The proper way would be to charge 30 bucks and make a OPTIONAL donation money X on the order (so as a customer you might just order the product without making a "forced" donation just to buy the product).
Then WotC would donate from the 30 bucks as a true honest donation by the company.
As its right now, WotC donates basically nothing and forces the customer to make a 30$ donation on their behave.

Formless_One posted a message on We need to stand together against HasbroPosted in: Magic GeneralQuote from Rosy Dumplings »This is the part that I was very unhappy with... and it happens to be flat-out untrue.
On the blogatog entry answering several questions about the TWD promos, Maro SPECIFICALLY states that the new functional reprint version and the previous secret lair version would be mutually exclusive, that the oracle page on gatherer would specifically state that the two versions are the exact same card for the purpose of deck building restrictions. Mechanically, these cards work like Zilortha in that a new version without crossover art CAN be made but just hasn’t been announced yet.
That you have to visit Blogatog to get this important information is definitely a point of criticism as this point has not been properly communicated to the masses but this specific problem is still a non-issue.
That's only because they are backpedaling. IF their original intention was to do this the same way as the Godzilla cards, they would have used the same formatting as the Godzilla cards, with the "unofficial" name for the crossover art version on top and the "official" card name in the frame underneath. Doing it any other way WILL lead to confusion about how many copies of a card you can actually put in your deck. You shouldn't have to look on Gatherer to see that the Crossover version is the same card as the "canon" version of the card. In fact, that's why the Godzilla cards are formatted the way they are, to ensure everyone is on the same page that they are just promotional artwork versions, not an entirely different card. The fact they didn't do that this time suggests they didn't have plans for a "canon" version until the public told WotC to go Fork themselves. Which is the problem: some shareholder told them to do this, MaRo has enough integrity to know this was a bad idea, so he's now making promises I'm not sure he is actually able to make no matter how much clout he has as lead game designer. Hopefully he does, but the formatting of the cards does not bode well for this being the same situation as the Godzilla cards. And even if they do the retroactive "LOLZ it was promo art all along" lie, the fact they are formatted improperly (according to their own rules!) will cause confusion and be a legitimate cause for criticism by players going into the future. -

It's totally Ulgrotha with some unspoken lineage to Innistrad and that the Markov family once emigrated from Ulgrotha to Innistrad while Serra and Feroz were present and before the ban came into place.
Or vice versa.

Xcric posted a message on Secret Lair x The Walking DeadHave we talked about how there was a secret extra card yet?Posted in: The Rumor Mill
Yeah, it comes with lucille. An equipment card.
It wasnt revealed anywhere and was apparently discovered through mtgo.
Lets talk about that.
Now it means you should also buy every single lair because who knows what other card will pop up to be included. Maybe its something busted. Maybe it synergizes really well with your deck, who knows! It could even be a boat! Buy it now just in case because you'll never get it again!
Lets also talk about how the vast majority of people ive seen who actually bought this flaming mistake did so expressly as an investment and not to use. So did they need to be mechanically unique or legal? Is that sales data that should be claimed as a success?
Then theres the marketing tactic they made expressly clear saying that theyd never print these again. Like they specifically put that in the marketing. to exploit fomo. It also makes their statements on reprinting them with magic names/art feel really duplicitous.
In short: **** off wizards. -

There's lot to agree with you up here ^^, especially the problem of pacing. In my perspective there wasn't enough to distinguish this 'MacGuffin' from the Eternal Sun which, while also part of a MacGuffin story, at least had a detailed narrative that was located both distally and proximate to the main webfiction.
Yes this is a game about magic, and magic can do some impressive things in a story but I'm eerily reminded of the ending of the "Blue Sword" book which I disliked due the the hand-wavey way in which the plot's main crisis was solved by the heroine. There needs to be a greater emphasis on the cost, exceptionality and, most importantly, mechanics of the solution than was given.
Why was this orb (gosh, its even an orb!) able to do what it did when it was made with an entirely different purpose in mind? Why was Nissa able to use it for this purpose and why was this trust in her gut sustainable and trustworthy as opposed to the instinct that made her release the Eldrazi in the first place? Don't tell me leylines. Show me how they work. The event would have also been a good spot to include Nissa's weird connection to Emrakul, more on Nissa's halted relationship with Chandra and the rest of the Gatewatch.
Why did the memory of Gideon push her towards black as opposed to white and did the author do enough to present this as her interpretation of what Gideon would do? White and Green are usually Black's antagonist colours so why did her understanding of Gideon present itself in the way that it did?
Quote from Max Rebo »...huh....ok then....hmm...huh..and its over?...hmmm
Alright I guess. If Nahiri had used the orb, would it have healed Zendikar too?? The 'just use the hyper powerful weapon and it'll all work out' seems a little...hand wavy.
Wasn't the way I saw it ending and still don't really understand the motivations or intent of Nahiri, Jace, or Nissa.
It just ended up being a happy ending because 'the orb wanted it to be'? weird
To semi-repeat myself, Nahiri talked about how the core had been used in the past as a power source and a way for the Kor to shape and control the land/stone. Well this was literal, the Kor had somehow trapped a piece of zendikar soul in it and I think it drained life from the plane to semi-tame it. Nissa who magic is connected to Zendikar world soul was able to return that piece to the plane and likely the only one who could do so.
For motivations we had:
Nahiri feeling guilty about failing to protect zendikar and see herself as its protector is wanting to not only fix her home but force it back to the way it was before the eldrazi, even if means "lobotomizing" the plane. Zendikar is healing but she lost the home she knew (a long long time ago).
Nissa feeling guilty about failing to protect zendikar and see herself as its protector is wanting to heal Zendikar from the damage from the eldrazi and protect the world soul as it is. She basically won. Sleeping on it I think the idea is she finally learned to listen and believe in herself and trust in her power (which was her black side coming out). I guess all of them needed to listen to her, even herself.
Jace feeling guilty about hiding the fact Bolas is alive wants to fix his friendship with Nissa, have Nahiri as an ally and possible use the core to fight Bolas or other planar threats. He lost in every manner but is left with hope things could still be fixed as he see that Zenikdar is healing from the mistakes of him and other who let the eldrazi scar Zendikar.
Is Nissa even still in the Gatewatch anymore? The story kind of leaves this hanging and while the new tension between her and Jace is good for character developement it is interesting that Nissa had already just rejoined the group. After all the two had accomplished together, the pacing does not demonstrate enough real conflict between the two to seriously endanger their relationship.
No, I think she out, I think she would be an ally if something huge like Phyrexia or Bolas came that might threat Zendikar but I think Nissa isn't wanting to leave or trust in people for awhile.
I think all of this would have been clearer with more story again though, a lot of this I caught from one line here or there since thats all the author had to fit it in.

its not really broken there. no more so than any infinite combo. the real problem with scute swarm is with arena where you can't just write down the number of tokens and call it a day like you could with any edh pod at a physical table. theres no real reason to ban it in edh, but due to the limitations of arena there's a major case to ban it there.
while its blatantly clear that they weren't going to ban all the problematic cards given that they're new and they want to sell packs i think it should really be screaming at the playerbase that something is fundamentally broken. it should be incredibly obvious now that their system either doesn't work, or that they have no idea what the **** they're doing any more or worse... they just don't care because we'll buy it anyway.
balance has gone right out the window, and fun went right along with it. -

Xcric posted a message on Secret Lair x The Walking DeadI have nothing nice to say about this product and the precedent it sets.Posted in: The Rumor Mill
If you want the mechanically unique cards youre forced into supporting the secret lair model. That means a premium price and buying into the FOMO model due to its limited window.
They wont be able to reprinted anywhere else because theyre tied to a license. A license thats several years out of popular fandom. Pushing FOMO even further if you like what they do, or what they do is proven strong later.
They break immersion dramatically. Gonna be real cool to attack your jace with jeffrey dean morgan... what next? Shrek? The monopoly guy? Garfield? Its an erosion of brand.
If successful this sends all of the wrong messages regarding new product design, availability, and marketing.
This is a jump the shark moment. No one asked for this. This is not only blind but the genuine opposite of what the players keep asking for.
Utter trash and representative of the continued decline of the directionless wotc. -

Well he also managed to get himself infected with Phyrexian oil as well so I assume he needs to come back and talk with Vorinclex again to finish the deal they made, (that was unnecessary because thats what Tibalt was going to do anyway.) But he probably won't because showing back up in front of the Monstrous Praetor is probably a bad idea and Tibalt would know that. Hmm. Just a weird setup. Guess the oil is walking around the multiverse again.
Maybe if we find out how and when Vorinclex got there and who hired Kaya to track and kill him some things might get cleared up.
It's just the same old trope though in a way, Some random plane just doing its own thing minding its business until some Planeswakers show up and start messing around with everything. I just want a plane to stand on its own instead of just being the backdrop of some passing by Walker slap fest
