So if I have a Rest in Peace out, and the creature that my Rancor is attached to dies, does my Rancor get exiled or go back to my hand?
    Thanks

Although it doesn't weaponize his abilities, the three of these reduce the cost to just the one colored mana, making it cheap and easy to keep pissing off your opponents.

Find an old tablet that's selling for like 50 bucks, and it should work, but don't sue me. Maybe ask the seller to install the app and see if it works?

Most life total apps aren't especially life-draining or lag-causing. The vast majority of battery that gets drained by a device is used by the screen, so turn down the brightness and it'll live longer. If it's the only thing you're using on it, starting at 100% battery, it should last several hours, especially if you have the brightness down and airplane mode on so it's not wasting battery sending and receiving wifi and roaming signals.

Since Throne of Eldraine it seems Standard has been a roller coaster of "That seems cool, let's print that!" then "oops, turns out Oko, Thief of Crowns was really ******* broken, so ***** lets ban him". Then it's "Omnath, Locus of Creation decks are now literally 30% of the meta, so lets ban Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath instead of him. And we ended up having to ban Omnath anyways. Oh well."

Yes, I'm pretty salty. I pulled an Uro and didn't get a chance to sell him before his ban, and now he's dropped $15.

Then again, I don't play standard anyways, and I pulled a foil borderless Oko at a draft and sold him right before I was banned and got $80 off him. So maybe I should be grateful to Wizards for making such a blatantly overpowered card.

I don't feel I'm alone with my general loathing of Wizards right now, with bans happening every other day and the new Walking Dead *****.

This isn't mindless rage posting, I'm just trying to figure out how everyone else feels. My playgroup is definitely on the "**** Wizards" side of things, but I don't know how everyone else is.

Also, I heard that Oko was a misprint, that his "target artifact or creature becomes a useless 3/3" was actually supposed to be "target artifact or creature YOU CONTROL becomes a 3/3 dork". Does anyone know if that's true?

I play a Bogles modern deck, where you stick a bunch of auras on a 1/1 hexproof and make it very scary. Pretty much the only way they can get rid of it is by making you sack it, with something such as Liliana of the Veil. One way we Bogles players counter that is by running Dryad Arbor which is a Forest creature, which means you can fetch for it. So all of my fetches have to be green fetches. I run 4 selesnya and 2 gruul fetches, but the nongreen color doesn't even matter. So I've come up with this, which would hopefully only go for about $5 if actually printed. I have no idea how a price is exactly determined, just by supply and demand, but hopefully it'd be cheaper.

    Andelain
    Land
{T}, Pay 1 life, Sacrifice Andelain: Search your library for a Forest card, put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle your library.

If anybody is wondering, Andelain is a place in one of my favorite series, The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever.

I mean, there are a lot, but worldspine wurm is pretty good here. When it's killed, you still have 15 trample power on the board and your opponents have 3 more creatures to deal with. Plus, since it shuffles back into your library, you will be able to keep "cheating it out" with similar spells.

I'll be willing to give more suggestions, but I'd like to at least know what colors you're running first. Is it just red?

I'm not sure yet. It'd definitely be red, but I'll figure out what commander to use once I know the creatures I'm running so I can match the color identity well. So just any big creature will work.

Mainboard Lurrus of the Dream-Den or Leyline of Sanctity?

So my entire deck is CMC 2 or less, except for the 4-drop Leyline of Sanctity. I've seen some decks where all 4 are mainboarded, some where all are sideboarded, and some with Leylines in both boards. In order to use Lurrus as my game 1 companion, I'd need to sideboard in my Leylines in later games if needed, like if I'm fighting a burn deck.

I guess my question is for the first game of the match, and I don't know what other deck I'm playing, should I run Lurrus or my Leylines? Because Leylines will shut down a burn deck but don't do much against Infect, for example. Whereas Lurrus can help in most any match (late game, at least.)

Even without Lurrus, I usually keep a few Leylines in to buff Ethereal Armor. Is that a mistake? Should I just replace those Leylines with more auras like Gryff's Boons and Spider Umbras?

It seems like Lurrus could be funny gimmick to have as a companion, but wouldn't do much good except in drawn-out games, as he takes 6 mana to get out. Is he worth it, compared to the risk of a fast loss to a game 1 burn deck?

So I'm trying to make a Vampire tribal commander. Whenever he attacks, I can pay some mana and sack any number of Vamps I'm attacking with. Then I can destroy a nonland permanent with CMC equal to the total power of the sacked creatures. How would I phrase that?

Would I word it using "Vampires", or "Vampire creatures"? I've seen both ways used.

I think I have the "may pay mana" thing right based off Alesha, Who Smiles At Death.

    So like this:

Whenever ~ attacks, you may pay {W/B}{R/B} and sacrifice any number of attacking Vampires you control with total power X. If you do, destroy target nonland permanent with converted mana cost X.

or like this? ~ represents the card name.

Whenever ~ attacks, you may pay {W/B}{R/B}. If you do, you may sacrifice any number of attacking Vampires you control. If you do, destroy target nonland permanent with converted mana cost equal to the total power of the sacrificed creatures.

On The Gatherer (Wizards' card database) the oracle text for Sword of the Ages uses the X method. Is this how it would work?

Also, I'm trying to make him not too broken as a Mardu Vamp tribal commander (about the level of Edgar Markov. Should it be destroy or exile? What about nonland perm or creature?

Either way, it's definitely going to be nonland, so you can't just sack 0 creatures and then wipe all their lands.

  • posted a message on Using a copy spell to counter a counterspell?
So say I cast Sword of Fire and Ice and someone casts Cancel. Before it resolves, could I use Expansion // Explosion to make a copy of Cancel, and use my own copy to counter the Cancel, thus letting my Sword resolve? It seems like it could work, but I'm not entirely sure.

Also, I have a combo Oathbreaker deck where I use Ral, Storm Conduit and Fury Storm. I have Ral out. I cast a cheap spell like Opt and then cast Fury Storm. I use the first copy of Fury Storm to target the second. Then I use that newly created third copy to target the second, and so forth, creating infinite copies that wouldn't do anything, except with Ral it pings each opponent to death.

If they try to counter my Fury Storm, could I use a Fury Storm copy to copy the counter, and at least get two Opts?

So I'm making a deck where I have spells like Satyr's Cunning that create tokens. I then sack them with Transmogrify to cheat out a big scary creature to slaughter them.

What is the biggest, most overpowered tank in your opinion? Creatures whose power comes with a cast trigger don't work as well, but ETB triggers work just fine.

  • posted a message on Resetting your progress and wildcards?
I started MTGArena, and went to a website where there were a bunch of codes for 3 free packs of the latest sets. I was a dumbass and blew all my wildcards on a budget deck because I'm so used to making them, never realizing that I could just make pretty much whatever tier-1 deck I wanted. I was consistently getting my ass pummeled and gave up on MTGA.

Is there any way to reset your account, so my card collection is wiped but I can use those 1-time-only codes again? If I just delete it entirely and make a new one, will it recognize my email and not let me use those again? Does anyone know?

Worst case scenario, I'll make another account with my old email.

Would Kaalia of the Vast or Edgar Markov be a better deck to make? I was looking for a more budget deck but I'm not opposed to putting out cash for a better deck, as long as it stays good.

Most of the biggies you cheat out in Kaalia are pretty cheap, with a few pricy ones like Avacyn, Archangel of Hope. If you cheat out a good card early, that's pretty much the game, but it seems most people would whack Kaalia with removal as soon as you get her out, driving up the command tax to be pretty much unmanageable.

Edgar Markov himself is about $20, but the deck you build around him is pretty cheap, with Bloodghast being the most expensive vampire at $10, with most being under $2. Also, Edgar is very black-mana-heavy, so you end up running a lot of basic swamps.
Edgar is a very aggro deck, but it seems kinda hard whittling down someone who starts 40 life with a bunch of 2/1s and 1/1s, much less three other people. Especially if you're trying to race against a turn 3 Thassa's Oracle and Demonic Consultation combo. Hopefully that bull***** gets banned soon, but combo decks will always be around.

Queen Marchesa is usually a stax commander, but most of the stax cards like Smothering Tithe are pretty hefty. Plus, in a multiplayer game, running stax instantly paints a bulls-eye on your chest.

I like 60-card more than commander anyways, so I could just make a $50 Edgar deck that'd be fun to play, even if it loses often.

Also, do most local game stores have 1v1 commander, or 4-player playgroups? I play modern all the time but I've never tried commander.

Just to confirm - is the manabase an upgrade to the precons manabase? If so then how did you upgrade it?

Do keep in mind that while Kaalia is one of the best in her colors, the point of running her is to cheat big stuff out early and quick, so if you're wanting to build mardu off of owning the manabase then make sure it's good enough to guarentee all 3 colors untapped around turn 3 or 4.

There are a tremendous pile of 2-cmc mana rocks that are nice turn-2 plays to allow a turn-3 kaalia, but if your manabase has a compliment of tap-lands and it slows down your ability to push Kaalia out early, then it kinda defeats the point of running Kaalia.

She also benefits from cards like Hall of the Bandit lord which tends to stress on more budget manabase as a colorless source.

So without knowing your exact situation, I'd say if you can consistently see all 3 colors around turn-3 or 4, then anything listed above, but if all colors are not available by then then maybe not kaalia.

In terms of the manabase, it's not too bad. I have 2 of the 3 of the shock lands, 2/3 checks, 3/3 scrys, Prismatic Vista, the Mardu triome. I very rarely get color screwed.

So I've got a pretty good Mardu manabase, and I don't feel like investing much more on lands. That being said, the deck I have right now is a Jirina Kudro upgraded precon and it sucks. What Mardu deck is the best?

I've heard that Kaalia of the Vast is good, but like a glass cannon. She does extremely well with no interference, but it is pretty easy to interfere, and at that point, you're pretty much screwed.

People keep telling me that Alesha, Who Smiles at Death is a great commander, but I don't really see how. She seems pretty fragile and easy to kill, and she only retrieves one creature per turn, and she can only do so by risking herself in an attack. I get that being able to cheat out cards like Master of Cruelties would be good, but I don't think there are enough cards with 2 or less power to be good.

I could make a deck that's fun but bad, like Zurgo Helmsmasher.

Maybe I should throw in the towel and make a Kess, Dissident Mage deck, but that's a last resort.

Any ideas? Any suggestions are appreciated.
