Thanks for sharing. But I am getting 404 error link not found on your link.

Issue one, this story above contradicts what was reported earlier. Boxes bought at the LGS when it was stated in another article it wasn't bought at the Whitby store. So which one is it? So who got that information wrong?

Issue two, this is evidently all going through the lawyers before it is released to the public. Yes it makes sense to protect yourself but it can cast doubt in the minds of others (I am not the only person such).

If you want to believe the information at face value go right ahead. I am an eternal skeptic when it comes to matters of money and human nature and at this point nothing short of a video of the finder buying and opening it will change my mind. People are far too trusting in some regards and this instance is one of them. I still have issues with how it ended up where it did but that is a whole other ball of wax.

But again thank you for that information and if you could provide an updated or fixed link it would be appreciated. This new information does not prove or disprove either theory. So it puts nothing to bed.

I fixed the link, plus it is linked in multiple responses on this page.
He probably didnt film it, like most people who were opening these so doubt we'll get a video though maybe it'll be released later. He did take pictures, feet included Smile and sent to friends when it first happened. Those can be found somewhere on reddit I believe.
I believe the first info said the card wasn't Opened in the store. They never mentioned whether or not it was bought at a store.
I'm sure once it's sold the finder will tell his whole story but until then he is just being smart.
This is all coming from me, someone who has been playing since revised and despises what WotC has done with the game I love and I won't buy anything from them anymore but the story so far of this stunt sounds legit, so far. Until there is reason to believe otherwise besides a prudent healthy skepticism of whatever WoTC does, I will just go with it.

A lot of apologists and WotC employees on the site it would seem.

Let me lay it out for those of you who might be a little too slow or obtuse to catch on.

    Who: Don't know their name.
What: The One Ring worth between 1 and 2 million USD
Where: Don't know where the pack was actually acquired.
Why: We can assume to score a million plus $ card
When: No actual date is known only anecdotal evidence.
How: Who knows, bought, stolen, gifted? No information given

My suspicion is one of two....

    1. The LGS opened up the packs early. (Which they are in the right to do although in fairness to everyone else out there gives them an unfair advantage). Found the card BEFORE pre-release and sent it to be graded. Meanwhile, players are buying packs left and right thinking they have a shot when they have ZERO chance to pull it. Knowing this looks bad they find a store patron to act as the "finder". Make arrangements to compensate this person for doing so when the store will reap the lion's share of the "bounty".

With this said, all legal but it looks bad. This doesn't even address that WotC knew exactly where they sent the card and whether or not they predetermined where to send it.

    2. The finder either bought/stole/was gifted the pack containing the card BEFORE pre-release or release date itself. Maybe purchasing the pack from the retail store they work at before it would be available to the public. Could have been obtained in Canada or United States for that matter we don't know and they aren't sharing any pertinent information, see above.

So there it is. Could be totally innocent but without further information any theory thrown out there is totally plausible at this point. Maybe some can take off their rose colored glasses for a minute and look outside the bubble and see that these things can and do happen on a regular basis when huge amounts of money are involved. I hope I am proven wrong, but I doubt it. But the evidence that is out there right now doesn't disprove my theory at all.

So WHERE was the pack bought?
    WHEN was the pack bought?

Those are the 2 most important pieces of information that they have not released. Until they do this stinks of grift.

I'll just leave this here: (from the article https://toronto.ctvnews.ca/toronto-man-36-in-complete-disbelief-after-finding-ultra-rare-playing-card-1.6467857

The card owner has chosen to remain anonymous, but in a statement to CTV News Toronto provided by marketing and PR firm, Notable Group, they said the person is a cashier and forklift operator living in Toronto.

The elusive trading card-bearer said he has been playing MTG ever since he was a kid.

While he kicked the hobby when he went to university, he says he picked it back up a few years ago.

He said he had pre-ordered the collector’s box and was set to pick it up on June 17.

“But, for some reason, I woke up early on June 16 and decided to head to the store when it opened,” the statement reads, adding he went to Face to Face Games in Toronto.

“I was the first one in. I asked if they had any collector boxes for sale, and they said they had a few left. So, I bought two. I opened the extra boxes at home, and there it was, in the sixth pack of the second box!”

Hey I love a good conspiracy too.... it's just not happening.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but is that a Collector Booster "box" of 4 packs of 6 cards each?

So 24 cards? in a "box"?

what’s so weird it’s a mini set with only 50 cards

    Have prices been announced yet?

Looks like another classic WotC/Hasbro "Less for More" product.

Amazon is pretty easy to look up
The collector box for Aftermath has 12 packs.
They are on preorder for $239.
Still thats only 72 cards or $3.32 PER CARD
They better be LOADED or this would be a very easy pass

To be fair to earlier post. Being able to remove counters by way of NON-COMBAT damage seems counterintuitive. It's a battle afterall. But with these apparent rules, these Battles are going to be VERY susceptible to being BROKEN now. If you can remove the counters in other ways besides combat damage all bets are off.
Wizards will think they are being safe by having one with 20 defence counters on it so it's hard to get the two extra turns spell on the back and all you got to do is Hexmage it!
Heartless Act, Glissa, direct damage all lend to these being abusable.
Like its not that great BUT being able to defeat this Before combat lets you attack with the creature that turn and able to tap it for mana second phase. And this is just a uncommon.

For those that need clarification here are the rules:

    • Each battle in MOM is a TDFC
    • Battles can be cast during your main phase if the stack is empty
    • Battles enter the battlefield with a number of defense counters on it equal to their defense (bottom right value)
    • Like Planeswalkers, battles can be attacked and damaged
    • A battle’s subtype provide rules for how it can be attacked
    • All battles in MOM have the subtype Siege
    • As a Siege ETBs, its controller chooses an opponent to be its protector. Every player except the protector may attack it. Only a battle’s protector may block creatures attacking it
    • Some spells and abilities may specifically damage battles
    • “Any target” can target battles
    • Any damage dealt to a battle causes that many defense counters to be removed
    • When the last defense counter is removed, the battle is defeated and a triggered ability triggers. As this ability resolves, the battle’s controller exiles it then casts the back face from exile without paying its mana cost
    • The back faces are mostly permanents, but there are some sorcereries

Only thing dissapointing about the entire story is Ajani and Nissa being cured. They both have been around long enough, both have had plenty of storylines throughout the years and both were the Most committed or corrupted by the Phyrexians and .... bleh , cured (at the expense of awesome Karn and awesome Melira). Just let them die and get some new walkers. Otherwise I liked the way it ended.

The only thing I'm confused on is Why people here and on Reddit are confused. This is completely intuitive on all levels. You cast it, you get the first benefit. When it's defeated, You can cast the back side since you control it. This is the Invasion (siege), that an opponent is protecting and has the option to defend, They are the bad guys. When you defeat the invasion, you get a bonus for defeating the Phyrexians. What's so hard about this?

The problem I have with WoTC doing what they did with Aragorn for "reasons" is that it sets up a situation where if anyone disagrees with it on either the lore holding true to Tolkien or even just the stupidity of it, they will be called names that have nothing to do with their opinion. The only thing that comes of it is controversy and a desire to divide people.

Not trying to be short or curt but do people really care what this committee says? I mean its a casual format and the golden rule 0 exists. Is this just for CeDH and LGS? Even LGS (IF you can even find one in your area) who cares but the group playing? They are so wildly inconsistent why listen at all. Eminence and Thoracle are ok but a Chaos Orb is not? It would be awesome to see someone flip an Orb if they had one (Plus no real rule on where we place our permanents so it'll probably be a 1 for 1 removal, oh no)Upheaval is banned but Cataclysm is not? I guess I just don't get what weight people give this so called committee when they play that can't be fleshed out the old fashioned way (No, nobody wants to play with you if you do that, Or , we all kill this person for trying it)

    Set is pretty cool.
Just a couple of "hot takes"

The Elesh Norn faction "aesthetic" (the red sinew and white) is just unappealing and stupid looking.

The Ichor showcase and Oil-Slicked showcases are just hideous imo. I guess i'm just getting older but my eyes see basically blobs of nothingness on these cards. They are basically illegible from my eyes nonetheless from across the table.

To be honest, this whole mission seems Impossible.
The fact that a scratch in a fight or even on a piece of "tree" "debris" or anything else will lead to completion, the fact that just breathing in the dross pits can lead to completion and the fact that New Phyrexia knew they were coming, makes it just ridiculous that anyone would survive.
The way they set up New Phyrexia now is just way way to OP.
I guess the Wanderer blinking in and out, that Kaya can phase, and Kaito's super agility can give them a chance. Tyvar being a brawler and always fighting hand to hand combat should make it near impossible, even with halo and glimmer coating.
    How can they win?
Plus the setting of the sylex, which may not even work, is a suicide mission.
Maybe they don't win at all and it's going to take some Teferi time shenanigan hand waiving for an actual "defeat" of New Phyrexia. Becuase otherwise I just don't see it.

    I mean, spoiler ahead
We already KNOW that this mission will not succeed. Because we have artwork of the realmbreaker invading Zendikar, Theros and Kamigawa.

Totally agreed on the OP phyrexia thing. Whenever there's a fight with (glistening oil era) phyrexia I'm always like "how do they want to win, unless they are magically protected by Halo or whatever". It's also odd when you consider cards like Bite Down. I mean... If Phyrexia wanted to invade a plane, literally all they need to do is spray glistening oil over everything using carriers and/or just let their own forces be eaten by the local wildlife and wait.

It feels a bit like Phyrexia is (ab)using the "rule of narrative need" the most out of all things in MtG. Like, apparently Phyrexia can be repelled by dinosaurs literally eating phyrexians, and other times a single scratch can induce phyresis in a matter of hours(?!).

Another reason why MtG story will never be "great". It's just too internally inconsistent.

Sorry the phrasing wasn't quite right on my post. I am aware that the other planes get relmbreakered. The context I was trying to say is after that. Exactly, these planes get bridged. By what the have set NP to be, those planes are GONE. Nothing can be done to stop that basically. And there is basically nothing to stop further breaches and phyrexianization of everywhere and everything unless there is going to be some serious hand waiving (either time shenanigans to stop NP from even coming into existence, or a cure to the oil (which basically takes only one drop on a world and can be aerosolized as well.
