  • posted a message on Best Mardu commander?
So I've got a pretty good Mardu manabase, and I don't feel like investing much more on lands. That being said, the deck I have right now is a Jirina Kudro upgraded precon and it sucks. What Mardu deck is the best?

I've heard that Kaalia of the Vast is good, but like a glass cannon. She does extremely well with no interference, but it is pretty easy to interfere, and at that point, you're pretty much screwed.

People keep telling me that Alesha, Who Smiles at Death is a great commander, but I don't really see how. She seems pretty fragile and easy to kill, and she only retrieves one creature per turn, and she can only do so by risking herself in an attack. I get that being able to cheat out cards like Master of Cruelties would be good, but I don't think there are enough cards with 2 or less power to be good.

I could make a deck that's fun but bad, like Zurgo Helmsmasher.

Maybe I should throw in the towel and make a Kess, Dissident Mage deck, but that's a last resort.

Any ideas? Any help is appreciated.

So. Mistriggers. Quite a number of arguments I've had over them.

I've played in a lot of playgroups whose leniency with the rules varies from "You tapped the wrong land and color screwed yourself, and now you can't play your spells. That sucks" to players attempting to use that pump spell they forgot to use in their combat once they've passed the turn and I've played cards on my first main.

But mistriggers. The term itself would suggest to me that you forget to do the effect of a triggered ability. That makes sense, if the words are "when X happens, you MAY do this". But what if it is a mandatory effect? For example, Eidolon of the Great Revel doesn't say "may", but I heard about some guy losing a world championship because he mistriggered on it. Once you miss your opportunity, is it too late, even if it's listed as mandatory?

Or what about people forgetting about "creatures you control get +1/+1" or similar effects? There are times I've attacked with a creature, then my opponent tells me "wait that should be dead from combat damage last turn, put it in your graveyard". Does my creature belatedly die? Or does nothing happen and the game just goes on?

  • posted a message on [Oathbreaker] - Most fun Oathbreaker combo deck you've seen?
My friend introduced me to Oathbreaker and I have since fallen in love. I like how much synergy there can be between commanders, and the potential for combos.

    My favorites so far:

Jace, Wielder of Mysteries, Treasure Hunt, and a deck of 58 Islands. Turn 6, cast Jace, draw your entire deck, and plus him to win.

Ral, Storm Conduit and Fury Storm which combos off making infinite copies pinging your opponents infinite times. This decklist here seems to be the best one:

A deck idea I had, I've never tried it and have no idea if it'd work, was where you used a Vampiric Tutor to get out a Thrumming Stone, and then have a library of ~40 Relentless Rats. Since the "a deck can have any number of these cards" works with Commander, I'd get out all the rats, and swing for lethal. The Planeswalker isn't necessary for the deck but I'd use Liliana of the Dark Realms for the mana ramp.

Alternatively, another deck was Jace, Wielder of Mysteries, Fabricate, Thrumming Stone, and a bunch of Persistent Petitioners to self-mill, but that'd be way slower than Treasure Hunt.

I was all proud of myself for coming up with the idea of using Tinker as the Signature Spell, fetching out Blightsteel Colossus and sacking one of many 0-drop artifacts. Then I found out Tinker was banned and I was very sad D':

Any other fun deck ideas yall've seen?

  • posted a message on [Oathbreaker] - Ral, Storm Conduit + Expansion // Explosion
The best Ral Oathbreaker decks aim to combo off, making infinite copies of spells. All those copies do is make more copies so it would normally be a useless combo, except Ral's passive allows you to infinitely ping opponents.
This is the best Ral deck I've found. I'm making a more budget version of it for myself by dropping the Vintage lands and more expensive artifacts.

  • posted a message on Running Command Tower in a monocolored deck?
I have friends who say "Run Command Tower, no matter what. Period." It just seems worse than a basic land in a monocolored deck. It gets whacked by Blood Moon and "destroy target nonbasic land" cards like Goblin Ruinblaster. It also isn't fetchable by fetch lands or Path to Exile sort of effects.

Should I run Command Tower or just a basic?

  • posted a message on Path of Ancestry and partner commanders?
If I use Path of Ancestry's ability to cast a card that shares a card type with only one of my commanders, does the scry ability work?

    Example:
My commanders are Trynn, Champion of Freedom and Silvar, Devourer of the Free. If I cast a Human, Soldier, Cat, or Nightmare card, the scry ability triggers? Or do I somehow choose a commander that it should look at?

  • posted a message on Which forum signature is better: Funny or harsh?
So I have three movie quotes from movies I love. One is humorous, while two are rather harsh. All three are extremely true. Which do you think I should use?

    The funny one:
"You know, when life gives you *****, you make Kool-Aid."
    -Sam Jackson, The Hitman's Bodyguard

    And the harsh ones:
"Here's the thing. Life is an endless series of train wrecks with only brief commercial-like breaks of happiness."
    -Wade Wilson, Deadpool

    and

"I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet."
    -Agent Smith, The Matrix

  • posted a message on 4-player draft or 4-player limited? What works better?
I'm locked out of my local game store due to coronavirus. I was thinking I would order a booster box and hold a mini-draft with me and 3 friends. However, it seems like it might not work well due to the tiny pod. Would it be easier to have a limited game, where we each open 6 packs and make a deck? Alternatively, we could draft with 4 or 5 packs as opposed to the ususal 3. I'm not sure what would work better.

    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!
