I agree the VIP boosters are stupid expensive, as in the product has become lame.
But the regular boosters seem packed full of value for $12-14 - that's not much more than I paid per pack for a box of Ultimate Masters and that was one of the most fun boxes I ever opened - and these have double the foil/rare slots.
For $16+ bucks per booster the set is going to have to be filled to the brim with value else there will be many packs opened that have $5 in it. I'm alright blowing $4 to get a $1 rare, but when you quadruple+ the price it'll feel far worse to open $4 worth of cards.
Well, it's hard to say with only 5 cards shown so far. Right now packs are about $13-14 (at least at my local game store and when I looked on Amazon just now). But the 5 cards we have seen all have much higher value than $14 - ranging from $18 (Atraxa) to the $40-70 range and higher (Mana Vault) so unless they already showed us the top 5 cards in the set (possible, I suppose, but that seems unlikely) I still disagree with the assessment I was quoting - that you said the product was "Awful" - unless you dislike Masters sets in general. They are all like this, though the price has been creeping up a few bucks per booster each time a new set comes out, which is bit annoying. But you will always open packs and get a bad feel moment or two, that's how gambling works. If you want the cards you want, buy them as singles. it's not an "awful" product, at least in my opinion so far.
Without even seeing the spoilers, I'd feel this set will probably be something I would get excited about under more traditional circumstances.
Honestly even if we had less products this year and this set hit it out of the park I'm probably going to say this set was awful strictly because of its price and the VIP boosters. There's no reason for either of them.

I thought this was supposed to be a huge announcement. Am I missing something?
I believe the original tweet was just to announce the next time we would get an updated list, and then others just assumed it was going to be a huge deal for whatever reason.
WOW. That's impressive. I like that better than previous equipment that gives trample/lifelink, mostly since it's a 1-drop and can remove hexproof. Good grief, what a power house.
He seems amazing to me, but I am unsure about his protection. Is he then always immune to CMC costs of 1, 5, 6, and higher? If so he seems like a freaking powerhouse.
Use it with the artifact that let's you end your turn to avoid the end step, you can use it every turn! That's one advantage of it being an enchantment instead of a sorc.
So if this has to be cast immediately, the chosen card by your opponent would have to be an instant to get any use out of it, no? Or does it ignore timing restrictions?
10 slots are 2-per-monocolor cards that are ‘uncommons’ or ‘commons’ (obv equally represented in this set, But cards that were uncommon or common in the set they’re being reprinted-from). Each slot is a unique print sheet, so you’ll get one card from White Sheet 1, one card from White Sheet 2, one from Blue Sheet 1, and so on.
One sheet is just like above but for multicolored cards, and one sheet is just like above but for artifacts-or-lands.
One slot is rares-and-mythics-from-M15-and-later, of any color(s) or lack thereof. Again the difference between rare and mythic here is purely ornamental, as each card is actually equally mythic (1 in 121) whether its set symbol is gold or red.
One slot is specifically cards pre-M15. These could be cards showing any rarity, but I expect these will be basically another ‘notable cards’ slot, where when it isn’t an actual rare it’s a ‘good’ common or uncommon from long ago (demonic tutor, lotus petal, Rhystic study, etc). The non-noteworthy old sub-rares would have been on the first 12 sheets.
And the last slot at retail is the foil that we don’t know anything about yet but I expect it to also be aimed at being a ‘good card’ (either some value or draft utility).
I expect most of the value, and most of the draft bombs, to be in those last three slots. The first 12 slots will likely be draft deck decents but constructed collection bulk.
Got a source for this? I've seen some hints here and there but nothing concrete from WotC yet.
(Bottom of the article, under Mystery Recap, they cover in wonderful detail each slot in the car pack. It's really impressive, in my opinion. Going to be an expensive booster, is my biggest concern - which will be counter to trying to draft it, I worry.)
I just recently played with Mind Unbound in the new Commander 2019 flashback deck and it was incredibly strong. Having it be potentially cheaper while also giving no max hand is a crazy huge advantage, and this is a power house card in EDH, I feel like.

To be fair, the video seemed mostly just talking about the cards and their significance, rather than presenting them as big new reprints/news.
