MadRobot posted a message on [LCI][CUBE] Cenote ScoutIf this were a straight up 2/2 with surveil 1 it would be absolutely nuts, but the fact that it's a 1/1 ~40% of the time hurts its viability significantly. If I'm playing aggro, I do NOT want my Isamaru turning into an Elvish Visionary instead. And if I'm playing midrange, I would rather have a dork than either an aggro beater or a +1 CA. Don't get me wrong, this card is incredibly solid. But the competition among green 1-drops is so ridiculously stiff that I can't see Cenote Scout displacing any of the current ones.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion -

wtwlf123 posted a message on [CUBE][WOE] Heartflame DuelistI think it doesn't get much talk because Boros is one of the strongest and deepest guilds in the cube, and competition is too stiff.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
Out of my top 6-7 Boros cards for the cube, I think your list only includes 1 of them.
Forth Eorlingas!, Comet, Stellar Pup, Rip Apart, Figure of Destiny, Éomer, King of Rohan, Otharri, Suns' Glory, and Riders of Rohan would be my top 7, I think. The guild goes really deep with a lot of competitive options (FE! and Comet being arguably two of the best multicolored cards in the cube!) so I'm unsure if there are many cube managers that feel starved for good options in that guild at the moment.
Just my $0.02. -

MadRobot posted a message on [CUBE][WOE] Quick StudyPosted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
With the steady rise in draw power at 4 mana, an instant speed Divination had seemed all but inevitable. Thirst for Discovery is a respectable card, and while Quick Study doesn't get you as deep into your deck, you are guaranteed the +1 in CA. To me, it's not too late for a card like this to be run, but what are everyone else's thoughts? -

steve_man posted a message on [CUBE][WOE] Kellan, the Fae-Blooded // Birthright BoonDefinitely an interesting card. I'm always looking for more equipment matters type things since there aren't any good ones outside of Stoneforge Mystic. It's also worth noting that this can tutor for Splinter Twin, which generally lacks tutors within its native colors other than Recruiters.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion -

steve_man posted a message on [CUBE][WOE] The Goose MotherPosted in: Cube Card and Archetype DiscussionQuote from Blue_Oneironaut »Great p/t scaling but I prefer the hydroid even at 4 mana. Our U/G decks tend to win off of their cast and etb triggers to out-value the opponent than just swatting for big damage on the attack step. In fact, attacking may prove a liability since this color combo is more passive here.
These days I'd much rather have a 4/4 flyer + a food token than a 2/2 with flying and trample, draw 1 / gain 1. This is a legitimate threat and can really pressure planeswalkers. I think a lot of people are ignoring the fact that this is a 3/3 flyer for 1UG that can potentially draw a card next turn, which is a pretty good deal. Being able to create a sizeable threat later in the game while leaving 2 mana open to leave up a counter or crack the food is also really important. Scaleable square stats with flying is unprecedented as far as I'm concerned.
Things like Pest Infestation / Occult Epiphany / Light up the Night / etc have really raised the bar for scaleable threats in the sense that they're good even at lower parts of the curve. There's also a good amount of green that produces artifacts now, which makes it a nice color to pair alongside critical mass artifact strategies. The value of The Goose Mother can go down a bit if you're not playing initiative. I play A LOT of initiative, making this much more appealing to me than Hydroid Krasis. -

LucidVision posted a message on [WHO][CUBE] The FluxOutpost siege underperformed for me when I tested it (I was super high on it because I loved it in standard), but having an ETB that effects the battlefield immediately is a sizable upgrade over that.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
Unfortunately, a lot of time has passed since outpost seige was a maybe for cubes.
My instinct tells me it won’t make the cut, but it’s reallly close. A midrange deck should be happy with this and it seems 23rd playable in Agro/ramp. I’ll likely test.
I wish it hit creatures or planeswalkers -

steve_man posted a message on [CUBE][WOE] Moonshaker CavalryCraterhoof is good because it has haste and has synergies with Natural Order / green's natural ability to ramp. Without those synergies, I think this is much worse compared to something like Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, which also still a decent cheaty face target where this is not.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
I wonder if there will be some sort of "cavalry" cycle... -

Low opportunity cost to slot in a deck, but high opportunity to take up a cube slot, IMO.
In fact I recently cut Otawara, Soaring City for this particular reason. I've found its channel side is rarely used and its primarily to bounce an Uro/ Fatty.
I ended up liking Otawara a lot and ultimately replaced Venser for it in the long term. Being instant speed and essentially uncounterable removal makes it much more high impact than things like this and MDFC / cycling type cards like this. Also helps more reactive strategies, which I'm trying to support more. -
