What is the relation between Kaervek and Phyrexia?

Phyrexian Vault references him, but I can't find anything beyond that.

I know Liliana Vess is from Benalia, but I can find very little on the area that her family had their estate in.
Also, wasn't it the case that she was from Urborg before? With M21 we got a small glimpse but I'm working on a project to do with her ancestral home so I'd like to make sure I'm getting nothing wrong.

I have seen this place's wiki on it, but is that all there is? Plus there's very little on the circumstances of her early life other than the events that happened surrounding Josu.

He's here boys and girls. The ultimate big bad himself, in human form. Finally, we have pretty much every major character from MtG lore in black-border. We are lacking a few side characters like Gix, but honestly, this set delivered big time lore-wise.

And boy, he's good. Costless sacrifice engine that kills creatures, draws cards and has a very relevant protection clause, all for a measly lifepoint? Sweet baby Jesus that is strong. Probably the best Aristocrat enabler ever made, and wouldn't be surprised at all to see him hitting Constructed. The proliferation is just a nice bonus, and I honestly think he might be even stronger than Urza when it comes down for Modern applications (but Urza is still much stronger in Commander).

sorry thats incorrect theres still a few missing

    gix
    belbe
    gaea
    leshrac
    jared

and theres a few other well known phyrexians as well

Those aren't major characters. Gix is probably the most important one in your list, and he's still a "man behind the man" character that manipulated Mishra but accomplished pretty much nothing and had an uncertain fate in the end. If we're listing side characters, the list is far bigger and includes far more important characters (Kerrick, Taysir, Ratepe, aforementioned Guff/Bo Levar), but I'm talking about major characters here, aka. main protagonists and antagonists.

    Gaea smaller than Ratepe? Heh.

Any thoughts about the older male planeswalker with turquoise eyes and a carefully trimmed white beard? Gideon seems to know him...

Who is this planeswalker? Any ideas, I can only think of Urza.

Doesn't need to be anyone we know. I have a feeling it'll be a thing later, whenever that man is introduced.

    Question of my own:

Was Angrath in service with Bolas?

So am I understanding this correctly that there is no formal reconciliation between liliana and the gatewatch? :/

You understand correctly. If I *remember* correctly, Jace speaks into her mind and tells her to leave, after Bolas is beat, and she takes off.

    ---

This week's story was quite literally a waste of time. It provided no additional background. Nothing substantively new. Just a total waste of time. Can't wrap my head around it.

Funny, that's how I felt about the entire set. Nothing of consequence happened to anybody but Bolas, and he's still an Elder Dragon so he's liable to find a way out. After all, Elder Dragons, even without sparks, are still some of the most powerful creatures in the multiverse.

Keyword actions are verbs - so if each player taps or sacrifices or discards, each player also scries.

That's fair, but how would that be parsed? Scries 1?

So recently I ran into an example of some odd wording issues.

You know how things like Scry or Surveil only apply to you?

Eyes Everywhere is a prime example.
But what if I wanted to make it apply to all players? How would I word it?
Each player scries? Each player scries 1? I didn't do it because it sounds absolutely stupid, but that's how it would probably end up.

    Any ideas?

    Is that Gideon?

Yep. Looks like he gets smacked into oblivion.

Is this finally a death in the gatewatch? Of course, with Return to Theros on the horizon, it's not unlikely they will get Elspeth back, you know, to replace Deadeon.

Also, I'm glad Bolas doesn't die. They'd be stupid to kill such a great villain off...even if they made him a terrible villain by virtue of terrible writing.

Remember that Bolas is extracting fundamentally different sparks than Yawgmoth.

If the spark extraction is a property of the Elderspell, and the Elderspell was discovered by Bolas within the annals of ancient forgotten Dominarian history, then couldn't we deduce that it was possible to extract these sparks back before the Mending?

We could, but who says that Yawgmoth had access to these? Even if it is ancient knowledge, it is possible that it's not quite as ancient as Phyrexia ancient.

I don't want to waste my time on a story with a downer ending where the good guys I've been rooting for end up losing. And I flat out reject stories that confuse "realism" with "pessimism", where the downer ending is supposed to represent some fatalistic philosophy about life.

So what you are telling me, is you are not a fan of Warhammer 40K? :p

I'm fine with the Walkers winning, I did not REALLY expect otherwise, but I wanted a cost to be paid, and a high one at that.

This. If nobody on the gatewatch dies, then I'll know this was all just a big bucket of nonsense. If Bolas dies, I'll be very sad and I think wizards knows this so they might just return him to Sensei Ryu state for a while, but if none of the main characters get touched in any way, it'll be a waste. You simply cannot walk through the heat of the multiverse's conflicts and get away unscathed.

I like to imagine that they're just celebrating the toppling of the statue while the real Bolas is bewildered at these idiots but relatively ok and still gathering sparks for the elder spell.

That sort of is the case. Look at Topple the Statue.

Well, now at least they can say that there were consequences as one planeswalker is confirmed to be dead.
