I see the vise gone from a lot of lists now. What has changed to make this happen? Too much aggro support? Better artifacts replacing the slot? Still seems like a fairly unique ability, even if late game it may be a dead draw (not unlike Library of Alexandria).
You don't go all in on him unless it's the best/only available plan available to you. It's a 1-drop that bashes for 3 on T2, and outside of that, you don't sink mana into it unless it's "extra" mana or a play you know is going to be safe/desirable. If green contributes to the beatdown plan in your cube, it plays like a Figure of Destiny with a more impactful level 2, and that level remains relevant deeper into the game. And since there's no "cap" on the ultimate mode, it becomes a late-game mana sink that's dominating if not removed.
But then where does it slot in? Green section? 5 color special section?
How has this guy been in reality? I was surprised at how hyped up everyone is in this thread; he seems like a massive mana drain and easy easy easy removal target. This guy will take a while to get going on paper, and many other creatures aren't even considered for such things. 7 multicolor mana for 3/3 trample lifelink? I get that people really value the sort of flexibility, but just seems like a huge resource drain.
I will never quite understand the love for carnophage or sacromancy. The self-inflicted damage is a big problem, especially in black where you have so many other ways to damage yourself that are in much better cards. Is a 2/2 for 1 really worth the 1 damage per turn it deals its owner? I've just never had good experiences with them and am always happy to see opponents play them (when they were in my cube).
I am surprised to see Farseek removed from so many cubes. I consider it better than cultivate and kodama's reach because of the ability to find a dual and cast a turn faster than those two. Using up an entire turn 3 to tap out and play it can sometimes be a problem.
I think Kird Apes will actually get stronger as we keep getting more 2-power one drops. Three toughness on your one drop trumps pretty much everything at one mana and a huge number of things at two
Fully agree here, in this day n age of 2/1 and 2/2 creatures, a 2/3 for 1 mana is still a beast (ape) to deal with. Can't really see cutting him for anything currently.
Thank for the review as always. For me though it was a very disappointing set. Don't like the companion mechanic, mutate or just the flavor of the cards in general. The first set in a long time where I probably wont be adding any cards (450 cube).
This x1000. Companion just does not feel like Magic to me. Will not be including any cards with companion, which shrinks the list hard. Probably including Heartless Act (best black spot removal ever?), probably including Fiend Artisan but not sure what to cut, and maybe Wilt, but already have Nature's Chant which I think I still prefer for the color flexibility. I've already said in another thread I think Luminous Broodmoth is broken and would not be fun to play with.
Is this card as insanely slow as it looks? Beautiful artwork that I fear is wasted on such a slow card. I don't see it surviving long enough to trigger the flip almost ever with all the artifact destruction and taking 3 turns to hit.
Anyone have experience with trying to shuffle a cube that's all in top loaders? Is there any automatic shuffler that could help the process?
Had a friend that used to use top loaders way back in the day for his deck. Back when a top Type II deck was less than $500.
Easy answer, there is no easy way to shuffle a deck in top loaders. Top loaders aren't generally meant to be handled in that way so you're not going to see any solution for shuffling them. He had to break his deck part into smaller clumps and shuffle them that way. So instead of taking clusters of say... 40 cards, you would have to take clusters of 30 or even 20 and shuffle.
Hard answer, the problem is so unqiue that it requires a unique solution. It can likely be done using a microcontroller (eg Arduino) and taking some cues from the LEGO guys. But that's time and knowledge you'll need to expend for it.
Dang it......like protecting my cube as it gains in value but these toploaders make the experience very cumbersome to draft and play.
Yeah, companion is a silly rule and this card will not be going in my cube. It's not even magic really to get a free card basically that's not part of your deck. Will happily pass on shenanigans like this!

What happened here? He's no longer in your cube but still have stuff like carnophage and sacromancy, is this worse?

What has changed to make you now run this card? Is it legit?
