Jan 29, 2014Koopa posted a message on The Upcoming Modern B/R AnnouncementPosted in: Koopa BlogQuote from i-never-smileDo you think you could elaborate more about why "Deathrite isn’t really all that degenerate. It is a strong card sure, but it’s a completely fair card." This piqued my interest...and then you changed the subject. Isn't DRS one of the biggest subjects of debate for ban/unban discussion?
Deathrite is the card most people are crying for a ban over but that doesn't mean it deserves to be banned. Deathrite is literally a situational mana dork that can disrupt the graveyard. An incredibly strong card indeed, but do you honestly think that is ban worthy? -
Dec 16, 2009Koopa posted a message on So I tried Yugioh yesterdayAs a ex-Yugi player, I know how Yugi feels when you first pick it up. Fast, exciting, fun! But I wouldn't advise going too much into it. The game is ridiculously unbalanced and Konami, unlike Wizards, doesn't really care until the list rotation every 6 months. In which case they ban cards they've already milked for money... not what needs to be banned or restricted to make the format balanced. Then once THEY DO make a good format, they release on of their weekly sets that release 5 cards that completley brake the game.Posted in: Chrome homura Blog
Also, you're lucky that your Yugi players are so nice. Most are little punks who always take the game way to serious or ***** when they lose, granted it is the same with all cards game. Yugi has a much higher "crime"(theft, cheating, ect...) rate than Magic.
I just quit Yugi and I tell ya Magic is a hella lot more fun in the long run... not to say Yugi is a bad game, but Konami is a bad company... - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
Legendary Creature - Human Wizard (MR)
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell that targets only a single opponent, copy that spell for each other opponent the spell could target. Each copy targets a different one of those opponents.
Lightning doesn't discriminate.

NOTE: I had this in a minute before the deadline!!
I like this land as a BW land. The whole "life matters" really works in those two colors. While the challenge doesn't call for the land to work in a cycle, the spirit of the theme seems to and historically dual lands have always had the same mechanics spread across the whole cycle, with only Future Sight being an exception. Still, this is an interesting take and I get a real River of Tears vibe.
This seems like a perfect card for a Battlebond-esque product. Love it. The templating probably should be: "Choose a player. That player adds R or W. That way it is a mana ability and won't use the stack (Source: Valleymaker)
This fits great as a GW land. Like I said on Mom's card, while the challenge doesn't ask you to design a cycle, I feel the theme of the month (and historically dual lands) asks you to design a land that could fit into any color combination. That said, I do feel this one could fit a bit better in any color by just changing up the cost. This is also certainly VERY powerful, as any land adding multiple mana typically are.
I have always like the Champion mechanic and felt it wasn't nearly as explored as it could have been. I really like the idea of a dual land growing from a basic. That said, the cost here is far too steep for little pay off. Using something like Rakdos Crematorium as a baseline, sacrificing land for a land typically means that new land makes an additional mana to make up for the loss of the land sacrificed. If this would have added RB, it would probably be my favorite card this round, but alas...

Land - Forest Plains (R)
Timber Meadow enters the battlefield tapped if you control a land with a land type other than Forest or Plains.
T: Add G or W.
Thanks for pointing it out, fixed!
On power level, this card seems fine if not a powerful uncommon. Mechanically I think exiling with downside (ala Path to Exile) has been typically a white effect. I do think the mechanic would play better if it destroyed instead. Also, it's weird that it doesn't mesh well with previous Golgari-guild mechanics (though this wasn't part of the challenge, just makes the flavor off). Also, by requiring colors to get the effect, it does feel like you angleshot the challenge.
Interesting card. This definitely fits into the uncommon slot as this card is pretty bad in limited but could be really interesting in the niche archetype. Certainly unique.
Major templating issues aside, this card is very weird. First, non-Legendary seems to be useless extra text. Having CC in the cost is also strange given that would be hard to hit in a limited format that doesn't specifically cater to that cost (and even in OGW, there was no card outside of Kozi that required such a high cost).
This card feels very white but I really like the effect and I like how it does play into the keywords of all the colors.
This feels much more common than uncommon. I really like how this fuels itself so any deck can use it, though it does feel like it kind of breaks the color pie by giving rampant growth to any effect (though obviously at a huge premium)
This cards unique texts and deceptive powerlevel makes this a perfect uncommon. I would have really appreciated some flavor text on such a different card.

This feels like it rangers from really terrible in a 1v1 format to making the game painfully long in multiplayer games. I do appreciate breaking out into a different design space.
Noncreatures that become creatures (outside of vehicles) haven't been used at common from what I could find. That said, even if there is a few examples, this cards extra text is also an effect outside of common
This is an interesting card. It feels very balanced. I really enjoy it. Good job.
I am not a fan of "Seals" when asked to design enchantments. I like seals, but they don't play as enchantments. As for the effect itself, it is pretty weak but within color pie and at the correct rarity.
This is quite good for a common. A 3/3 with Haste for 4 is solid but having the ability to be a 5/2, especially the turn it comes down is quite good. Still, well designed and the flavor is great.
At first I thought this card was insane but the more I looked at it the more I realized it is actually closer to poor rather than great. I could see this card being rated highly in limited to start and then slowly falling in pick orders as the meta stabilizes. Love it.

Also, when you have Cobra and Tracker, its like playing a free Divination every turn. It's glorious.
As for colorless lands, I haven't tested any. Our mana is good but certainly greedy and while I love me some Township, I don't know if the mana can support it. Again, I haven't tested, but in my games so far I have had plenty of opening starts where a colorless land would have really hurt my mana
