The deck is fairly low mana cost... most of the time: 3/4 mana is plainty enough
"23 lands" has been good for me so far. I rarely had issues with it.

Answering your question without seeing your deck isn't easy; but in my case, against TS what I would do is: remove go for the throat. 1 lili, one or two sphinxy..., add the 2 DOJ, and the Divine Offering spells (a great cards against art) -- RB can be nice too at 1 or 2.
Against heavy artifacts; Divine Offering is really nice! Especially when you flashed it back using snappy
-- If you have an extra O-Ring in your SB you may want to consider it too.
-----
The problem with steel sabotage against TS is that: the artifact aren't really your main concern, what's really lethal in this deck is the support it provides (hence the name)...
Oh and tragic slip --> great to take care of the early/unboosted signal pest...
-----
Note: in the modification from 2.6 -> 2.7 one of the main modification done to the deck is the removal of dissipate which got replaced by tragic slip...
I found that keeping the board clear was more useful than dissipating them... Also: works nicely against inkmoth -
Feb 14, 2012kandjar posted a message on W/U/B SolarisSteel Hellkit is subject to too many removals: art removal, dismember, ... It feels like there are better choices out there + he needs to hit to do anything...Posted in: Kandjar Blog
As 5 CMC, I'm actually considering: Havengul Lich -- But I don't know what to remove yet.
Regarding Lingering Souls, it's a fantastic card, but I don't think it fits in this deck. Also the sorcery speed can be bothersome. -
Feb 7, 2012kandjar posted a message on W/U/B SolarisI really liked BSZ against the current meta (very aggro w/ lots of small creatures) which is very often cast with X = 1 or 2 (so at most a DoJ cost).Posted in: Kandjar Blog
I'm actually switching w/ DoJ it between the SB and the MB.
Also: ponder turned out pretty good. Much better than I expected.

Regarding Timely Reinforcement: I tried it; and I don't like it.
One of the main reason is: it's a sorcery speed where the deck is plays as a draw-go style (until you hard cast a fatty).
I prefer a pro-active defense (kill/counter/sacr...).
The worst thing is: having it countered. You get left defenseless to threat and you opponent can usually cast what he wants the following turn.
Finally, one of the worst deck to go against is a delver deck; and the soldier don't fly... therefore cannot help to defend. -
Feb 2, 2012kandjar posted a message on W/U/B SolarisAfter trying reducing the number of snappy adding think twice in exchange; I went back to 3...Posted in: Kandjar Blog
And took out think twice again...
However, instead of going back to 4 forbidden alchemy, I stayed at 3 (not sure if it's the best thing to do yet) and increased the number of unburial rites from 2 to 3.
I too often want to have this card in my hand... 2 doesn't seem to be enough... (note: I quite often uses the drownyard against myself).
I also added 2 BSZ to the SB which turned out quite useful against Delver match-up. -
Jan 16, 2012kandjar posted a message on W/U/B SolarisI was actually considering: dropping 1 dissipate for 1 more mana leak....Posted in: Kandjar Blog
I still like dissipate, especially against snappy decks, or mirror match.... It's nice to make sure the spell isn't coming back
But 3 seems too much... I'm going to first try with 2. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
But now that you mentioned it, being to have a thematic deck, finding 'cute' tricks/interaction is even more appealing
It's time for research
Does blue/green have any blink effect? (other than bounce to hand then recast)
Considering PSZ eob, she's definitively gonna shine in multiplayer Would a Vorel deck also be good in multiplayer format?
- Experiment Kraj
- Prime Speaker Zegana
- Fathom Mage -- Prerelease art being one of my all time favorite
- Novijen Sages
- Cytoplast Manipulator
and then... I started to wonder, if Vorel really the commander I want here??? Wouldn't Prime Speaker being much better in that role?
I mean: most of the other creatures either won't have much synergy with the commander or won't be really good for commander...
Well there's definitively exception such as: Gyre Sage or Everflowing chalice, and yet I'd be affraid to go infinite
[Note: I don't like infinite combos, so I always break them if I discover one in my EDH deck]
Any thoughts? Which commander is more recommended for fun / somewhat strong deck?
That said; black does have answers to control in term of 1 mana discard: Inquisition of Kozilek or Thoughtseize. Maybe that's the answer: load up you sideboard with more discard spell.
Having been tired of the Standard format as the format felt more or less the same over these past years... Overall, not very appealing;
On the other hand, my interest in Modern format kept increasing and I would love to jump into some Modern competition.
Looking at my personal library I stumbled on my playset of Tezzeret; so I started to homebrew a deck with him.
Once done, I looked online to see if there were existing modern decks to compare it to and see if I was missing some staple cards
I was super happy to discover this thread. Great job on this primer.
That said; I do have a few questions, and apologize in advance if this has already been discussed in the previous pages:
- Has anyone consider Ensoul Artifact?
- Counter spells aren't really used in these builds (remand, leak, negate...); any particular reasons for this?
- What about Mortapod? It's true that overall, it's two mana for an not too appealing equipment, however it's a great target for Tezzeret (or Ensoul) while allowing you to take care of threat like: Delver, Young pyro, dark confident...
- Finally assuming a Grixis build; what about a one or two of "Shrapnel Blast"?
Xenagos is not only a planeswalker, but also a god!?...
2 Kiora's Follower and:
- 1 Judge of Current for inf line
- 1 Stonybrook Schoolmaster for infinite 1/1s
(Not sure if this is the right forum for this)
I just noticed that Stoneforge Mystic has more than doubled its price in the last month...
Any reason for this change?
Thank,
Kandjar
Assuming the Junk Diver and Scarecrone are on the battlefield, the opponent plays Days of Judgment, can Junk Diver target scarecrone? (they die at the same time)
Thanks,
Kandjar
- Grove of the Burnwillows
- Zhur-Taa Druid
I understand that they are both mana ability.
That said, I'm just curios, couldn't have Zhur been written as:
"t: add G to your mana pool. Zhur deals 1 damage to each opponent" instead of having this ability splitted in two: a mana ability and a trigger ability ???
I guess the difference is that:
- if you want to play a non-flash creature; after adding all the mana to your mana pool, you HAVE TO let Zhur's second ability resolve.. and therefore give your opponent a chance to respond before using your mana. With card like Mana Short.
Whereas for Burnwillow, you cannot respond to the life gain unless some ability triggered due to that effect. For example, if your opponent has Drogskol Reaver" target="blank">Drogskol Reaver on the battlefield.
Thanks,
Kandjar
I'm not disagreeing with the fact the scry is a very nice ability.
It just that these lands do not feel 'rare' for me, they feel uncommon (Yes, I know that New Benalia" target="blank">New Benalia already exist as uncommon).
As you mentioned: the value of putting something at the bottom is huge. Which is why: if these lands in order to come untapped were giving my opponent(s) the ability to scry, it would feel like a decent draw back.
"Enter the battlefield tapped unless you let your opponent scry 1"
Or:
"Enter the battlefield tapped unless you let your opponent scry 1, if ~ enters the battlefield tapped, scry 1"
--
Even though I think scry is a strong ability, I still feel don't feel these lands should have been rare.
Quite handy when he get condemned or oblationed
* Doubling Season is only beneficial for you! [I admit: I didn't realize that when I first got that card...]
* Doubling Season is fun (broken?) with planeswalkers [But new people don't quite understand how it works... and it's a pain to explain each time you use it...]
* Doubling Season also works with charge counters!...
However, this one won't kill Belligerent Hatchling when he enters... or Kitchen Finks when its persist ability resolves Is the trade of worth it? ... mmm... guess
