Oh thank goodness, a preview from a new upcoming set! And just in time, I was getting so bored with that other set that they were hyping ages ago. What was it called? March of the something?
A GU legend that draws cards? How original. They may as well just keep reprinting the same one at this point. Like, is there noooo other design space in the history of magic that UG can explore?
In all fairness, this legend is based around animating lands and giving a bonus for having animated lands, which is something rather unique in the legend space. Yes the payoff is getting to draw cards, but at least it's connected to animating a larger land.
At least the buy a box promo art is gorgeous. All the arts are great, but that one really stands out for me.
Odd that Rona's front side is neither a Phyrexian nor a Zombie despite the fact that her upgrades were quite extensive and she actually died on Dominaria and only her metallic bits were brought to New Phyrexia by Tezzeret. (Because the planar bridge destroys all organic material.)
[Tezzeret] was once again on the accursed plane of New Phyrexia, the charred endoskeleton of Rona in his arms.
Mmh, maybe her reconstruction underwent the same treatment as Stenn and other sleeper agents? But then... Why?
Wow I forgot all that. Was that from one of the Brother's War side stories that focused on what everyone else was doing while Teferi went on his adventure? Maybe Wotc forgot too?
I never did understand why Rona wasn't compleated earlier anyway. Like by DMU we had Phyrexians in Dominaria, and by that time compleation was suddenly happening... basically as fast as the plot needed or wanted it to.
Anyway, this could be a fun (but probably awful) "against the odds" brew for Saffron Olive at mtgoldfish. Flip Rona, then ping her until you randomly exile the Emrakul in your hand.
Battle-Boon Valkyrie is just a rare? Wow. It's either a a baneslayer (5/5 flying, first strike, lifelink) or it's a 4/4 version that lets another creature swing that turn for an amazing lifelinking attack. Bomb rare for limited, at the very least.
I find it hard to believe these are the only cards we are getting today, since there is no big new (non-Commander) legend/storyline card reveal other than invasion of new phyrexia. But I guess we'll see soon enough!
Vraska seems to have died, but they haven't found the body...
And more important, seemly no card art of her death.
My take is that the part of the "good Vraska" that was able to seal itself inside of her psyche (in the secret part Jace created to evade Bolas back in the day) was able to take back control as the Phryexian parts of her died, and it activated a planeswalk away. Some extremely wounded but de-phyrexianized living Vraska may be recovering somewhere - yes maybe Ixalan!
I really liked both stories today. Amazing seeing Zhalfir found and back and now coming to the rescue to invade Phyrexia itself.
So that seems to be where Teferi ended up when he time-jumped/spirit-shifted/whatever at the end of his conversation with Urza in Brother's War. That has me thinking that the mysteries spirit watchers that have appeared in a couple of these stories are something else, though.
The story has had some great moments and I'm looking forward to the rest.
My gripe is that he has no form of indestructible, and is always a creature, breaking two traditions of Theros gods. I wish they had given him even a hard to attain conditional indestructible, like "as long as you control 10 or more enchantments."
Geth is bloody awful. Why does he kill his own team? Completion has ruined the poor guy. Also, venser a 1/3 dork? Artwork a complete miss.
Millions of years ago, some permanents contained things called "drawbacks" that allowed you to get a more powerful permanent at a lower mana cost if you could stomach the disadvantage/risk it might also present. It is very disconcerting for some folks to see when WotC mines this old design space because they do it so rarely now.
Neat passive ability. I'm waiting for the third iteration of Kaito to have "planeswalker ninjitsu" - like he can be put into play at reduced cost and activate one of his ability at instant speed (wandering emperor style) if you return an unblocked attacker to your hand.
Anyway, this card seems quite good, a bomb for limited at least. If all the rare walkers are this power level, limited may get a little annoying.
