    All that said, again, I'd like to see them focus their Commander energy on making 4-5 really strong (and still affordable) Commander precons each year.
    I do like that these replaced those jank-ass planeswalker decks, though.

    Does nobody here remember it’s not the yearly commander Decks they are replacing and it’s the planeswalkers decks

    I don’t remember where but I believe gavin confirmed we’re still getting those yearly commander decks with lots of new cards along with these weaker $20 ones

    Yeah, we got the "real" commander decks this year already - they were the Ikoria decks.

    I'm excited for a sea monster lands matter deck! Even if it is repetitive of stuff we've already seen.

    Absolutely not Stasis. One of the most hated and least fun cards of all time. A commander-only set would be the worst place to put it (aside from a beginner/intro product).

    Dang, a new Phelddagriff would be sweet though! Maybe there will be one anyway... maybe it is being retconned to a Bird Hippo creature type!

    Gross, should have been an uncommon. 25 cent mythic after rotation.

    Why does every card needs to be a powerhouse??

    No one is saying that. Why does every mythic in this set need to be an outhouse?

    To make it mythic rare Worthy the correct wording is “up to any two targets” not “creatures or planeswalkers”

    so this is the worst mythic of the set easily

    This is ridiculous. You can't just print thousands of new copies of a power card like this, give them away for free and not expect the MTG Finance folks to be furious. Incoming price plunge. Thank goodness I unloaded all my Tibalts a few months ago when they were at their peak.

    That sounds plausible, although a bunch of creatures that can turn into "signature spells" actually sounds a lot more like something that would fit in the harry potter wizard school themed set that comes after it. What if it was legends turning into their legendary signature equipment or artifacts? That feels viking-ish, right?

    My thinking was that the modal cards would somehow have to do with seasons, and that the change of season (winter/summer) would somehow play into the set.

    Plus, we know that for some reason there will be the remaining 4 modal dual lands to finish the Zendikar cycle. But my impression is that those will be the only flip lands, since MaRo's article suggested that each of the sets featuring these modal DFCs would use them in a different way.

    It was also designed about 20 years ago, before this card existed, and isn't a 2/1 flyer that steals a mox for 2 mana if its kicker is 0, so there's that.

    I think a part of it is the limitations of the way they do batching mechanics, your party isn't chosen/static and all the mechanics do is check if things fit basic criteria. What I mean is, the way party was designed doesn't allow for things like "When a creature joins your party" "When ~ dies, if it was a member of your party, " or "Members of your party have lifelink." They were limited to counting roles filled, but even that could have been explored in more dynamic ways than basic scaling with some bonuses for a full party.

    Caring if your party has other members ("If your party has two or more creatures in it, ") or more interesting cross-class encouragement ("Target creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn. if it's a Warrior, it gains lifelink until end of turn." on a Cleric or "When ~ attacks, it gains flying until end of turn if you control a Wizard." on a Rogue) may have helped. As it stands, party is quite a binary mechanic, you either want full party to maximize everything or you don't want it at all. I respect that WotC was pushing for that (much the same way Domain was intended to be maximized and encouraged five color play and didn't bother with half steps), I just think it made for a less dynamic, less interesting mechanic.

    I think the flavor was well-received, so hopefully they bring party back and expand on how it is explored.

    I fully agree. Party being so completely binary means there is no early or even mid-game advantage to running a Party deck, but at the same time there’s no real late-game advantage either because having a full party doesn’t really ever pay off. It’s just a completely failed attempt and it’s baffling to me that it was allowed to proceed this way.

    How much have you played with the party mechanic so far? How much have any of us played with it? Me, none.

    I'd wait until people actually have significant reps with the mechanic in draft before declaring it completely failed.

    Agreed. It makes no sense.

    Wizards seems to have a serious, fundamental refusal to ever just give us a complete 10-card cycle of good duals in a single set. At least we only have to wait 1 set for the remaining 4 of these. We may never get enemy color battle lands or enemy color cycling lands (or the other 4 Horizon Canopy lands, for that matter).

    I have actually really been enjoying the format, but auto concede when I see green/blue decks. It just isn't fun and they're all the same.

    Some cards I think you'll be happy to play and kick in a Verazol deck:

    plus from this set, the blue and green inscriptions, field research, roost of drakes, thieving skydiver, cragplate baloth, murasa sproutling, vastwood surge, skyclave relic, and myriad construct. Add in the typical green ramp (maybe more than usual), some card draw and interaction, and a few more cards that care about or add +1/+1 counters, and you've got yourself a nice little simic kicker deck.

    You still can - it won't get any benefit from Arcades himself, but it works with Assault Formation and High Alert (and Huatli, Sun's Heart) so it still has a lot going for it.

    Looks like an interesting, well-built deck, probably less synergistic than the Naya lands one, but with some great reprint value.

    This deck actually seems pretty great. Tons of synergy, enough ramp, decent removal and card draw, and as much of it on-theme as possible. And classic commander power cards/staples like sun titan, acidic slime, angry Omnath.

    I was expecting to see more actual Zendikar Rising cards in the deck, but I'm not necessarily disappointed about that either. Seems like it was designed so if you opened some new packs of ZR you'll find more cards to fit into the deck.
