Most of you all seem pretty OCD about some ad hoc rule that can be abridged. In six months none of this will be an issue, and people will or won’t be using Companion cards. Either way the game will keep on keeping on.
Then why have rule 11? Why not just remove it and allow wishboards if its such a non-issue?
While it is interesting people compare her to Chandra, Torch of Defiance the reality is nobody really plays Chandra for her ultimate except Red Prison. So what Chandra really has is a +1 that draws you a card or shocks, a +1 that gives two mana, and a -3 that hits a creature for 4. Also Chandra is just inherently slower.
Isn’t it a color pie bend or break? Red is the color of rage, need and risk... it’s all or nothing. So, why is red putting cards in the bottom of the library? If I’m not wrong, it’s the first ever card in red that gives a draw without discard.
At worst its a bend, but its not a break. Red is still shortsighted. Instead of just pitching a card to the graveyard, it puts on the bottom of the library where it would likely never see it again, unless you are playing Grenzo, Dungeon Warden anyway. So in a way it can still be viewed as all or nothing within the context of just this card.
So while trying to find cards that would work with Zirda, the Dawnwaker I came across: Rebels.
Obviously Rebels already have a commander leader in the form of Lin Sivvi, Defiant Hero. Zirda could really make Lin Sivvi shine if run as the commander instead. As the deck now is filled with a bunch of tutors whose activation cost is discounted. Lin Sivvi herself could now find any rebel, non-changeling card, for 4 instead of 6.
Well you would want Slide, Drift, and Escape in general as they can help protect Gavi from targeted threats or sweepers with Drift & Slide.
Gavi as a commander I feel is less about potential haymaker combo plays like Brallin & Shabraz, but more about sustained value over time as her triggered ability can only happen once per a player's turn. Obviously cycling twice during another player's turn helps you get more cat dinosaurs out. As it will always cost 2 instead of 4 because her static ability regarding cycling applies to any player's turn, not just yours.
Spirit Cairn for your payoffs as well as it can get you more tokens when an opponent discards a card, not just you.
I would say some ETB effects are fine and some ways to capitalize on them due to all the slides, escapes, and drifts.
Say hello to the newset three companions in the discussion.
Jegantha can be run in 5-color decks that accommodate it. Just not ones that run something like Worldpurge or Kaya's Wrath. Probably great for sliver tribal decks like Morophon, the Boundless which rarely if never has more than one of the same mana symbol in their casting cost
Zirda only cares if your starting deck has permanents with activated abilities. Gives you Training Grounds for activated abilities, and even applies to ones that are not on the battlefield. Eternal Dragon for example has an activated ability that would be affected by this ability that can only be activated during the upkeep, but it also has a cycling ability which is an activated ability. Making the overall cost to recur this dragon and cycle it again for another plains card just 2WW instead of 5WW, and if you were willing to pay an extra 1 on top of the effective original cost, you can get two plains cards such as a Savannah and a Hallowed Fountain.
Kaheera is obviously more about tribal and is less explosive, but it already has a home in decks such as Arahbo, Roar of the World.
This seems silly in commander. Seven mana to just get back all of my permanents, not just creatures, including the enchantments and the artifacts and the planeswalkers and the lands. Geez, you could even play this after the board got heavily wiped and just come back if nobody cleaned the graveyards.
