Sweet thanks. While I don't like the story of current magic overall, I do like the lore of almost every plane so I plan on running an mtg tabletop game. I thought about using the planar chaos die to decide if they successfully walk where they wanna go, but I might make it a skill so the players have some say so on how good they are.

The second question is a bummer, but gives me a little wiggle room to handwave what I need...even though none of my players know the lore so it wouldn't matter anyway.

So I haven't paid any attention to the lore in forever, and I no nothing of how the Spark got changed other than making planeswalkers weak enough to be made into cards to make money, so I have a couple of questions.

    1. Do planeswalkers get better at walking or is it more related to if you know the plane you are walking to.
    2. Can they still carry people with them? I know Old walkers were able to carry people from place to place with them.

Ah, I thought it still counted against the 99, so that makes sense.

I hate to say it, but it would never work and you would be better off just running your own local group with house rules. The only thing that gives the RC any amount of authority is that when the format was young, they took up the mantel and everyone was fine with it....then it just became tradition.

On a side note, why is everyone so upset with the walking dead thing? Yeah it is dumb that wizards did it and made them black border, but getting upset that the RC didn’t ban legal black border cards is one of the silliest things I have seen the commander community get upset over and I remember people wanting Concentrated Sphinx banned.

So I sold out of magic to get into warhammer around 2017, and I am now building a couple of EDH decks to play with a couple of friends and I have to ask.....why the hell is the blue/red otter banned?

EDH has followed the same track as an indie game that gets picked up by a popular YouTube/Streamer. EDH was popular before the original precondition were released, and from the way it was trending back in the day, it would probably still be the most popular casual format today without wizards involvement.

No matter how you feel about it, the RC gets credit for its original success for bringing it to the masses and giving everyone a foundation to build their groups and giving everyone a common language to play even if they have never played together before. Wizards, however, made EDH Accessible with the precons. I know people who would have never made the effort to build a deck if they didn’t have one to upgrade. Without Wizards involvement, EDH would not have got as fast, but it definitely would have steadily got more popular on its own.

To answer OP’s question. Sheldon specifically has always been narrow minded, made RC decisions based on his small playgroup and his Armada games league was one of the most draconian rulesets to to use.
