    Quote from LOLwut
I have yet to play in a single FNM because of this.

Why would Wizards put it on a Friday? Why not Saturday midday or Sunday like normal card games....

Because it would sound silly if they put it any other time.

Me: "I'm going to Friday Night Magic!"
Other Person: "But its a Sunday..."
Me: "Yeah, isn't it a silly name for an event not on Friday?"

2HG, Team Trios..everything sanctioned goes into total rating and your total, your opponents total and the k-lvl is used to determin how many points you win/lose every game...

2 Headed isn't counted in total rating

it only counts 2 player matches

    Quote from Ask Wizards »

Imagine that every two-player match of sanctioned Magic you ever played were the same format and you will get the idea.
The new DCI-Total Rating is an Elo Rating just like Constructed, Limited, Eternal, or Team ratings. It will be calculated using the same formulas. The difference is that instead of just using your Limited (or Constructed, Eternal, or other) format matches, it will use all your matches.
The individual formats that will make up the DCI-total rating are Standard, Extended, Block Constructed, Vintage, Legacy, Sealed Deck, Draft, Three-Person Team (Constructed and Limited), Two-Person Team (Constructed and Limited).
Two-Headed Giant (and any other multiplayer formats) will not be included.

So Team formats are in but multi-head or something like grand melee (if they ever decided to give that a rating) would not count.

    Yes.

...but, I don't think you're asking the right question. There is no law that I am aware of that would prevent a private business from holding an invitation-only event. However, if it was a store-organized event, it could not be sanctioned by the DCI. (as you're arbitrarily telling people that they cannot play in an advertised event, and a local store event isn't advertised as being invitation-only from the DCI's point of view)

There are exceptions (City Champs finals come to mind), but those exceptions are for events organized through the DCI directly and just held at the store.

yeah, that's what I meant, can you sanction it

Even if not it might be fun to try it once, it might get more people in for more events in a week.

Can a local store run an invitation only event?

I'd think not, but I thought I'd ask.

The store where I work/play does weekly Standard (Thursday), Draft (Friday), and Extended (Saturday) (Notice the pattern?) and I thought that it'd be funny if we did a top 8 based on performance in our 3 events like Worlds.

Idk, something that just came out of my sickness induced insanity...

    How does one interpret these?

    1 Australia 111 vs. Japan
2 South Korea 210 vs. Colombia
    3 Ukraine 210 vs. Estonia
4 Mexico 120 vs. United States
    5 Austria 300 vs.Canada

If I'm not mistaken I'd say that Australia had 1 Win, 1 Loss, and 1 Tie vs. Japan.

SK had 2 wins and 1 loss vs. Colobmia

    Ukraine went 2-1 vs. Estonia

    etc.

The First number is wins, the second losses and the 3rd ties out of the three matches that they played (Standard, Extended and Legacy)

I think Painter's Servant and Grindstone fits that criteria... if that's what you're looking for.

    Here's your combo.

I don't think they print a card like Cathartic Adept if there was a way to mill infinitely that easily.

In Extended you could use Reveillark/Body Double/Gargodon or Mirror Entity combo with that guy to infinite mill, although idk why you would when you could use Venser or Aven Riftwatcher or something, y'know good

    I've heard WoW is similar

and I agree that Spoils is really similar (outside of the awesome improvements that Magic could never do)

EDIT: The Spoils was also invented by Magic players, so yeah...

Like someone said before New York, New Jersey and Philly have really high turnouts with the NJ one getting the largest (at least that was true for the last season)

In fact Edison, NJ had 2 and 3 in terms of attendance according to the list on Magic's offical site. (1 was day 2 PTQ at PT Hollywood)

In New Jersey there were 121 people. I'm not sure how many packs the top 8 got, but 9th through 16th got a "draft set" which I'm guessing is just three boosters. :'(

Yes, 3 boosters is a draft set

Everyone in the top 8 got that Predator Dragon mat with the Champs logo on it in addition to packs broken down thusly.

5th-8th got 9 Boosters (This is where I landed Smile )
    3rd-4th got 18 Boosters
    2nd got 1 Box
1st got a Box + free entry to Gray Matter Events + Plaque

    Odious Trow costs B/G mana

So I'd play that over maybe Wall of Wood considering your strategy. Its also a good blocker because you can regen it.

  • posted a message on Zombies!

I was bored this morning so I threw a list together for a Zombie deck, not much to say other than mana fixing in the set is too dumb not to take advantage of even in a deck that for all intents and purposes is mono-black but has a really large, green, problem and yes, I'm packing Flame Jav just for that one creature

I was thinking about Cruel Edict or Gravepact instead of having to pack a whole other color but the problem is that being green Colossus is usually on the board with more than one other creature.

Gravepact does work nicely with Nantuko Husk and Dregscape Zombie to kill a couple of creatures at a time but I'm not sure its worth it.

    So, any advice?
