Has anyone posted a sideboard guide recently? I'm brand new to the deck and the format so I don't really know which cards are good or bad for each matchup. Heck I don't even know the matchups!
I don't think anything will/should "change the fate" of blue based control decks. People have kept saying control is bad in Modern for years and will continue to do so. It's just not true. You can win with blue based midrange/control decks in Modern. So I don't know what you guys are trying to come across when talking about "significantly make the deck better" or "change the fate of the deck". Not sure what your expectations are. There ain't going to be an "I win" card for control, that's just not how control works. That would be Ad Nauseam or Scapeshift. Control can have powerful finishers (and Jace is, indeed, very powerful), but no matter how powerful, they're not going to win the game on their own. Victories usually come from finding the right answers to what our opponent is doing.
I felt my question was self-explanatory, but if you'd like me to elaborate that's fine. If I am going to make a $60+ purchase on a card(s) that is being hyped as being JTMS replacement in this deck, I want to make sure that A: It's not just because the only person putting up results (so far) is really really good and could win with 4 snapcasters + a ham sandwich. And B: That said cards significantly improve matchups where JTMS is poor. I'm not saying Jeskai is bad. I just want the deck to be the best it can be. So I ask questions.
Ben Nikolich was already putting up numbers pre and post JTMS unban.
So my question is: Does the new Planeswalker significantly make the deck better? It just seems like another high-costed finisher in a land of high-costed finishers.
I'm thinking of trying trickbind in the sideboard for the control and combo matchups.
It's cheaper than nimble obstructionist and can also be flashed back. It can stop gigadrowse at the end of your turn and still be available for snap the next turn. Counterflux can't do that. Of course there's also a billion other uses for a virtually uncounterable stifle from vial activations to titan triggers. Thoughts?
You're basically at a stock list -1 Clique +1 Geist. The only thing that stands out are the rejections. I think you want at least 2 Disdainful stroke before your first rejection. Unless maybe you have a lot of Lantern control where you are? I don't see anything wrong with an Elspeth or a Gearhulk or something large as a late-game finisher or even in the board for grindy matchups..
I think with 4 path, 2 spell snare, sideboard sweepers including Anger that you wouldn't have to worry about voice.
Can we discuss the 5th place list running through the breach?
It's essentially the same Jeskai Tempo shell with an oops, I win button in place of quller/geist.
I think the 4 Opt are great here as you basically play from turn 3 on as a flash deck. The only issue I saw was Patrick having a hard time finding his second piece. It's not compact like Nahiri, so you essentially have 8 dead cards in your deck until at least turn 5. I guess the search for Azcanta helps.
I think you're comparing apples to oranges (your list vs a list with shoals). In Ashton's list there are 8 pitch-able one-drops, 15 pitch-able two-drops (if you don't count the first shoal), and 6 pitch-able three drops. If I am tapped out I would be happy to lose a shoal and delver in hand to protect my already-flipped insect from a path or a bolt. Further you also neglect to mention the fact that shoal is easily hardcast-able especially with 20 lands. Mid-game it's a hard cancel against shadow
Here's what I'll be trying out over the next few days. I'm working on the idea that GDS is a bit slower than DSJ, and using Thing in the Ice similar to Tarmagoyf. He starts off a bit weaker (looking at a 0/4 compared to a 3/4 on turn 2), but should come online about the same time (turn 3-4)and his flip effect is nice enough, especially if you have something like TBR in hand. The Clockspinning and Hexmage might be overkill, but we'll see how it plays out in testing. Theoretically, Hexmage is solid as a 2/1 first strike. I felt like Wraiths burned me out too fast, so I dropped them. It's an experiment, we'll see how it plays out.
Clockspinning also does work against Lotus Bloom. I think you just broke the format.
Still secretly testing Leyline of the Voids to break the Shadows and the Dredge matchups (as well as Living End and random nonsense). Realize the lack of synergy with Snapcaster ...
Apologize if I'm missing something but wouldn't your graveyard still be accessible to Snapcaster with a Leyline on your side only?

Also note that Stony Silence shuts off EE which is far more effective against Humans than just shutting off their Vial

I don't know. Thoughts?
It's definitely inconvenient, but you are only using it to stop key plays or protect your flier. Also Chart helps offset the disadvantage.
Also nice report!

Draw Card 1:
1. Put Card 2 on Bottom
2. Keep Card 2 on Top
