Go.dec posted a message on [Primer] Bant ControlWhen the board's clear it's probably the fastest win con there is, since the deck is good at wiping the board and keeping it clear/bogging it down, then you want a win condition not dependent on combat. But hey, what's results and data from dailies and tourneys mean compared to, "seems weak bro."Posted in: Standard Archives -

Frox posted a message on Best Console Evar!!!I voted for PS2. It helped bring us to where we are in the console war today, I feel like it has sold enough hardware to bridge the gap between here and the moon, and it has some of the greatest games of all time on it, especially from a first party perspective. Many of its greatest games are at the top of all time sales lists. The system finally got support cut from it just the other day in Japan when the last PS2 game ever was released. That's like a 12 year run. Best console ever.Posted in: Video Games -

Killane posted a message on new gun ban billPosted in: Debate
Why can you conservatives not get it into your heads that gun control DOES NOT EQUAL banning guns?
Only the craziest, most nutty left wingers want to actually fully ban guns. Canada doesn't ban guns- we have more guns per capita than you do!
What do we have- sensible controls on gun access. Rules on gun storage and safety. Stricter controls on assault style weapons. Limits on high capacity cartridges.
We also have something else conservatives despise- a social safety net. We don't have people who can't afford to take their anti-psychotic medication, or families who cannot afford voluntary inpatient care for potentially violent mentally ill individuals.
Gun Control alone is not the answer- you're absolutely right about that. But you damn conservatives are blocking the real answers- creating a safety net, preventing the crushing burden of true poverty, and enabling free universal healthcare and education. These are the answers, but you people are more concerned about your precious tax breaks and military budget. -

We Make the Set
Hello and welcome to the second CCC&G Pro Tour! Another season has come and gone, and we have got something exciting in store for the competitors this time around.
As the name implies, this month we will be making a set! I've gone ahead and done some of the preliminary work, so that we aren't starting with nothing. Open the spoiler to see where we're starting from:

To recap, we will be designing a small standalone set (think Coldsnap) this month! Starting from nothing but a blank canvas, we'll finish the month with something. It won't be polished. It won't necessarily even be good, but it will be a set. Think NaNoWriMo. The goal isn't to write a publishable, perfect novel in a month. It's to finish.
In our own way, this will be MaCuSetMo (MTGS Custom Set Month :uhh:).
The set skeleton I published will be fleshed out more over the next week or so into an actual set skeleton rather than just a blank slate, but we are starting from nothing. That said, your challenge for this round:
Submissions are not open until the playerlist is complete and confirmed. We'll be taking 24 players this month. The November MQs have not finished, so until that happens, just brainstorm if you think you're qualified. Remember that qualifications come through via pro points as well, so if you have done well in MQs but not won, you may also be qualified.
The Hook
Every block has its mechanical theme. Innistrad showed us just how deep the graveyard really is. Scars of Mirrodin thrust us into a war between the Mirrans and the Phyrexians. Zendikar redefined how we look at a land drop. This set too needs a compelling mechanical theme.
Your task: To create a mechanical theme to base the set around, as well as some cards to show it off. Also, design a new keyword ability (or ability word) that ties into your theme. Show us all of this with at least three cards, and no more than ten.
To be explicit, your entry needs:
1. A mechanical theme (e.g., "land set" or "graveyard set")
2. A keyword or ability word that ties into your theme (e.g., "landfall" or "flashback")
3. 3-10 cards that fit into a set with your proposed theme. Try to show off your new ability, as well.
Check the spoiler below, which will be updated as the information comes in, for your name. Please post /Confirm or something similar in this thread so that I know you're in for the month. I'll be sending PMs later on to round up the stragglers.
Bold = ConfirmedI'm nervous. This is an ambitious project, but I'm confident that twenty four of the best designers in CCC&G can pull it off! And of course, the best designer at the end will be crowned the CCC&G Pro Tour II Winner!

In reality, the card having a single CMC when not on the stack makes LOGICAL sense and removes unnecessary rules baggage to split cards.

I agree here. Less is more with Concentrated Might. I like it at uncommon personally.

Shrinking Touch is amazing. The lenticular design here is great. A+.
Concentrated Might gives me a headache. I understand what it's doing (basically turning -1/-1 counters into +1/+1 counters). I dont think this card is particularly worth the trouble it will inevitably bring.

Also, "Hour of Devastation" is not a great name for a set imo

Pontiff kills dorks. It's great in the mirror.
Voices tend to be poor. They don't help you combo nor do they help you maintain momentum like Witness does. Cut both of those. Spellskite is okay, since you have two you could stand to cut one. I personally think you want 1 available to tutor up so you can protect your combo/Linala. Pridemage is bad in the mirror. Even though Witness is not terrible, you can trim one if you still need to cut.

Legend is not suggesting that these should be printed, but rather OP doesn't understand what kind of cards make an impact in Modern. Modern, for the most part, is a synergy driven format and cards with a ton of raw power don't regularly find homes.
For example, Kitchen Finks is a strong card but it's not breaking any ceilings, however the deck it sees most play in utilizes it because it synergizes with the decks gameplan (and combo) better than something more objectively powerful like Knight of the Reliquary.
