I'd probably like them more if they were from a different artist. Just not a fan of Avon. Therese Nielsen, Noah Bradley, Rob Alexander. I'd much prefer just about anyone actually.
Sep 8, 2017Good lord, all the kvetching about "Wahhhhhh not for the MTG Cancer format". Not everything has to be for REEEEEEEDH. Complaining about Mana Drain? Really? What is wrong with you people? This set looks freaking bananas right now. If you think the $10 price point is too high, fine, valid complaint. You know what else is a valid complaint? $200 Mana Drains. I want Mana Drains. I don't have the income for Mana Drains. Now, maybe I can get Mana Drains. Maybe.Posted in: The Rumor Mill
Thoughtseize with original art: RAD!
Mana Drain: DOUBLE RAD!
Horizon Canopy: RAD! (Though I like the original better)
Bogardan Hellkite: ...wat...
Not really much else could make me happier for this set other than WotC saying "Oh yeah btw we're scrapping the reserved list here's some dual lands".
Edit: HOLY BUTTS THE CRYPTIC REPRINT. Oh man new art that's an homage to the old art I love it. It looks GREAT. One of the few times I prefer new art to old.

It's almost DRAAAAAGGGGGOONNNSSSSS levels of cringe.
I hate their article writing style so much.

That's big news. No My Little Pony crossover.
Considering everything else lately, that actually increases my opinion of WotC a little bit.
Jul 17, 2017Posted in: The Rumor MillQuote from orlouge82 »Soooo, they addressed the negative feedback from the FNM change on an article on the Mothership.
The gist of it is, well, here, in Blake Rasmussen's own words:
Let's take one of the comments I heard and the general sentiment among those who didn't like the change: "We just want relevant, playable FNM promos." The implication is that the player community as a whole will attend more FNMs if the promos are better. Except it's not true.
So the answer is to make even *****tier promos? To remove data from their site? To request that other sites not provide deck lists and information? This ******* company. Someone above compared them to Games Workshop and my word, is it ever apt.

Calling them Prophecies would have made too much sense I guess. If that name was a problem, hardly anyone remembers the expansion anyway.
The Bolas print looks awesome, and I wish WotC would just drop the stupid ass style guides and let the artists loose a bit so we can have nice things like that again. I like the style of the promos too. Reminds me of Ascension which is a great game.
As for the mural:
Jace is going to get shot by the M:tG police after robbing a liquor store and assaulting the police with a psychic attack but he a good boy din' do nuffin.
Liliana is going to be a Slave of Bolas because that is very original.
Nissa is going to be cellmates with Emrakul.
Chandra is going to be sick of being a discount Jaya Ballard, and go off and make a new group of friends because these other guys are total boring dorks.
Gideon is going to get the Leshrac treatment, and we'll finally be rid of him for a set or two before he makes his triumphant return because M:tG story makes comic books look like Tolstoy.

Because I'm pretty sure I can do a better job than whomever is writing these terrible things. It is almost as if they're generating random words from a software and having a human put them together.

Sep 8, 2017Posted in: The Rumor MillQuote from Dontrike »I really like that green merfolk. Either draws you a card or you get a 3/2 for 2, which might be bigger with whatever merfolk lord(s) there are.
Iconic Masters is giving me hope this might be the first really good Masters set since the 1st one, but Masters sets usually disappoint at the end and it has a $10 price tag to contend with.
Quote from Ashiok »Urgh, mana drain??? Why???
That card only sees play on VINTAGE and on some multiplayer commander lists. Blergh.
What could you possibly want over Mana Drain?
Complaining about a Mana Drain reprint. Wow, just wow.

Sep 8, 2017Posted in: The Rumor MillQuote from pierrebai »It's not true value town.
Many of the high-priced cards, like mana drain, are played in narrow competitive formats or only EDH. Their current price is held up by scarcity. Mana drain is not a 200$ card in IM booster. It's a 50$ card. You'll be opening boosters, look at "all that value" but realize the value was in how hard to get they were, not due to real competitive demand.
I think you just made the case against yourself.
Yeah, this will likely take Mana Drain from a $200 card to a $50 card. Which, while it does mean that people who crack one aren't really opening a $200 bill (and most are under no delusion that they are), the real benefit and reason people are excited, despite your attempt to urinate on others' excitement, is because the fact that these will be $50 cards means that if they want to buy or trade for one, now they'll be able to for one fourth the outlay of what they would have had to offer yesterday. People who considered it a card out of reach for their budget or trade stock now will have it within reach. And that's a reason for excitement.
Sep 8, 2017Set looks great for cubers and EDH players. Finally getting a Canopy for the cube, plus stuff like Vorinclex, Cobra, Flusterstorm, and Mana Drain for EDH decks.Posted in: The Rumor Mill
Maybe they're not the reprints you'd prefer, but these are expensive cards with no supply and it puts them into players' hands. That's good.
