Hey folks, taking my Mono Green Aggro to the LGS Modern Event tonight, excited to see how it goes.
I definitely look forward to testing Syr Faren once he is available. I came up with a question though,
and I thought, you guys can surely help. Hope you don't mind me asking here
So say I play:
T1 Experiment One
T2 Syr Faren + Attack with E1
T3 I slap Rancor onto Syr Faren and attack with Faren + E1.
Opponent declares no blockers so after that I kick Vines of Vastwood onto Faren.
Will my E1 still get +8 or just +4 for the attack?
I guess it comes down to: Does "whenever this creature attacks" only consider
Faren's strength the moment I declare the attack is it "extended" to include
the +4 from Vines still?
I don't know the meta I am going into, so not sure on Sideboard upgrades.
Marsh Flats are above budget for now, so I thought of another mana base upgrade.
thought I‘d turn to you for some advice! I am pretty hyped as I will be playing my first lgs modern event and decided to bring my mono Green Deck. For this one, I actually stuck pretty close to the one that @FourSkinrender posted a while back. I have been getting some sweet results, even against some pretty fast decks that my friends play. Here‘s what it looks like.
Now that a bit more serious games are coming up, I noticed that I hadn‘t ever really payed attention to one thing... Mulliganing. I just sort of went with what felt okay, without really following a rule of thumb. Like are three lands in my opening hand too much? How many one drops do I want (especially in such a low cmc deck)? Does a missing E1 always mean a mulligan? And so on and so forth.
So would you guys have and advice on that? I found an older link in this thread which said the writer had some solid tips, however it has expired since.
Looking very much forward to your feedback!
Cheers

PS My list is lacking the SB for now as I am still shifting cards around a bit;)
That deck also requires a lot of cards to actually combo. They can't mulligan down to too few cards. It requires Allosaurus Rider + 2 green spells + Neoform + at least 1 mana source, if one of the green spells was also a Chancellor Of The Tangle.
I know I just posted my SB on this page of the thread, but since there was a banning I have changed it quite a bit.
I substituted the 2 Blossoming Defense for 2 Dismember in the MD. I've played a few more random 2 player queue matches but I'll probably jump in a League finally tomorrow and/or Friday. I've been busy the last couple days and was waiting for the ban info.
Anyone else been jamming Barkhide Troll? Whoops, just realized M20 isn't out in paper until Friday.
Really have to thank you for sharing your original deck list here, it encouraged me to make some changes to mine. Now I'm looking forward to testing it against a friend's Goblin Eight Whack.
And I can't stress enough how lucky I was in deciding to pick up a playset of Hexdrinker three days ago. The price has spiked more than ten bucks a card since then... Yikes!
Alright, it's me again. Had a great time playing against Eight Whack Goblins! For timing reasons, I had to run Burrenton Forge-Tender instead of Auriok Champion, but still I was able to take roughly 60% of all games played.
One thing I also noticed was that I should replace my 4 Caves of Koilos as soon as possible. I suppose I could go for 4 Silent Clearing, as I was flooding quite some games, and also since I don't yet feel like buying Fetches and Shrines (budget again).
Up next I will probably also face a friend's GR Aggro(ish) deck quite a lot, running cards like Atarka's Command, Dryad Militant and Pyroclasm. Would it be smart to go for a bit more discard to try and prevent the surprise blocks with Atarka's or board wipes?
Really looking forward to your helpful answers as always

Again thanks so much for the helpful feedback guys, really appreciate it! I will work with what I‘ve got for now, some Eight Whack Games coming up this weekend. Playset of Fatal Push is already in the mail. Will make sure to report afterwards:)
I recently got back into playing and have put myself together the deck listed below. I really enjoy playing BW Tokens, especially since it can give a friend's Goblin Eight Whack a run for the money.
Now I was wondering how to further upgrade the deck within a reasonable budget and thought it would probably done best with Lands. So I wanted to ask for some advice from you guys on what is the best way to go for that. And especially the order in which to do it. 4x Godless Shrine? Fetches? 4x Silent Clearing?
first time posting here. After a break of about ten years, I've recently started playing again and just love it still. I got one of Saffron Olive's Super Budget Standard Decks, which is Gruul Haste, to get back into things. Now I am looking to kick it up a notch and take this Standard Deck into Modern, while still focusing on staying on a lean budget. I do not have a fixed amount of money for that. And I was wondering if you guys might be able to help with some suggestions as to what cards to pick up next The Deck currently looks like this:
Now first thing that came to my mind was something like Rootbound Crag to quicken the mana base a bit and switching Shock with Lightning Bolt but other than that, I remain entirely overwhelmed by all the possibilities in which to take the deck. So like I said, I am grateful for any advice.
For reference – I will take the deck to mainly play against 8 Whack and Mono Green Aggro for now. So speed will be of the essence

I am about to head into my first LGS Modern Event next week. My budget allows for one more round of improvement for the following deck list.
2 Auriok Champion
Planeswalkers
3 Sorin, Solemn Visitor
Spells
3 Duress
4 Inquisition of Kozilek
4 Path to Exile
4 Fatal Push
4 Raise the Alarm
4 Lingering Souls
4 Spectral Procession
4 Intangible Virtue
Lands
4 Concealed Courtyard
4 Windswept Heath
2 Caves of Koilos
2 Shambling Vent
1 Vault of the Archangel
10 Plains
1 Swamp
2 Auriok Champion
2 Burrenton Forge-Tender
2 Timely Reinforcements
2 Disenchant
2 Tormod's Crypt
2 Zealous Persecution
3 Pithing Needle
I don't know the meta I am going into, so not sure on Sideboard upgrades.
Marsh Flats are above budget for now, so I thought of another mana base upgrade.
Should I go for 4x Godless Shrine?
Or rather a 2/2 split of Godless Shrine and Silent Clearing?
Or perhaps something else I have been overlooking?
Feedback is very welcome!

Basically, it all came down to me being able to answer his Legion Loyalist in time. Zealous Persecution turned out to be just the card you want when facing all those Foundry Street Denizen.

Following your advice, my deck and sideboard might look something like this:
3 Sorin, Solemn Visitor
Spells:
4 Inquisition of Kozilek
4 Path to Exile
4 Raise the Alarm
4 Gather the Townsfolk
4 Lingering Souls
4 Spectral Procession
2 Secure the Wastes
3 Zealous Persecution
4 Intangible Virtue
4 Concealed Courtyard
4 Caves of Koilos
4 Windswept Heath
2 Shambling Vent
2 Godless Shrine
1 Vault of the Archangel
7 Plains
2 Disenchant
2 Timely Reinforcements
2 Auriok Champion
2 Tormod's Crypt
2 Stony Silence
2 Fatal Push
I take it, it should include even more Fetches to justify running only 2 Godless Shrine, right? Cut the Cave of Koilos for that?
As for beating Whack, I would probably take in 2 Fatal Push and 2 Timely Reinforcements for... 4 Raise the Alarm? And Auriok Champion could replace Secure the Wastes I guess?
