    Here's my decklist:

I've found death clouds work better out of the board in my metagame(quite aggro), otherwise I don't have a set in stone sideboard yet.
The one putrefy over a third pulse was because I was afraid of splinter twin, but I haven't actually ran into it once so I need another pulse to replace it.
After playing with the deck for a wee while, I've found I agree with a lot of people in this thread about stirring wildwood being better than treetop. That's another card I need to get though.
Last thing about my own decklist, I've found township amazing and have been considering going to three. I strongly urge anyone playing a build with souls to at least consider it.

On liliana 3: I really like the card, and would consider testing her, but liliana otv has been amazing for me.

Profane command: Another card I really like, I've been trying to make it work in other formats since it left standard but it just hasn't. If you're having better results with it I approve, and please tell me how it's working out.

Dismember: Seems really good for this deck, I would probably run it in a different meta.

Thragtusk: I'm still not sure on this guy, but I will be picking some up and testing them.

Altar's reap: is not a card I like, I think cards that give card advantage while improving board presence are better than card draw in this deck.

I'm not trashing the idea, but I'm standing by the fact that there is no reason to play monoblack in standard unless you are going very aggro, or you really need Corrupt, Mind Sludge, or Gatekeeper of Malakir to even think about running monoblack. If not, you're folding yourself back.

You're statement is correct, I'm not trying to argue against it, but, we aren't discussing trying to win a pro-tour. We are discussing the possibility of playing mono-black in standard in general. I see where you're coming from, and I would splash explore or mana leak, if nothing else, in the deck I posted if I was trying to be as competitive as possible, but that is not the point of this discussion.
Excuse the crap sentence structure, I can't be bothered fixing it lol.

i like mimic vat + moriok replica as a draw engine, mostly because they're good independently and have good synergy together.

That's a good idea. It does bring up the issue of life gain though since that engine is basically suicide against aggro without it.

How is that better than a B/G or B/U deck that does the same thing?

I never said it was, but the general idea behind that deck is one that I have wanted to play at fnm for a while(obviously without the scars cards). The point of posting it was to add to the thread, and maybe send the discussion the direction that the o.p. intended (looking at making a black deck, however uncompetitive it may be, instead of just trashing the idea.).

don't do it. if you don't know what to play make two decks to try out then after finding out what works combine the 2. playing a 80 card deck just means that certain cards will never come up and you'll never know if they are worth running.

Got it, I'm going to play some magic in a few hours. I'll keep the deck as is (with the exception of changing sledge for warhammer) and take a pile of cards that could go in and change the deck between games.

Well, the deck seems like it wants to be aggressive with the war monk and finks, but then it seems like it wants to stretch the game a bit with Sakura-Tribe Elder and Thornling.

The biggest flaw here is the lack of removal. Pridemage and Bant charm work alright, but 4 Oblivion Ring or some instant speed removal seem like good choices.

Since it's multiplayer, anything that wipes the board is useful due to the card advantage it provides. Vigilance is also really helpful, allowing you to attack and still have a blocker. Finally, shroud is difficult to deal with, so something like Wall of Denial on defense with Simic Sky Swallower on offense would be fun.

This deck isn't fully agressive and I find it has a lot of uses for lots of mana (equipment, colossus, anthem, thornling, and i intend to get some wwk manlands) Think gb evles, the aggro deck which ran 24 lands+civic wayfinder & llanowar elves to support colossus, profane command and manlands.

I agree with the removal thing but oblivion ring never seems to stay in play long in my playgroup, I have paths I could throw in though.

Board wipes are very good, but I built this deck to be a change from control so I'd like to not include sweepers(for once)

Vigilance.yes.Just not sure what vigilant creatures/vigilance granters I'll include yet.

The shroud idea seems fun but I'd like to be able to put equipment on all the creatures in this deck, though I'd love to run some trollshroud.

    like it.

could use more creature wipe with wrath of god or swords to plowshares.

the deck needs more evasion. you've got the thornling and the sledge but everybody else will just be busting their heads on defenders. maybe either wonder or rancor if you've got them.

    marshalls anthem seems pretty weak.

stonforge mystic doesn't need to be 4 of but the pridemage could very easily be upped.

lastly the mana base. i'd run 4 tribe elders, 4 terramorphic expanse and more basics.

@meteorainer i disagree about the war monks. i think i multiplayer they can play more of a defensive roll.

    With removal, same as above.

I have one wonder I could include, perhaps this deck would be the place for that enchantment that gives all your creatures flying for 4?

Marshal's anthem does come across as a little weak, but I havn't given it much playtime yet and it seems like it could be epic mid-late game. It may come out but I would like to play the deck with it included for a wee-while

I agree on the mystic/pridemage, the split would be the other way around but I couldn't find my last pridemage. I'll have to get another one.

I agree on the manabase, STEve and the tri-land are only 3-ofs because once again I couldn't find my fourth.

Yes, rhox war monk is awesome.

Also, solas makes b.sledge fall off so I think I'll remove it for a warhammer.

With all this in mind I think I'll make the deck larger (80-100 cards) for now so I can decide what I like. I think I'll include some card draw like fact or fiction, mulldrifter and more momentous fall so it odesn't get too diluted.
I'll post my new list once I've done some testing.

Thank you both for the very well thought out advice.

molten disaster seems like a good sweeper/win condition. And I never thought I'd suggest this for a maindeck but you could run dragon's claw with a bunch of cards that deal damage to each creature and player to get a life edge on your opponents
