Hmmmmm, I'm glad I held off on buying Kykar, Wind's Fury this deck gave me 2 potential Jeskai pillowfort generals and I don't know who I'll want to use to lead that build.
Seriously, there are times I don't know what would happen if Magic players were given nothing to whine about. Magic is releasing ludicrous amount of products in a year. Don't like these? Wait a few months and see what the Brawl decks look like and if there's anything you want out of those. At this point, when there's a product I don't really want I'm almost grateful because it means it's one less thing I have to worry about where my Magic budget is concerned.
The level of entitlement from some folks is outrageous.
Gavin Verhey HIMSELF admitted last years decks were underwhelming in terms of reprints, so if a Wizards employee ADMITS a mediocre product, why can’t you? You confuse “entitlement” with REASONABLE expectations to not receive yet another mediocre product. Gavin Verhey himself also acknowledged the players complaints were heard and indicated that would be remedied this year, and so far, we’ve not seen ANY evidence of this through the first two decks, although there’s still quite a bit to reveal. I for one don’t like it when someone tells me one thing and does another, especially when it comes to addressing concerns.
There are plenty of midprice staples that could use more printings. NO ONE IS ASKING FOR, OR EXPECTING $25 or $30 singles. There are however tons of staples in the $7-$12 range that people would love to see.
Now, not all these cards may fit within the themes we’re getting, but a great many of them are very neutral in their applications. And, maybe we’ll still see some of these, particularly Anointed Procession and Parallel Lives when we get to that deck.
You say people are entitled. I say, have higher standards and stop settling.
I really wish I had your level of energy to get worked up over this. I have real problems to deal with. If I'm not interested in a product I don't buy it. Nobody's putting a gun to my head. As to this point about people not asking for super expensive reprints I've seen people on this very forum demanding things like Jace, Vryn's Prodigy, Teferi, Temporal Archmage and Oracle of Mul Daya, shock and fetchlands etc. All of which disprove that point.
Regardless, the OP asked if this was a bust after a single deck got spoiled and I noted we don't have enough information for that determination. Lo and behold, more interesting stuff is already coming down the pipeline.
And for me, this definitely isn't a bust, just doesn't seem aimed at me.

Well, Teferi is unlikely as it is a Planeswalker that can be your Commander, which is exceptional and tied to a theme. Baby Jace is even more unlikely as it is a flip card and it's very rare to just print one of those (Nicol Bolas, the Ravager being the one counterexample I can think of).
They printed daretti in breya.
But he wasnt' a flip. Apparently it's quite hard to do one off flippers in supplemental product like this and Teferi, other than untapping things doesn't have much directly to go along with this deck. And they probably wanted to avoid people snapping up the deck for a 30 dollar card.

No where in my OP was there a complaint. I stated facts, asked questions, and asked opinions. Critical analysis and thought provoking discussion is essential to a quality product and also applies to many positive factors outside of MTG in life.
Yes, it is likely I'll be personally skipping this year of the Commander decks. But there is still always room to discuss how things can be better. There's nothing "entitled" about asking questions and bringing a productive conversation to light. You're literally the one complaining right now.
I don't know if your post is targeted at OP. If it isn't, it would probably be a good idea to use the "Quote" feature to avoid any confusion.
If you weren't complaining, then why were you heated enough to respond? If it's not about you, ignore it and move on. That said, I've been here for years buddy, don't let the new account fool you. I've seen this song and dance a million times over. What I will say is that when you start by asking a loaded question like your OP without anything close to the full information to actually judge it, that looks like complaining to me that you want plausible deniability for.
well the second deck in the batch does already have a planty of more interesting and kinda more powerful cards than the one from yesterday, maybe we just saw the weak one of the batch.
Lo and behold the wonders of having a fuller picture before jumping to conclusions.
Into play tapped without a counter? So a full turn for four mana without jumping through hoops to get just 1 mana?
**** this thing and its lazy design
I disagree. This is the kind of card that certain players (ie: players like me) love messing around with for style points. Yeah it's inefficient. Most games of EDH are that way. There are so many ways to get fun things going with this and it's a great way to teach newer players about card interactions right out of the gate. Nevermind that if they want to learn about efficiency this card also teaches that by how it compares to other cards that have been mentioned here. I'd actually say this is pretty interesting design... if you consider that not every card is or can be designed to be exceptionally powerful on its own.
Why in the spells based deck we have a creature based commander?
Though I get its good to stop from everyone hating on you but it just feels like such a waste of the tricolor legendary slot.
Could be cool for a group hug based deck tho... If you have a way of making sure the person who can attack you never receives the benefits.
Have you ever played a spell or pillowfort based deck in EDH? people get real suspicious of a blue player not playing creatures and they target you in a hurry. This comes down and funnels aggression in a way you can manage. It's playing on a long tradition of Jeskai using politics, pillowfort strategies and protection mechanics to draw out games. This makes total sense in a spells deck. Gum up the ground, limit your opponent's ability to attack you while you build up resources.
As for me, I've been looking at building a Jeskai pillowfort deck for some time. I could see this leading that deck but I'm not sure it's better than Kykar, Wind's Fury. Need to see more.

We have literally had one deck spoiled so far. Some folks here need to chill out. Especially when, from a newer player's perspective, this deck still has some interesting stuff in it. Between the mana base, Thran Dynamo (a card newer players may not have had a chance at), Seedborn Muse (7 bucks is still too much for that card) the new cards and having a cohesive theme this actually looks miles ahead of last year especially when one of the main complaints was that the decks didn't actually feel like what they said they'd be with the Lord Windgrace deck being the stand out example. This meanwhile feels like exactly what you expect a Morph deck to be.
But that last one at least would put the deck on easy mode building wise and deprive a player of recognizing how good it is.
It's too early to call this stuff a bust. Let's at least wait until all the decks come out (I'm not going to say "until you play with them" because I find that argument disingenuous) but let's hold off with the torches and pitchforks until we actually have the broader scope of information here.
I saw some things where folks thought Gerard might be here. I was not expecting a Boros Eggs commander as some other folks have noted but I'm cool with it. I've been considering taking on a 32 deck building challenge (I'd just create the lists, probably wouldn't actually build them) and was joking about putting a boros aristocrats list on there just to see if it could be done. Gerard here could make it more than reasonable.
I'm expecting a rapunzel call out and Merlin in the court. I'll be overjoyed if we get a figure trapped in an apple tree as a Lignify type spell in reference to Merlin's ultimate fate in the mythos. Also references to the knights. I can see a cycle of legendary knights relating to some of the most famous members of the round table.
I've considered all of those but wasn't sure if I wanted them in the list. I'll go and add them to the maybe piles to consider.
@speedstar, I like the Congregation at Dawn. I was looking at Shared Summons but this is so much better.
Don't know how I feel about Cascading Cataracts. It was in an original sketch of the deck but I found I never had trouble getting mana of the right colors that I needed to filter through it when goldfishing.
For both of you, I'll see if I've got an Alchemist Refuge. I know it's not much but I feel like I've got a copy around somewhere and I'd hate to have to buy it. I appreciate the help with the top end beef as well.

I didn't see this in the Sultai list. Did I miss something?
I've got 2 words for you. Boros. Aristocrats Definitely gonna try it out at least for the purposes of experimentation. (Boros Eggs would also be cool)

Are there some reprints they definitely could have thrown in? Heck yeah.
Rhystic Study/Mystic Remora
Vedalken Orrery
Cloudstone Curio (as others have said)
