To be honest I was really disapointed with this card, in that the fight fixer clearly should be something like:
2BR
tap: target creature you control fights another target creature
Prevent all damage done to creatures you control caused by fights
3/3
Something like that (the wording is not correct I am sure, but the idea should be clear).
Instead the real fight fixer has nothing to do with fights (the mechanic) :/
discard a card: target creature you control fights another target creature. If a creature you control dies from this effect, draw 2 cards and gain 3 life.
flavor text: Rocky, I'm gonna need you to take a dive. (and the picture is Kels and an Earth elemental)
I almost think WOTC is trying to make command zone infinite combo pieces - from the fox in Ikoria (+basalt monolith, grim monolith) to Kalamax (+any fork card) to zaxara (+pemmin's aura and freed from the real) and now a command zone eldrazi displacer (although I cannot think of any infinite combos in green/white - nothing like peregrin drake).
It really feels like there needs to be some rule change (a forced break after 4 iterations of a repeatable loop or something like that) in order to make cEDH anything more than a demonstration of the most redundant, lowest cost combo.
Welp. Thus far this set is looking like one of those where I am not the target audience, tbh
I think the target audience is kitchen table commander players - while waiting for your 3rd and 4th, you crack a couple of these, play a quick match and add a craterhoof to your ooze theme deck for the main event.
Or for the simple fact that you then have a 4th level of redundancy - that exists in your command zone for a win condition. You can now self mill without being afraid of hitting all your wincons
Rather sad we didn't get cuombajj witches with the mtgo picture. I truly wonder why the mtgo art has not been utilized on so many cards (like give me those red/blue elemental blasts too!)

Is it just me or does this feel like it should have been a ninja since ModHorizons showed us we can have ninjas without ninjutsu?
As much as I would love to have more ninja love - rogue and ninja are both "classes" and as such it would be as common as soldier knights. To choose one or the other i think rogue is more appropriate.
Maybe he is not as flavorful as we hoped, but his existence as a sideboard (even mainboard!) possibility is much more relevant than massacre girl (they fill similar anti-aggro strategies), and the difference in initial mana and the persistence of the effect makes it well positioned to help determine the metagame. The oven decks presently have enough speed and stamina to ignore this card on it's own, but if other tools show up to painlessly impact that deck, this card is relevant in that match-up. No magic card exists in a vacuum - and cards like this that help put a check on multiple potential strategies is quite welcome in my mind.
I have to admit, I'm taken aback at people rejecting the notion of the value of equity. Equality as a concept is impoverished if it doesn't include dimensions of equity; equity makes equality ethically robust. Now if someone could demonstrate to me what equality actually loses by including equity, that would be a fascinating discussion.
I have to pause you here, equity has to occur organically, in my opinion, in order for it to be of value. To deny the opportunity to compete is assuredly wrong, but the institutional mandate of equity is equally flawed. Solely as a matter of self-worth and the perception of those you interact with should not be tarnished by the assumption that the position you achieved is a result of pity. Extrapolating this idea, I find the practice endemic to Hollywood awards of differentiating best actor and actress sexist and unnecessary. Would you suggest that Audrey Hepburn would not be recognized if she were a man? It had even been suggested they should further fragmentizing according to race. All that is telling me is one of two things: Hollywood admits to not giving the same opportunities to succeed or they are insinuating that a particular demographic is more capable at acting. Either option is repugnant.
To further go down this rabbit hole, the question of biological inequality in capabilities comes up in a competition like the Olympics. Are we at a point where we can still have competitions that are separated male/female? The reason for the initial separation was to level the playing field because of an understanding of average physical capabilities between men and women. Where does a transgender individual fall in this spectrum? What if you are biologically female but identify as male? Is the correct course of action to differentiate or to combine? Either way equity is not possible to attain.
So, yes, I want my doctor to be an African American woman because she is the individual that has earned the position, and is not a quota. I want my president to be the man whose ideals and experience resonate with what I feel is the best for the country, and not to hit a milestone in opportunity (I am not saying Obama was not the best choice, but rather I had heard people vote for him solely because of his race and what that shows for equity and equality).
Equity will follow equality, but organically it takes some time. If indeed wotc was denying people based on race that is absolutely wrong. Equity done in an organic manner is painful, and slow. But equity to create equality creates resentment and maintains a racial lens.
I know that some of you took offense to my comments here, but for a company to seek out and highlight unintentional instances of marginalization is doing far more damage than good. As far as I am aware, no significant portion of the mtg community is using Cleanse to promote racism. Gypsy is a term that has transcended racial connotations and just means traveller/nomad. If a word is not being used to degrade/separate, it isn't racist. Use context, use intention - and heck, we have pictures to help decide if the intention (ahem Invoke prejudice) was racist.
How does this compare to lonesome unicorn? It looks like a bargain, but I think most of the time the unicorn was a just in case the game stalled out bonus. The knight was the real card.
Along these lines, when does Wizards change the names of the colors to "purple" and "yellow"?
All of these bannings make sense with the exception of Crusade.
Cleanse has nothing racist about it unless you force it into a particular dialog. Virtue's ruin as was pointed out is equally as "racist" and the flavor text is inflammatory if you read it as such. Invoke prejudice I can stand behind. Even Jihad and army of allah I can embrace because of sensitivity to Islam and the negative portrayal of Muslims. Once you get past those 3 you dilute the message to the point of ridiculousness.
As an unfortunate aside, I had poor timing to make a heliod deck last month - aka "devotion to white deck" and I had jihad and crusade. When I say it like that it sounds like a bigot. Did I have the slightest intention to be insensitive? Absolutely not. I just wanted white pips.
Trying to force a narrative where none exists is ridiculous, destructive and dilutes/muddles actual instances of racial/cultural/sexual insensitivity.
I feel like so many of us have stories about how much Magic has impacted our lives. I played magic with so many other Chris's we each needed a nickname. Big chris, little chris, cheesy chris, other chris - and I got EVILCHRIS. I had the (worst) most-convoluted combos, 5+ card infinite combos and such (nacre talisman, enduring renewal, farrelite priest, tundra wolf, caribou range, ashnod's altar, crusade for example - infinite life and infinite 1/2 caribou).
Anyways, I was desperately hoping that Rayne, Academy Chancellor would join the ranks of legends that got revisited - I loved that card back in the day.

I think tiro is spreading vicious rumors

And for that I love you more than my own children (admittedly that isn't saying too much because they are evil hellspawns)
