@Serberus_08: It... should be in there. I definitely own one for the express purpose of putting it in, I must have not got round to it. The other three are also possibles, might cut Oathkeeper for Blackblade.
@darrenhabib: I just go past Hope of Ghirapur when generating the commander. The Myojin is the ultimate in 'work around the RNG of the concept'. Hikari is in there because there aren't all that many cheap legendary white flyers. In this context, 5 is cheap because most of them are 8 mana Angels.
So I'm very slowly doing the 32 deck challenge, and a few years ago decided to see what the options were for mono-white. Every legend basically felt like it wanted me to make some kind of white weenie deck and that the cards in the deck would work pretty much regardless of who was at the helm, which left me a bit down about the whole thing. Then my brain provided the following idea: 'If the general doesn't matter, make the deck out of all the generals!'. So I ran it past a few people to check if it was an unworkable idea or not, then spent several hours poring over the list on Gatherer. At the start of each game, I'll shuffle up and then reveal cards until I hit an eligible Commander, then shuffle for the actual game.
The non-legendary stuff basically has to feel like a legend would cast it, hence it being mostly wraths and powerful spot removal. The Retainers are both on-theme and I had one I otherwise wasn't going to use, so in it went. I'll probably be swapping the Norn's Annex for Parhelion II once I get my hands on one.
The usual route to victory is attacking people with a non-specific mass of stuff. Sometimes you voltron, sometimes you get lucky and you commander is decent enough to get in for commander damage, but usually you just lob the army at someones face.
Hmm, not one I'd considered but it's worth keeping an eye out for. After all, if it turns out to not work I'm sure I'll find another use for it!
Made a couple of changes, including a Lightning Greaves since if Lathliss dies a couple of times she gets a bit prohibitively expensive, and the haste is always nice.
I'm gonna respond to your posts in order, but I'm not gonna quote the whole thing.
@joeyb11223: First off, thanks for the in-depth response! I can't really argue with the 'cut bad dragons, play better dragons quicker' approach you've advocated, and most of the suggested cuts are stuff that, on reflection, I'd probably have arrived at after a few more games. I'll likely keep Dragonlord's Servant though. Also Possibility Storm, as not only is it a pet card but there's quite a few combo decks in my meta that it's been really useful against. My initial reluctance to use wheel effects was essentially that if I'm having trouble casting the current hand of 6-drops, then a new hand of 6-drops won't be better. This should probably have been my first clue that I should do something about that, but I make no claims to being any good at this!
@Singe: I won't lie, all the cards you're suggesting are ones I'd either forgotten about or didn't know about. Magic's been on the back-burner for me most of the past year as I've not had much time to play due to work. I'll definitely be looking into the Portal, Horn and Incubator. Thanks for taking the time!
@Ertai Planeswalker: Warstorm Surge seems like a solid shout for non-combat damage, certainly more impactful than Akoum Hellkite and Spawn of Thraxes. Cheers for the suggestion!
Right then, time to go through the box of stuff and see what, if anything, I can swap out.
Right, so. You ever have an idea for a deck that sticks in your head and no matter how stupid, you have to build it? This is mine. The basic goal: as many alternate wincons in the same deck as possible, with all of them being a possible route to victory. Currently I'm failing at that, there's only 19 creatures so Mortal Combat can never win. I must have cut something by accident. I haven't updated it in a little while which is why Liliana's Contract and Simic Ascendancy aren't in there, I'm planning to cut a couple of the coinflip cards to add them along with Arcane Adaptation so the Contract can win. I'll have to find another couple of creatures to run. I'll probably find room for Jace, Wielder of Mysteries since he can win without support, unlike Laboratory Maniac. Of course, any card is carefully scrutinised to see if it helps multiple wincons - this pile of utter jank needs all the help it can get. I'm just thankful they haven't done an 'if you control X Planeswalkers' one yet.
I picked Ramos as the commander because he actually synergises with several of the wincons and isn't a Sliver. I considered Reaper King but the extra mana generation and Mayael's Aria synergy tipped me over to Ramos. Also he's a dragon.
My best win so far was ulting Ral Zarek for three extra turns then winning with Maze's End on the final extra turn. I've also pulled off Revel in Riches, Biovisionary and Mechanized Production at various points.
Hi all, and welcome to my Lathliss deck! I decided to build this deck because I think dragons are awesome, but I also needed a budget deck as I can't afford all the fun toys for Jund. Also, Karrthus is kinda passe. The playstyle is fairly direct - throw dragons at the table as fast as possible and then punt the enemy in the face for as much damage as you can. You don't tend to win with Commander damage very often. There's a little bit of disruption in there and a few X-spells if for whatever reason the dragons can't get through to someone.
Currently on the possible cuts pile are Coat of Arms and Shared Animosity, more so the Coat of Arms. It has a tendency to buff other peoples boards and/or scare other players because my guys are suddenly huge. The likely replacement is Sarkhan the Masterless once I get my hands on one, so I can swing with less fear of someone coming into me while everything's tapped.
Questions, comments and so forth gratefully received! Amusing fact: according to the database, this is the first Lathliss deck on here, so I'm either blazing new trails or nobody else can be bothered to play a deck this simple!
Sweet, I've created a tappedout account, turns out you can copy paste a deck across from there into deck tags here and it'll do it fine. Once I get some free time I'll get to sorting my lists out. Cheers guys!
Sadly I can't really comment on the current deck, the combo win isn't really my style. I do enjoy the fact that if the combo win is looking dicey you can just Progenitus someone in the face though, that's much more my style.
I'd love to get in on this, it seems like a really cool idea. However, I don't have any decklists posted yet. Is there a quick way to put a list together elsewhere or is it gonna be a case of laboriously typing each one up?
