It's not about their value. It's about their gain. Are you going to buy 100 Mind Cranks for $.15 and hope they go up to $.50 so you can resell them for $.25? Based on one deck in Modern? That may or may not see play?
I believe JTMS will be off either at end of this year or end of next. Seems to me right now format is faster than people can make effective use out of JTMS and unlike legacy there really isn't that much of a quicker way to get him into play since most of the good mana accel is banned. Before this even happens though I'm sure Wizards will extensively playtest the format with JTMS before deciding. and we will almost certainly see him come off the list before Stoneforge.
I hope their testing is better than the FFL that led to Batterskull + SFM, Caw Blade, had Destructive Force in their Valakut decks, missed Twin, etc....
These cards could be used in a new Modern combo deck thanks to some new Gatecrash cards. It might be worth picking them up now before they jump (if they haven't already).
Speculate on recently printed commons and uncommons? For an untested theoretical Modern deck?
Just fyi regarding Aluren discussion from a month or so ago. Imperial Recruiters was just confirmed as a judge promo. Might this be the reason someone jumped on aluren a bit ago? It wouldn't surprise me if someone caught wind of the judge foil ahead of time.
Add up the values and whichever side is higher is the better deal.
Overall it looks like a fair trade and its a good deal for both sides if they got cards they were happy with
You also have to consider future value. Trading Underground Seas for Standard staples 10 years ago may have been fair value-wise. But Underground Sea have increased in value whereas those Standard staples are now bulk.
This is the wrong attitude. Potential customers are never "taking up space". They are making your store look more active, they are making their friends more likely to play at your store, and they are making themselves more likely to buy things from you. Customers are never the enemy.
Where? I just see banners, click on a banner, and get articles, but see no stats
If you go to each tournament, you can see the final standings which will include every player. The stats aren't there. You'd have to do them. For example, finals standings from the last Invitational:
I think a little more statistical analysis is necessary to figure out whats going on.
There are 5 cities where legacy is not being played on Sunday.
They are:
Orlando FL
Sommerset NJ
Dallas TX
Richmond VA
Salt Lake, UT
Does anyone know how the Legacy turn out was for those locations in previous opens?
If it turns out that those are "weaker" legacy markets and they are getting smaller number of players out for those events, it makes sense to put something in that might do better. It would also be good to know how those locations did standard or sealed wise to determine how the market is for magic in general.
You can see how many players were at all of their events in the Event Archive.
Those are the two I would expect next as well. AV will give a small boost to control and BB likely won't be an issue. Faeires is a strong deck but I don't think it will be oppressive. That's likely all they'll do next (if that even) as I doubt they'll unban more than 1 or 2 cards at a time so they can slowly develop the format... and as others pointed out aggro is strong enough right now.
That was basically my exact thought process as well.
I would not expect SFM to be unbanned either. Full disclosure, I have a set of GSZ and can see that one eventually getting unbanned as well.

No thanks.
Correct. Ben said 2013 would be Legacy, no Modern.
Then:
Which means that PretendObject thinks that they're going to phase Legacy out for Modern in 2014. Next year = 2014.
Yeah, that's what they're saying.

The at the end means he's being sarcastic.
Modern does not rotate. That's what most people mean by eternal.
