case for white pretty good.
I think Bloodghast could be cool here, since you could just not pay the taxing effect from Nether Void and the landfall them into play. Also abusing Blood Funnel to drop taxing pieces while sacrificing Bloodghasts and/or Nether Traitors could work to mitigate the taxing from the Void on your end.
Bloodghast + Blood Funnel is genus! or could be. The deck would have to change a lot to work with these cards. Will test.
I think you need more removal here, since this does seem like a pretty basic Stax-type of a deck, which has serious problems with multiple threats entering the table really fast. I've tried playing stax against tokens on several occasions and it just hurts. Damnation might be nice, Innocent Blood kills EVERYTHING ('cept Sigarda, Host of Herons) and even stuff like Black Sun's Zenith could be useful.
Definitely. My current list is miles better than the above for this reason. It may actually be competitive now. Unfortunately it is a very narrow minded deck, and recently I've been coming up dry for new ideas that fit with its narrow strategy. Heres my current list.
-2 Mishra's Factory, +2 Dread Statuary
This one's hard to explain. With hymn and sinkhole costing BB we can only handle about 6 colorless, even with urborgs. This is also the reason for no wastelands. Wasteland wouldn't be spectacular anyway because, without a dark ritual, we need climb to 4 mana for Void/Lodestone Golem, and then, often, sink 5 land activations each turn into Dread Statuary. We could go something like: 4 Factory, 4 wasteland (bringing total land count to 24 or 25) and Statuaries at all. The problem I see with this, and the original reason for playing more Statuary than Factory, is that, often times, when you are able to get a void out, a single manland is your creature (because, again, we need to be able to get BB mana consistently). In this situation you need a faster clock than Factory, and Statuary is twice as fast.
23 land. This deck needs a lot of land. 24 might be better, but not sure what to take out, so I'm mising 23.
-3 Nighthawk, +3 Snuff out, +2 Vendetta
This is just so much better. You snuff out before casting Void or Golem.
Do you run into problems with basically really suicidal, life draining cards like Bob, Thoughtseize and Arena and with only a single way to offset their disadvantages? Burn seems like a real nightmare for this deck, since what they use is really, really cheap so they can probably pay for the 'void's tax and just bolt you to death.
Nah you end the game so quick Bob rarely gets close to killing you. Flip 3 of your four casters though, and it can happen. With the inclusion of snuff out, things can get dicey. Just gotta be careful and know when to chump block and when to alpha strike with him.
Burn is actually an even if not favorable match up now that Fullminator hit the chopping block. It's slim land count of 20 is run on the assumption that all its lands are virtually immune to disruption - because they are all basic mountains. (Rishadan port has too low of a benefit-cost ratio be effective.) Any combination of sinkhole/hymn + Void/Golem can work to lock them out (except for hymn + golem, that rarely works. golem only finishes the game if they are stuck on one land. But even if he gets a couple swings in and then draws a burn spell, we are by then miles ahead of the burn deck.
Thanks for your interest. If you like what you're hearing test it out a little!
Ok thanks for the advice. So 5 manlands 4 golems is not quite enough threats? There's confidant to draw them too. If you resolve a void, it doesn't take that much to kill them.
What decks in particular is Nighthawk good against? He seems versatile, but a little slow.

Any opinions? :thumbsup::thumbsdown:
Oh i thought it was draw two! Now its starting to sound playable.
On second thoughts, so long as Crack the Eearth is in the mix I'd rather just beat face with a fast B/R zombie list than draw cards.
3 Sarcomancy
4 Delver of Secrets
2 Bloodgahst
2 Spell Pierce
4 Force of Will
2 Perilous research
4 Crack the Earth
2 Stifle
4 Brainstorm
3 Daze
3 Hymn to tourach
Sadly, I'm pretty sure perilous research off Sacro/ghast is still worse than a fourth Hymn and/or lighting bolts

I think its for dryad arbor.
I agree cool list. More goyf tho. And, snuff out doesn't seem necessary.
In terms of tuning,
-1 dryad arbor
+1 greens sun
for starters. Am-I-right?
+4 Spell snare
+4 Gemstone cavern
+3 Spell pierce
+3 Force spike
and +3-4 Stifle for good measure.
and run wasteland to get rid of that pesky cavern of souls.
...oh no...
...its happening again...
