I don't think i'll ever see a good card with converge. The mechanic just stinks.
Oddly enough, they already made sunburst way back. They should've given a more "kick" to it be honest. Like not just X, but X+1 or twice X etc - something like that so that it can be more appealing.
I mean, it's really hard to setup it quickly for Cascade, and almost impossible without 1CMC cards.
so, it will just get some value there.
and the floor of a 3/1 can't block for 2 is really, really low.
alongside the fact that you're going to need a couple 1 CMC spells to set it up or else it would simply be better to just run the 3 CMC cascade stuff we usually do to hit the "no casting cost" stuff, I'm guessing this just will not see that much play.
maybe there's some way to run it in a deck with 2CMC and up hoping to throw stuff in the graveyard with Cathartic Reunion and friends to use Gaea's Will on turn 4 or something like that.
but it just seems really, really clunky.
the Sphinx in the other hand seems ABSOLUTELY CRAZY.
I mean.... specially in Legacy because Brainstorm is a card.
this thing will cheat real large things into the battlefield very early.
You're totally missing the point on why low cost cards with cascades are strong. It's because it is much easier to manipulate your deck into cascading into lower costed cards. The probability of what cards you will get is a lot more predictable. Now, it all comes to deck building in how you want it to work (in a predictable manner).
It's too bad it doesn't work with Urza's Saga or it might have been solid.
Why not? its a 0 Mana Value spell in the deck
No, it's a spell with no mana value. Different than a 0 mana value spell. (Mishra's Bauble is an example of an artifact with mana value 0. Cards like Sol Talisman and Lotus Bloom can't be found off the saga.)
You're answer is correct that it can not be fetched by Urza's Saga, however your explanation is incorrect. The MANA VALUE for Sol Talisman is 0. You are talking about the MANA COST, which is the one that's "null".
Urza's Saga specifically looks for MANA COST [0] or [1]. And the reason it can't look for Sol Talisman is because it has [] casting cost.
used to be a mega staple in commander today it’s a budget alternative to ramp card
still very handy for decks.
It's not really a ramp, more of considered as "card advantage". It doesn't really let you progress, tempo-wise. It has its uses, definitely. But it is definitely not a ramp.
Happy to see Titania enter modern, now if only we can get orcish lumberjack the titania legacy deck that goes all in on lumberjack and greater gargadon to power out a bunch of 5/3s will be mostly modern compatible.
I still hate the fact that WotC is kind of selling singles now, which is pretty unethical for me. The spirit of this being a trading card game is kind of lost now. They're dipping into the 3rd market action (which what drives the prices of singles). They're just basically selling cardboard in gold price. Even with all the money they make given all this, they still manage to screw up with quality control? What a bunch of ********s.
I wouldn't go criticizing the artwork. There are a lot of artists whose skills revolve around hyper-realistic imagery to the point it's hard to differentiate between what's art and what's not. A lot of artists on TikTok demonstrate that and it's believable majority of the time.
Interesting choice to put into the archive. Not sure what impact it will have on historic but anything is possible.
'buster
Criticized or not, the artist's job is to communicate visually ~ so if it's not appreciated or if most don't find the art appealing, that's a fail. "Viewers" don't need a college degree for them to appreciate art. As a fine arts grad myself, I appreciate the effort and technique, but there's something about it that's incomplete/off. It's a no for me.
Calling Auraswap and Transfigure mechanic. I find it hard for them to print these in standard set, so maybe we can finally see these in a commander set I guess.
No Treasonous Ogre? Xenagos also makes it easy I guess
