Ok, so me and a couple friends are playing and its really late and this situation comes up and we're all on different pages:
Person A has Lord of Extinction with Vampiric Link on it and he attacks person B (for lethal damage!) who has an untapped Stonehewer Giant as an available blocker.
Person B wants to declare his Giant as a blocker then tap it and get an artifact without losing any life or losing his creature. Is this possible?
P.S. Cancel sees play in block and casual games and may yet see play in Standard. Stop whining and powergaming.
Of course cancel is going to see play in block, that's one of the cards you are forced to use in the set and also one of the very few counters. Gameplay is a lot slower in block than constructed. It's like cancel being played in drafts, of course its played. Slow format with lots of bombs, 1 counter at 3 mana can counter that 5-8 mana bomb and thats totally playable.
Theres a reason its good in block but has not seen any competitive play afaik.
I'm back to not liking Forge-tenders in the SB. The only red deck I play against is jund, and when they have leeches, maelstrom pulse, deathmark etc it seems like my MD harm's way are more effective.
I would rather play something like lark or ranger of eos SB.
I still have Stillmoon and BFT in the side, they're an annoyance that BR decks have to get around. I usually go -4 Goldmeadow -3 Ajani -1 Mirrorweave and +4 BFT +4 Stillmoon. It's often a race of removal vs how many critters i can get into play. Whoever gets the edge there usually gets the game. Unless i somehow get mana short or terrible draws I usually end up on top.
There are a few jund decks here and a few BR decks as well so i think its a good idea to keep them in the side. Stillmoon seems more flexible since its usueful in a lot of matchups. BFT's use on the other hand seems pretty narrow. Its still awesome against any red deck though but does take some SB slots.
Why would you play the dual lands over the shards triple lands? The gain 1 life is pretty pointless and with the fetches there's no reason you'd want these mediocre uncommon lands to help fix you. The shards triple lands give you 3 colors and CIPT just like these duals.
I guess these are only decent in limited because i dont see these being run except in budget decks.
Splashing blue for sleep? I'm not sure about that. If you have a heavy aggro meta then it could be a good idea. If youre splashing blue for anything though it should be for meddling mages in the side.
Windbrisk heights is a pretty powerful card that lets you sneak in tokens and pumps into play for free. I wouldnt play an aggro build without it.
Yes, it is quite horrible. I really hope Zendikar brings us better merfolks than this joker. It's a rare too so it's a wasted rare merfolk slot! Better luck with uncommons/commons hopefully.
At the beginning of each end step...so you can draw 2 cards during your opponent's turn and add quest counters to it.
Still, 6 quest counters and drawing 18+ cards in order to tutor. If you drew 18 cards, i dont think you would really need to tutor anything at that point.
The second ability sucks but couple this with the available lords that we have, you could make an army of big merfolks in no time!
I would imagine CounterTop Merfolk as less aggressive but more controling.
The 2nd ability does suck pretty badly. It's similar to that elf druid that had you tap 7 druids so you could take control of an opponent's lands. If you have 7 critters on the board, the only reason you'd want to tap them is to attack.
I wouldn't see the mage in the current decklist though, he's just subpar. Zendikar will bring us other merfolk, hopefully something we can really debate about.
Speaking of new cards, what do you guys think about Mindbreak Trap?
Not only is her first ability great in that it discards and red card for 4 dmg to the dome but her ultimate allows you to play those discarded cards from the grave for free?
This makes the other Chandra from Lorwyn look fairly awful.

It's somewhat of a dissapointment that they reprinted it as a common and theyre making it textless. At least its a card we know will be used.
Pulse could also have been an option and it has a nice price too. Oh well.

Affinity for vampires?

I think they unbanned it. Or am I looking at an old list?
The link in the FAQ is outdated too.
The foils of these lands are going to be beautiful!
It's safe to say a good percentage of people will want the U/R fetch. Anything with blue is often fairly sought after...
