As someone who read the first Ravnica block's novels, I'm kinda upset by the notion of Augustin IV being associated with the term "great leader".
Although, the quote is most likely his own, so it's definitely in-character.
'^^
I'm mainly just posting this because, while Karlov's card on its own makes it clear he's a bad guy, people who know nothing about Augustin IV might think he was a good guy just going by the card.
; )
You won't scry off Path of Ancestry with Atarka Efreet unless Nassari is on the battlefield. Outside the battlefield (and the stack when casting Nassari), your commander's creature type is Djinn Wizard.
Thanks, that's what I assumed. : /
EDIT: Silly me, somehow it never occurred to me (and apparently never came up in a game I played or watched..?) that even a commander card's characteristics being changed will affect how other cards react to that (duh).
EDIT EDIT: Pretty sure I'm wrong about 2b) and 2c)... '^^
Huh. So if 1) is correct, I like these commanders a lot more than I did at first, even if it's a bit annoying that in any zone other than the battlefield I'd (technically, as in while playing on a software instead of a physical table) always see the front face of the card, even if the back is my commander.
'^^
The card is considered face up in all zones when not in play, which is why the face down side cannot be a commander, but you can still cast the face down side any time you could cast the face up side assuming you can pay the costs.
Has it been officially stated anywhere that the backside can be acknowledged as the commander gameplaywise? I understand you'll get both sides' color identities "unlocked", but other than that I'm pretty sure only the frontside will register while the card is in the command zone.
If I'm wrong, I hope MTG Forge will implement it properly.

The front side is the commander but you can still cast the other side.
These look like a lot of fun for casual games. I hope more DFC are on this level in the future.
From zones other than your hand? Does that also work if you suspend a MDFC with Jhoira of the Ghitu or cascade into them?
Also, can you have the backside of a MDFC commander facing up while the card is in the command zone for cards that refer to other aspects of your commander than their CI?
Was anyone else hoping for two different Elf Warrior tokens, one for each tribe, like how we got different Eldrazi Spawn tokens representing the different progenies?

So, please correct me if I'm wrong:
1) Once Nassari, Dean of Expression is on the battlefield, paying for an Atarka Efreet with Path of Ancestry will let me Scry.
2) If my regular commander on the battlefield gets turned down (say via Ixidron), I won't
2a) Scry off of Path of Ancestry
2b) get any mana from Command Tower
2c) pay any life to draw a card from War Room.

No I won't scry or no I'm not right?

Okay, so I can use Nassari, Dean of Expression as my commander, but paying for an Atarka Efreet with Path of Ancestry won't let me Scry 1 then, right?

If I'm not mistaken, though, only the front-side of those MDFCs can be the commander, right?
At least it has both color identities.

Yeah, pretty weird that Hero of Bretagard doesn't become legendary at the end, at least flavorwise...
Damn, I wrote "2 mana", didn't I? That would be nuts.

Hahaaa! X D
Oh, but that would have to be Segovian Elves on non-Segovian Hamsters, no? Planeswalking seems necessary for that to happen.

Also, is there any four-legged mammal Elves *won't* ride?
