The End of an Era

Thanks for the congratz, I'll probably play it again in 2 weeks and I'll try to take notes for a more detailed match report. I did bring Questing beast in a few times in removal heavy matchups like Jund and Stoneblade because I tend to trim pump spells in those matchups and I like having more threats in what will probably be a grindier game. It's in the board mostly for control and planeswalker heavy lists.

My utility land spread is a bit random and honestly the single treetop was because it was the only one I could find when putting the list backtogether. I think I have another one in my cube but didn't feel like digging it out. I'll probably go to 2 whenever I get around to ordering the Urza Legacy foils. I have a set of peatlands but I've been on the fence about adding more due to a few BlueMoon and Ponza players in the play group. I did have an interaction against Eldrazi Tron where Peatland was my only untapped land and I used it to pay the colorless on Dismember targeting a reality smasher. 5 life and a card from the hand was quite the cost but I won the game so I guess it was correct? Years and years ago I had a similar moment dismembering an Eidolon of the Great Revel and won that game as well. Just Stompy things I suppose.

    Hello all,
I've played Stompy in modern on and off since 2013 and last night I took 2nd going 3-1 in a 12 person tourney. Decklist at the bottom of this post.

Round 1 vs. Naya Stone Blade 2-1
Lost the 2nd game due to keeping a 1 lander and not finding a 2nd land until turn 4, turns out you still can't do that in modern...
Strangleroot Geist and Rancor were great against all the the bolts and helixes. Vines of Vastwood stopped a Sword of Fire and Ice equipping that would have been incredibly problematic.

    Round 2 vs. Jund 2-0
This match felt surprisingly easy. Dismembered a Goyf and then killed a Wren and Six at 4 loyalty with a Strangleroot Geist wearing a Rancor on turn 3. Opponent was a tad slow and apparently curving out is still good enough sometimes. Drayd Militant helped keep Goyf down in size and got in for like 6 damage by herself.

Round 3 vs. Oops all spells (the self mill with Creeping Chills and Vengvine version) 0-2
Honestly this matchup was rough, they comboed out turn 3 on the play in game 1 and repeated that on the draw in game 2. All I had to bring in was a single Tormod's Crypt and a Relic of Progenitus so that didn't help much. Due to that matchup I'm considering adding either a full set of Tormod's Crypts or a set of Leyline of the Void to the sideboard.

Round 4 vs. Eldrazi Tron 2-1
Curved out game 1 and sprinted to the finish line. Kept a 2 lander game 2 in which the opponent dropped a pair of Reality Smashers on me far too quickly.
Game 3 involved a Chalice of the Void on 1 which I was able to play around and got through off the back of Collector Ouphe, Strangleroot Geist, and a Hexdrinker from turn 1 that leveled all the way up to 8.

    Decklist
    4 Dryad Militant
    4 Experiment One
    2 Hexdrinker
    4 Strangleroot Geist
    4 Avatar of the Resolute

    2 Barkhide Troll
    4 Steel Leaf Champion
    1 Rhonas, the Indomitable

    2 Dismember
    3 Aspect of Hydra

    1 Treeptop Village
    1 Hashep Oasis
    2 Nurturing Peatland
    17 Forest

    Sideboard
